Laugh Alert: Hostess Union Workers Hope Buyer Will Rehire Them

Last week Hostess union workers voted to strike and the company closed.
Now they’re having second thoughts.

Hostess union workers hope a buyer will take over company and rehire them.

When pigs fly.
Biz Journals reported:

Former employees of Hostess Brands Inc. are now hoping that a buyer will save pieces of the liquidating company and put them back to work.

Hostess set a 5 p.m. Nov. 15 deadline for workers involved in a union-organized strike to return to work. The company warned that if the ongoing labor strike continued it would force the company into liquidation, and it wasn’t bluffing — having announced plans to liquidate and lay off 18,000 employees.

But now those that are out of work, including nearly 200 in Jacksonville, are hoping that someone will buy the popular Hostess products and reproduce them, the Wall Street Journal reports.

Frank Hurt, president of the Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco Workers and Grain Millers union, told the WSJ he was comforted by the rush of consumers to purchase Twinkies and other products for fear the popular brands will go away.

“People are going crazy because they think they’re not going to be able to get any Twinkies or Ho Hos or Wonder Bread,” he told the WSJ. “They’ll be produced somewhere, some time and by our members.”

Or, maybe not.

More… Democrats are blaming corporate greed and mismanagement for the company’s demise.

These people are clueless…When another company or person buys assets THEY ARE NO LONGER BOUND by the previous owners contracts…God these people are just UNION DUMB!! Any new buyer will not touch the Union and will touch anything to do with them. They will buy assets in states the are Right To Work and hire NON-UNION PERSONNEL and they are not stupid enought to hire former Union Thugs that if hired will pull the same BS.

Lefties have no clue how to run a business or the cost associated…most people do not…they show up for work and think just about themselves…Never aware of the ENDLESS REGULATIONS, TAXES, EXPENSES, COSTS and more….they just DEMAND this and that but never put their OWN MONEY into building anything. Start a business and then get a clue!

These people are facing Reality…NO JOBS….but but but Obama the Savior was going to make all PERFECT under his Massive Gov’t Regime….Welcome Hostess Losers to the real America under the Obama Misery….there are no jobs coming for you!

  • Bob

Those union employees that allowed this union to destroy their jobs by greed and arrogance got what they deserve.
As we hear some of the demands of the union, it is no wonder that Hostess went belly up. The union actually forced Hostess to only allow drivers to carry one product on their trucks and routes.
Imagine how efficient it would be to send one truck with all of the Hostess products. That is why unions are the most destructive force to American businesses today.

  • Grandma Perkins

I’ll give you my Twinkie when you pry it from my cold, dead hands.

  • pink tie Republican

Hostess got “Bained”. The management made out with millions, and larded the company with so much debt it had to fail, after they took their cut.

  • retired militaryq

If I bought the pieces of the company I would put want ads in the paper.
They would say “If you are part of a union, thinking about forming a union, or want to be part of a union dont bother applying. These are nonunion jobs and if workers unionize we will close the plant down”

  • Payne

It seems as though Mr. Hurt has it all figured out.

If those workers are really lucky the Fed government will take over because profit is never a need and they’ll be more than able to take care of all the union demands, just as USPS/Amtrack workers. Don’t ask the non-union workers of GM.

  • paul52

This same goonion thug, Hurt, bragged the other day about how his bunch deliberately killed Hostess. Death to the goonions!

  • westsun

People like the product…that will make someone CLEVER think about the buying the Recipes and Brands…NOT THE UNION WORKERS…Union people will never learn…they destroy companies because they are the MOST UNPRODUCTIVE people on the planet and all they care about is Seniority and Break Time…the Union Steward…What the Contract says and on and on and on….never about what is best for the business and reward based on PERFORMANCE!!

    Great example:

BMW, Mercedes, Honda, Nissan, Toyota and Kia all produce cars in the US….all except Honda have all their plants in the South…and all including Honda are NON-UNION….and guess what their retention rate is over 95 percent….They are growing and adding facilities and workers….BMW doubled the size in Spartanburg SC, Mercedes doubled size in Alabama Plant and the UAW..cannot even get 20 percent of the workers to even agree to have election!! THEY DO NOT WANT THE UAW….and those workers are paid TOP DOLLAR and they advance based on performance….and they are Happy and have bought booms to the industrial south…All new manufacturing and plants are bing built in the South and Southwest and Plains….WHY??? Could it be because they are more business friendly and LESS UNIONS???

