Mitt Goes There: Obama Supporters Fail to Take Responsibility For Their Own Lives (Video)

Mitt Romney told donors earlier this year that Obama supporters fail to take responsibility for their own lives.
That sounds about right.

The LA Times reported:

Republican nominee Mitt Romney, speaking to donors at a closed-door fundraiser this year, said that supporters of President Obama failed to take personal responsibility for their lives, relied on government for their needs and paid no income tax.

“There are 47% of the people who will vote for the president no matter what. All right, there are 47% who are with him, who are dependent upon government, who believe that they are victims, who believe the government has a responsibility to care of them, who believe that they are entitled to healthcare, to food, to housing, to you name it,” Romney said in a videotaped speech to donors that was given to the news organization Mother Jones, which posted it online Monday.

“That’s an entitlement,” Romney said. “And the government should give it to them. And they will vote for this president no matter what. … These are people who pay no income tax.”

In the remarks, Romney said he had no hope of swaying those people to his side and would instead focus on unaligned voters.

“[M]y job is not to worry about those people,” Romney said, referring to Obama supporters. “I’ll never convince them they should take personal responsibility and care for their lives.”

How are Democrats going to deny this after putting this woman on the stage at their convention.

For the record… Look for the state-run media to dwell on this for the next two weeks until their next planned attack.

He spoke the truth but it was an error to say he will never get them to take responsibility for their own lives. How can someone running for president write off nearly half the population like that? This is going to hurt him very badly.

  • Gloria Gilson

I heard Mitt’s words are Brian Williams breathlessly intoned the darkness contained in Mitt’s words.

I agree with everything Mitt said. In fact I’d swear the Mitt has been in our house overhearing our daily conversations about all the gimme girls, welfare queens, teenage “mothers” who roam our neighborhoods having just popped out some new minority bastard baby who will enter the welfare rolls in his/her own rights 15-18 years from now.

And the pathology of welfare just replicates itself over and over again. And how can that happen? Because politicians, notably Democrats, are making sure it happens.

  • Beef

I agree with everything Mitt said as well, but he is going to be beaten mercilessly with this statement for the next 65 days, 24 hours/day. He’d better double down and roll with it.

  • Rhoda R

Sarah: Why will it hurt him badly? He is correct – people who have made a career out of dependency will not vote for him. And people who DO pay taxes might want to consider the fact that they are supporting a LARGE dependent population.

  • atticcellar

It will not make any difference.. 0% of these entitled will vote for Romney regaurdless of what he says.. A vote for responsible government is a vote to take away their free stuff.. He needs to concentrate his efforts on the unsustanablity of the nanny/welfare state.. He needs to convince the 3% undecided that their countries and their personal fiancial future is going to be determined by the outcome of this election.. This is the first time I have heard Romney grow a pair..

  • Rainmom

I think he will double down and hold pat…gosh we all hope so! Go Mitt!
    Romney Responds (Via Breitbart)
Via Romney Communications Director Gail Gitcho:

Mitt Romney wants to help all Americans struggling in the Obama economy. As the governor has made clear all year, he is concerned about the growing number of people who are dependent on the federal government, including the record number of people who are on food stamps, nearly one in six Americans in poverty, and the 23 million Americans who are struggling to find work. Mitt Romney’s plan creates 12 million new jobs in four years, grows the economy and moves Americans off of government dependency and into jobs.

  • myohmy

God bless Mitt Romney. There are two class that Obama recognizes his wall street uber rich friends and the free loaders. Obama is creating another type of mob of freeloaders to overwhelm the real producers in this country.

  • Anthony Durnsford

Romney writing off the 47 percent Occupy My Tax Dollar vote is no different than Obama writing off the 47 percent Stay Out of My Wallet vote. The life of the country hinges on whom snags the remaining six percent. The governor WILL be lashed and flayed with this until the election, no doubt about it. Question is, will he do the right thing and own it, or give us the standard, Republican salted slug impersonation?

  • Lady Mondegreen

#3, you are correct. He spoke the truth, but not publicly, so the left is going to say that Mitt is secretly contemptuous of half the population of the country and that he’s showing one face in public and another in private. It is going to look like he’s losing control of his message. The Democrats are going to use his words against him and it’s probably going to work.

  • Ghost

THAT is why Romney needs to make this election about more than simple economics.
While important, the rest of us also know that America’s Future in Totality is at stake (Bill Clinton was correct to steal the question at the DNC! of course, he has the wrong answer)

It would be so much better if this campaign highlighted America’s values going forward and if we will return to a Constitutional Republic as Our Founders established, or continue to emulate the failed Socialist/Secularism of Western Europe.
THEN, with a win, we have a mandate to roll back Big Government, as well as re-establish a Primacy on Judeo-Christian values to combat Marxist/Muslims who are seeking to infiltrate and destroy America.

those of you who are uncomfortable with any emphasis on Judeo-Christian values should recall your American history and how we became the Greatest Nation Ever, as well as reconsidering any emphasis on Secularism- you will never defeat religious fanatics with an atheist-secularist value system- never.

but hey! I could be wrong. what the hell do I know

  • donh

  • Mad Hatter

He’s 100% correct, and everyone knows it. Good for you Mitt, keep telling the truth.

  • Maxwell

#1, Sarah is just another Obama shill trying to make people believe that every little thing about Governor Romney is the death knell for his campaign, while conveniently ignoring the fact that Obama is an abject failure by any metric.

  • Bubba

Truth hurts, but in this case it’s going to hurt Romney. Not the backlash with the help of the water carrying media. No, it hurts because it’s well…true.

And, this is of course the dems master strategy to creating a one party nation. It’s why they are actually running advertisements (blowing 40 million dollars!!!) urging people to sign up for food stamps. It’s why they LOVE the fact that 108 million Americans are on some form of welfare.

And, they’re absolutely blowing loads in their underwear over the notion that 1 in 6 are bonafide “poor” and utterly dependant for basic survival to make ends meet.

The sick truth is, the dems want to increase the poor demo. They ideally would like 50 million more people on the government dole. Because they realize–just like Romney does–that in a country like that, it is absolutely, as sure as the sky is blue, game over for the GOP.

And, it IS game over. Romney writes off 47% of the population and he’s delusional to think he has a chance in hell of getting elected? Is he insane??? And no, he wasn’t talking about 47% of Barry’s base–because it’s a hell of a lot higher than that.

This is why Pelosi dismissively said (almost with a comical “get real”) Romney ISN’T going to be President.

It’s why Romney is getting his ass kicked on A 67% for Barry getting re-elected??? That is massive slam dunk sure thing territory. To give you an idea of how much, I remember buying Bush Futures the Friday before the election in 2004. Those were at 56%.

Nope, Romney knows the score. It’s over. The dems are (have) succeeding in their master plan strategy of creating a one party country.

  • pmalone

You people are crazier than loons, and I’ll bet 47% of you live in the South:

Clowns. Give up the guvment heroin.

  • Cee Bee

I make more money than anyone three people on this board put together, and I plan on voting for President Obama.

Keep defending Romney, by all means.

  • Bill Mitchell

The only mistake Mitt could make here would be to back away from this. He needs to double and triple down and even produce ads showing him saying this.

Don’t puss out on this Mitt. Own it, win it.

  • Bill Mitchell

    Cee Bee,

I promise you don’t make a tenth of what I make and I’m voting for Romney.

  • BridgetGB

Romney vocalized what America is thinking. EBT is a scandal. Sell your EBT card for less than half of what it’s worth and score yourself some heroin. It’s a close election and it will all come down to who gets their voters out. Folks in the swing states need to volunteer at their local GOP HQ and help Get Out The Vote. Walk Precincts. Deliver Lawn Signs. Call Voters. Volunteer to be a Poll Watcher. Register like-minded Americans before the deadline. On Election Day, show up and help get out the vote. Be part of the The Get Out The Vote plan for November 6th. Stop wringing your hands over a soundbite that we know the lousy leftists will blow completely out of proportion and beat these scumbags by working your arse off to help Get Out The Vote. Let’s roll up our sleeves and do this thing.

  • Amash

Think about it – Romney will not lose one vote because of this. The people who don’t contribute to the tax base don’t pay attention to politics, unless it threatens what they get from the government. They will for for Oweblamo or not vote at all.
Read the tweets and comments about stories on line regarding this. We conservatives are thrilled to finally hear Mitt say we we all have been saying all along. He needs to run with this. It’s true. Oweblamo, on the other hand, lost many votes over, “you didn’t build that.” people who own businesses and did build that themselves were angered by the audacity of the statement coming from a person who has gotten everything from the government.