Heck Ford, GM and Chrylser had not ADDED ONE NEW NET EMPLOYEE since 1979….yes 1979…..PATHETIC and most of Ford and GM cars are made in Mexico and Canada and them assembled in the US….so dishonest.

Honda, Toyota, Nissan, BMW, Mercedes and Kia employee more US WORKERS IN THE US then the Big Joke Three….and they make more cars in THE US then GM, Ford or Chrysler..

South grows while the Northeast, parts of the Midwest and West Coast are becoming decayed with no grow and more government.

  • ipmala

The unions can go f**k themselves.
That’s why this country is in the shape it’s in now.
Especially…..that piece of s**t leader of the AFL-AIO.
Hostess Brands did what they had to do….and they didn’t cave in to the union scum.
    The bakers union gambled…..and lost.
    Too f**king bad for them.
Just like when Reagan fired all the air traffic controllers who went on strike.
The union members don’t deserve to get their jobs back.

  • It will be restructured under another company. That company may very well be from Mexico, as the largest bakery company in Mexico has already bought into several American name brands.

They’ll start up production in non-union bakeries and use their already established non-union transport system, allowing for a profit. Those union workers who chose union over income are SOL.

    As it should be.

Lessons to be learned all around

  • srdem65

Just think of all the undocumented workers (illegal aliens) who would be happy to take those jobs for much less than the union demanded. Mi casa, si casa or la raza or burrito or something.
We looove the downtrodden, uneducated people of Sou!th America…come on up!

  • westsun

Hey Pink Tie…unloosen your knot and GROW UP…bained….YOU TWIT…during the first bankruptcy the COMPANY would have closed then but those EVIL INVESTORS bought out the Company and keep it going to another 8 years.

Little morons like you think Capital just falls from the air and that Money just comes out in a machine that says FAIRNESS INC…you know what jerk…Go start a company and then come lecture with your Commie Crap.

Your way of life has produced nothing bu misery throughout the world. I get so sick of you left scum. You offer nothing, produce nothing and yet little twerps like you use Apple IPhones IPads, Microsoft products, Starbucks I am sure and everything else in your deluded little world that was BUILT BY SOME COMPANY!!

You have no money to offer just empty words and a Utopia that does not exist. You live in the best country in the world with the highest living standard. GET OUT and go live somewhere else and use YOUR MONEY to create UTOPIAVILLE!!

Companies need to make money and how much is NONE OF YOUR DARN BUSINESS….They owe you nothing…when you work you are paid and make the choice…you do not like it TAKE A HIKE and do it yourself. But people like you have never built, created or employed anyone but your childish little CLASS ENVY and Hating Business because you are a nothing with nothing to offer.

  • Adirondack Patriot

I heard one of the union members from Biddeford, Maine try to explain why the union wanted to strike.

All I can say is, the world needs ditchdiggers too, but ditchdiggers ain’t gonna be CEOs nor should they expect that when a CEO gets an increase that you should too.

    Knotheads. Absolute knotheads.

Here’s the plan. I solves a lot of problems

They buy the brand and start making Twinkies in Mexico. Obama, to satisfy his union buddies, imposes a huge import tariff. The illegals crossing the border then start carrying in a case or two of Twinkies when they cross the border. Once here, they sell the Twinkies and set themselves up in a new life off the welfare rolls.

Yes, the Twinkiee cartels might start shooting across the border but we seem to have a lot a Zingers left over to throw at them.

Former employees of Hostess Brands Inc. are now hoping that a buyer will save pieces of the liquidating company and put them back to work.

If I were a buyer I wouldn’t be inclined to, because if they’re hired on, there is no guarantee whatsoever that they wouldn’t vote to bring the union back in. Additionally, I’d move each facility to a nearby right-to-work state.