  • spotted reptile

Romney needs to shout this from the rooftops. The 47% won’t vote for him anyway, they’re voting for their govt pay check and have to keep telling themselves how wonderful Obama is in order to justify it.

  • Anthony Durnsford

Cee Bee: “than anyone three people”??? You need to stop sampling the product you’re peddling.

  • John S

Instead of running away from this comment Romney needs to own these statements.

Obama started the everybody has to pay their fair share narrative. So when the media starts to spin this for the next 50 days be prepared with an answer that throws the question back at them. Something to the effect as what is shown below.

When this comes up in the debates, Romney needs to fight back and look Obama straight in the eyes and ask him if really believes everything he has been saying?

Follow that up with the stats added to the question that 47% do not pay income tax and on top of that they also recieve some level of benefit that the other 53% pay for.

Are those 47% paying there fair share? What about the 53% that are paying taxes and picking up the tab for close to half the country are they paying their fair share?

Make sure you note that there is some percentage that may need 100% support from us as a country and the US built safety nets for those people but is it really 47%.

To me and most other Americans including the 53% that pay taxes I think we can say those 53% that are footing 100% of the bill are paying their fair share and covering some percetnage of the 47% who pay 0% taxes and receive money (tax payer money) from the other 53%.

Finally finish up with the president own question with a little twiest “President Obama do your think the 53% are paying there fair share or should they pay more?” And what about the 47% who pay 0% is that fair or should they pay there fair share also?

This answer has to be bold and wildly seen by the american people like during the debates.

Be agreessive and make this work to your advantage. I really believe that most of the population do not understand the real story about taxes and who really pays their fair share.

I just don’t understand republican candidates. you can’t even GIVE these fools a win. romney is becoming mccain before our eyes. Just like Sarah wanted to get out there and fight for it, it sounds like Paul ryan is being reined in.

If the republicans blow this election, the country club idiots can go golf all day. they are done. it will become the TEA PARTY.

the middle east is on fire, our ambassador was gang-banged and drug through the streets, the obama administration goes on television and bold face lies, Obama goes on letterman meets with jzee and beyonce and this is what we fricking get. mitt romney defending himself from a statement that is TRUE at a fundraiser. I wish we had a strong Congress, these fools need to be impeached but the Congress is so weak they’ve become irrevelent.

  • donh

Romney just gave an excellant press confereance not apologizing for one word…..and he even slightly invoked the favorite liberal spin ” taken out of context ” . Very Swift of Romney to pounce and pre-empt what is clearly Obama’s attack du jour . A whole week of media class envy war mongering….. Very pathetic effort at an ” October surprise ” . Still nothing in the way of ideas from Obama. Still a failed record. Still a walking disaster…..Still relying 99% on the dog wistle race bait. ….Keep spreading the jealousy and hate because it soooooths the moral failure of gimme gimme gimme .

  • Indiana

The only way to get out of this mess is to speak TRUTH to power. Wasn’t it Reagan that said “if you quit lying about me…..I’ll quit telling the truth about you.” Darn Dems have been lying for so long….only lazy people fall for the snake oil any more. “Tell me lies….pay me money, I’ll vote for you.”

  • Mad Hatter

I can see some of the children from the Daily Kook site have found their way here.

  • Big Al

I am not concerned about what the dems and the MSM do with this cuz it’s completely predictable. It’s what the nattering nabobs at National Review and Weekly Standard do. I am so tired of their endless hand wringing and whining about Romney. WSJ too for that matter.

  • atticcellar

Cee Bee; Makes lots of money off of Uncle Barry. No doubt collecting mulitple government entitlements or contracts. I, on the other hand, am lower middle class, self employeed.. I would not vote for this foriegn born, communist, muslim plant commie if he were the last candidate on earth..

  • Beef

#25: You are right about this election. If the Republicans cannot beat this pathetic excuse of a President, they are done as a viable politcal party. The Tea Party faction will split off and start over. This unfortunately will result in no strong national opposition for the democrats for some time, and likely the permanent transition of America into a racially balkanized, socialist country where rights come from the government and group privileges supersede individual liberty. It’s that damn important,

  • In a sane world, telling the truth would be a good thing.

In an Obama world, anything even bordering on unpleasant is completely ignored by the press, or spun so thoroughly by the Obama machine that you wouldn’t even recognize it as ‘bad news’.

Who would believe, for example, that with the utter mess Obama has created in the middle east, his ‘foreign policy’ poll numbers are still so much higher than Romney’s? It makes no sense.

All last week, all the press talked about was Romney’s so-called blunder in addressing the situation at the Libyan embassy. Even when it turned out to be correct, the media continued to eviscerate him. No matter what he says, it will be twisted against him. Which begs the question: why on earth would he call a press conference to try and explain his way out of this latest “gaffe”?

And another week will go by without any substantive discussion on the economy. Sigh.

I think Romney needs to fire his campaign manager.

(And NO I’m not an Obama shill, just someone concerned about some of Romney’s campaign decisions. As Ann Coulter said last week, if Romney can’t beat Obama with THIS economy, then the GOP needs to fold up its tent and go home.)

  • jony101

I always knew obama voters had no jobs and relied on government check, but this applys to all democrats.
The romans would have “bread and circuses” for the masses to keep them happy, the democrats have foodstamps and welfare to keep them happy. Eventually the romans ran out of money to pay its soldiers and that didnt turn out to well. Obama is already talking about downsizing the military to pay for all this welfare/obamacare.

  • Bubba

Unlike you, apparently, most other drug dealing scum don’t vote. They’re too busy slinging crack to the Barry 47%. Let’s get real…that’s the only way you’re making 3 times the average man.

How pathetically juvenile. “I’m rich” as he types from his bedroom in his parent’s house.

  • Monkey Wrench

I just don’t understand how a guy who won election as governor of liberal MA and became the Republican nominee for president can be such a terrible politician. How did this happen?

Last week was wasted talking about the Middle East. Romney is NOT going to win this election on foreign policy. Now this week will be wasted defending himself against these statements. Btw, David Corn (a huge leftie) possesses the entire speech and will be releasing additional clips over the next few days. Drip, drip, drip… The media will start pointing out that many of these 47% are retired people that worked hard all their life and paid plenty of taxes. Many of these people work hard, but have a crappy job that pays less than $20k. By the time the media is done, we’ll all be crying big tears for this 47%.

If you think these statements will actually help Romney, check the polls next week.

  • Morgan

Romney worked all his life to earn what he has…Harry Reid is a muti-millionaire who’s been in government ALL his life.

The Millionaires Club in Washington–where insider trading is OK, where people like Pelosi and Reid spend their lives “serving” themselves. What have these people ever done?

I resent them more than I’ll ever resent someone who golfs, vacations, and parties on their own dime like Romney. And Ozero lives it up more than any president ever, because WE pay for it.

  • CAPT Mike

You wingnuts really do live in an alternate universe. Rmoney will do much worse than the pathetic Bob Dole.

Romney is right on track. He is being advised rather nicely. He knows the score and time to keep pounding. Romney has too, because there are Americans out there who haven’t a clue and they are the voters who put this Awful Obama in the our White House. Time to take out the mess he has made for us.

Go, Romney!! Seriously, you have so much to work with here.

  • Pingback: Mitt Goes There: Obama Supporters Fail to Take Responsibility For Their Own Lives (Video)|Politifreak()

  • AuntieMadder

Yep. This will hurt him, all right. He’s done it now. He’s gone and alienated that 47% of which he was speaking…and made CNN as happy as a pig in sh*t.

  • Highlander

Romney told it like it is, and he’s absolutely right about the entitlement class always voting Democrat. These weak-minded people will continue to vote for Democrats as long as the promises of “free everything” keep coming. The Democrats figured that out a long time ago. They have shamelessly exploited our basic human weaknesses and grown the ranks of the dependent, with the intention of outnumbering us and guaranteeing their hold on power.

The bottom line, and the problem we face, is simple … we are approaching the point where over 50% of the American people feed off the government teat. The day we reach that point, freedom, Democracy, our two-party system, and the country as we know it will be finished.