  • Anna

@ #7 . . . You have obviously never owned a company. I have and I would have done the very same thing the owners did, which was seing the writing on the wall, I would have taken as much out of the company as possible and given bonuses to upper management. Take what you can get out of the company before the Baker’s union bankrupted it. And that’s what they did. I fought long and hard to keep unions away from my business and I have most of the same employees that I have had for years. They enjoy great benefits and retirement . . . those who left for the union are out of work. Oh well. You try being the entrepreneur with everything you own on the line for the business and come back to me and we’ll talk. Until then, you don’t know s**t.

  • Rachelle

They are apparently too stupid to realize they have made themselves toxic. No employer would want to take a chance on a loon who would rather kill the company and lose his job than concede a little to financial reality.

In this economy some of them many never, ever work again…at least not unless they can remove Hostess from their job history and buy about 100 IQ points somehow.

  • Lyle

Here is what is going to happen ala’ Hostess:

In about 2 days a plan will be announced that the ‘workers’ will buy the plants and the Hostess name and product line from the bankruptcy courts.

The ‘workers’ (actually the union) will then seek government money in the form of loans and grants to make the purchase for pennies on the dollar.

The deal will be made under the protections of the federal courts, and supported by the NLRB, etc.

The actual owners of Hostess now will lose all claims, investors will be ignored, suppliers will be paid off with government money (at a reduced rate) and the Hostess Company will rise again with new owners who have simply stolen the business and paid nothing…just like GM.

It is the future of America. Many other businesses who do not play ball with Obama and the Feds will face the same ‘federalization’ starting with Ford and Boeing.

    It’s an Obama world.

    http://fellowshipofminds.wordpress.com/2012/11/15/why-the-gop-will-not-do-anything-about-vote-fraud/

People think Islam is at war with the U.S.A., but in reality it is not just Islam, but Russia. The U.S.A. is at war with Russia and doesn’t even know it, even though Russia is arming countries in the Middle East who are intent on seeing American obliterated.

The GOP isn’t even legally able to challenge voter fraud, and by the way the Obama appointed Appeal Judge is black. Obama never won the election, and he most definitely is a Russian communist plant.

Now, we understand the significance of the account Tom Fife wrote during the 2008 presidential campaign. Fife, a U.S. government contractor, claims that in 1992 while he was visiting Moscow, a woman with undying allegiance to Soviet Communism (the Soviet Union had recently collapsed, on December 31, 1991) told him that a black man named Barack, born of a white American woman and an African male, was being groomed by communists to be, and would be elected, President of the United States.

Now, we finally understand the cryptic remark made in May 2010, by Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan: “Obama was selected before he was elected.”

“This is a summary of the appeals judge’s ruling, filed on March 8, 2012:

In 1982, the Republican National Committee (“RNC”) and the Democratic National Committee (“DNC”) entered into a consent decree (the “Decree” or “Consent Decree”), which is national in scope, limiting the RNC’s ability to engage or assist in voter fraud prevention unless the RNC obtains the court’s approval in advance. The RNC appeals from a judgment of the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey denying, in part, the RNC’s Motion to Vacate or Modify the Consent Decree. Although the District Court declined to vacate the Decree, it did make modifications to the Decree. The RNC argues that the District Court abused its discretion by modifying the Decree as it did and by declining to vacate the Decree. For the following reasons, we will affirm the District Court’s judgment.

Surprise! The judge who denied the RNC’s appeal to “vacate” the 1982 Consent Decree is an Obama appointee, Judge Joseph Greenaway, Jr., of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit.

Guy Benson of Townhall.com points out that in last Tuesday’s election, Obama only won by 406,348 votes in 4 states:

    Florida: 73,858
    Ohio: 103,481
    Virginia: 115,910
    Colorado: 113,099

Those four states, with a collective margin of 406,348 votes for Obama, add up to 69 electoral votes. Had Romney won 407,000 or so additional votes in the right proportion in those states, he would have 275 electoral votes.

All four states showed Romney ahead in the days leading up to the election. But on November 6, Romney lost all four states by a substantial margin, all of which have precincts that inexplicably went 99% for Obama, had voter registrations that exceeded their population, and had experienced problems with voting machines.”

    pink tie Republican commented:

Idiot, the unions were offered an 8% cut in pay/benefits to remain stable.

The unions refused. Management lost all assets but the receipe for twinkies and

the brand. If you’d educate yourself you’d know this.