This election is going to be the most important election in American history, because if Democrats maintain control of the purse strings in this country for four more years, the tipping point will almost certainly be crossed. Even if Republicans win big this time around, this fight will be far from over, because based on past history, we will just be delaying the inevitable. Greed, envy, laziness, and the entitlement mentality are destroying this society, and restoring the values and principles that made this country great will be very difficult as long as there are people willing to trade freebies and entitlements for votes.

If we fail, and we cannot re-instill the work ethics, pride, and feelings of self-worth that used to define us as Americans into the majority of the present-day entitlement class, they will continue to grow until they overwhelm us, and we will be faced with three choices …

We can become slaves to them and the corrupt, oppressive government that enables them …

We can attempt to throw off that government and replace it with one that forces people to take responsibility for their lives again…

Or, we can just shrug our shoulders, withdraw our support until they starve, and pick up the pieces when it’s all over …

I have a feeling that eventually, it will come down to the latter …

  • Rich

Um. He lied. He made a false equivalence. There’s no relationship between who pays income tax and who votes for Obama. If it was true, Obama would win by a landslide in Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, South Carolina. Check out the map. Romney was insulting the GOP base.

  • Red

A majority of those 47% who don’t pay taxes live it red states! Where’s your tax returns mitt?

  • Monkey Wrench

    #17 Rich

Unfortunately, the media will spend this week examining who makes up the 47% of Americans who do not pay federal income taxes. Many of these folks, of course, are retired. They worked hard all their life, paid taxes, and now receive Social Security and Medicaid. Many others are hard workers, but they currently have crappy or part-time jobs and make less than $20k. Many have paid taxes in the past and will pay taxes in the future. Many are young and just starting out. They don’t make much today, but intend to make plenty in the future.

The media will certainly point out that many of these people do pay state and local taxes, sales tax, and payroll taxes for Social Security and Medicare.

And then they will start making things up. For example, Romney says it is not his job as president to worry about 47% of Americans. Shouldn’t he be president for ALL Americans and not write off half the country? Of course that is not what Romney said, but that won’t matter.

What a disaster of a campaign. It hasn’t been easy, but Romney has found a way to lose to Obama in one of the worst economic climates in decades! Quite an accomplishment!

  • Objective Analysis

Romney, what you stated was a true statement. Obama and his voters manifest communism: everyone is a ward of the state/govt.

Capitalism is the direct opposite and that is what you represent.

I am an Obama supporter. I take responsibility for my life. And my wife’s. And my two children. I make a very good living. I have never been on welfare. I took student loans to go to college and paid them back on time. I also pay taxes. Because that’s part of the social contract of living in the United States. I travel on roads. I have police and fire protection. I have a military that protects us. I also pay a higher percentage in federal taxes that Romney. Well, at least in the only year and a half he’s willing to show us. Lovely that. Rail against those that don’t earn enough to pay federal taxes, and show only 1 year of yours.

There is nothing wrong with what Mitt Romney said.

If anything, that 47% is too low. It’s really more like 49 or 50% now. Half of the country gets government money. Romney should repeat that at every campaign stop. If you recieve government outlays from goverment programs or government employment, you are the half of the country that are the Takers. The rest of us are the Makers. And the Makers are in full revolt now.

Romney needs to repeat the mantra. We give you food, housing, health care, your cell phones, your salon appointments, your drug money, and you repay us with crime, having more kids out of wedlock, and strikes that put the country at risk.

    Well, no more.

The Makers are coming for you, Takers. And starting January 2013, your number is up.

Mitt was being charitable in his estimate, I believe the nation has already flipped where the takers now outnumber the makers.
    I have a dream.
It will soon be time for an amicable divorce in this nation where the coasts can become the United Socialists States of America and the flyover states can join Texas ,which is the only state that can secede legally to for the United States of America, to become the new United States of Texas.
The new UST can take the old constitution with them since no one is using it anymore. I would strongly suggest that any taker, moocher, whiner and self proclaimed victim be given a free bus ticket to their coast of choice and anyone from the USSA who is a maker, producer and problem solver be welcomed to the new UST with open arms.
Then in 10 to 15 years let’s see which nation is healthier and more prosperous.
Do I really have to put a sarcastic hash mark at the end of this lovely daydream cause I am not being sarcastic here.