Soon many other companies will be leaving USA. especially California.

Unions are a dying dinosaur that has no relevance.

  • Gonzo

It will be interesting to see if someone does buy the parts.. then goes to hire.. and the pay scale will be at the level that the company offered to the ex workers.. hmmmm I also wonder when the union people.. (those who pay the dues) will wake up to see the lavish lifestyle that they support with their “Officers”.. really take a look at it.. makes you sick.. and the union….does not…… manufacture…….anything…..when will they wake up and realize that what the left will leave you, with is nothing….

So these Hostess union ingrates, who are unemployed by choice, hope a buyer will take over and rehire them? Hope?

After throwing away a job that pays $3k to $4k a month for opening bags of flour and dumping it in a mixer? Seriously? That was sarcasm, by the way.

The irony would be if an asset management firm like Bain [Eeeeeew] were to step in and “rehire”/save their jobs!

Hey, right-to-work states are available, Hostess!

  • Comfy

I just read that Hostess will probably be purchased by a Mexican bakery conglomerate … maybe the Union can picket for jobs there.

  • burt

Mexico makes good sense. The Democratic Party subsides sugar. If American companies can use corn surup, they do. If they can’t, they go out of business. In Mexico sugar is not a government owned item with sky high prices. I know people who buy Mexican Coke-a-Cola because they believe Coke made with sugar tastes better.

  • dwdude

too bad for you, time to put the pizza sign on your volt and brag about what kind of mileage you’re getting

  • Economan

Why would a company hire the very people who caused the previous company to go belly up? That’s just insane.

  • Lyle

The simple fact is that the failing of Hostess will be seized on by the Marxists as an opportunity. Never let a crisis go to waste.

Hostess will be bought by the ‘workers’ (Unions) under “protection” from the federal Bandruptcy courts at fire sale prices, pennies on the dollar. All the investors, vendors, and owners will lose everthing, the ‘workers’ will finance the purchase via free government loans and grants. The whole deal will be protected by federal agencies such as the NLRB and DoL.

And et voil’a…another business stolen from its owners and given to others under control of the feds…just like GM. Boeing and Ford, along with all other American businesses will learn the lesson: Comply or Die.

    It’s an Obama world y’all…enjoy.

  • Pete

It makes me sad that these union morons are so incredibly stupid that they STILL don’t get it. I don’t really want to wish suffering on these people, but you just can’t fix stupid. I keep coming across new union rules that the Hostess company owners had to deal with…like bread having to be delivered in a different truck than the pastries…thus requiring more trucks and more drivers…hence more union dues to the thugs in charge of the union.

I mean really…how on earth do you get through to such lazy, stupid, short-sighted people who can’t understand they are killing their own job prospects with these sorts of greedy, selfish untrustworthy working behaviors?

Yeah, sure. Let’s blame the unions for everything and buy into the nonsense being spouted. Many, many union employees accepted lower wages than could be had in corporate America for security and benefits. And after years of sacrificing wages, now they’re being asked to give up the benefits – which was the balance to the lower wages.

So go ahead and play in Corporate America. It’s where I play. Their attitude? Be happy you have a job. Have a safety issue? Concern about not being treated fairly? Go talk to Human Resources – who is employed by your management team.

Get real. Stop reciting the nonsense printed by the right to work idiots and do some research!

  • Huapakechi

Hey “Pink Tie”, what makes you think that the wasteful unon rules imposed on Hostess Bakeries, the rising cost of energy due to “o”boy’s global warming scam, and the looming disaster of obamacare weren’t the primary factors in the decision to seek bankrupcy protection in the courts?

Capitalism had nothing to do with the demise of Hostess Bakeries, other than the realization that the business and regulatory environment is trending towards economic collapse.

  • MichMike

These poor union folks are led by people who are far below average in intelligence OR lying thugs. It can only be one of the two. The entities that buy pieces of Hostess will be buying the rights to the name and potentially, though unlikely, a few of the facilities. The chances any of them that start making these brands again will be hiring these workers, under a union contract, is zero. How come the union and its members don’t buy it in total, putting all their money into a failing business? The “vulture” venture capital people did this and will lose almost all of their money. Indeed, a number of unions have more than enough money to buy Hostess. Where are they?
