  1. They must think we’re stupid enough to buy this.

  2. The Dems got them again. Way to go establishment GOP!

  3. No, I don’t see how this will be evaded, like “Pay as You Go”, or ignored, like the obligation to pass a budget but then I’m a simp.

  4. What a load of crap! The GOP thinks we are a bunch of fools. Reading between the lines which is always what you have to do with these con men. The balanced budget amendment will not pass as there is no incentive. They can just vote to cut spending — which of course will be nothing but budget trickery and increased taxes. Letting the “Bush tax cuts” expire is a tax increase you spineless idiots.

  5. That last slide is what does this for me. You see the bullet point about how if the Joint commitee can’t come to an agreement then the cuts will be made across the board, with HALF the cuts coming from DEFENSE??

So… We have an aging fleet, that is technologically outdated and needs to be replaced. We scrapped the Joint Strike Fighter and are now relying on old aircraft. We ran out of missiles in Libya (WTF!!!) and now…. if 12 dudes who haven’t managed to agree on anything yet don’t agree on 1.2 TRILLION dollars in Cuts, Defense will get 500+ BILLION taken from their budget — that is not allowed to come from Military Pay. WTF!!!

Of course, no one is talking about how just 603 American soldiers died in Afganistan under 8 years of Bush, but Obama’s Afgan death toll is over 1000. No one is talking about how dangerous Iraq has become since the draw-down. No one is talking about how much money is being spent to defend Muslim Brotherhood affiliated rebels who are now killing each other off in Libya.

But Oh… if those 12 Congress folks can’t agree… will take have the cuts out of Defense.

In the words of Whitney Houston — “Oh HALE TO THE NO!!!”

I do not want this to pass. At all.

  6. The Democrats got exactly what they wanted, they always do, and they get what they want because the Republican leadership is so freaking nauseatingly PREDICTABLE.

  7. A possibility that just occurred to me. What if the liberal Democrats in the House don’t go along with this? What if this goes down in the House? President Obama says “we’re out of time”. Invokes 14th Amendment in order to “save the nation from catastrophe”. He gets to raise the debt ceiling and the rest of this is moot. He gets to claim he has saved the nation from those hostage taking right wing extremists (see NYT). He gets his money to take him past the election. He energizes his base.

It’s quite possible that the above could happen and Obama come out smelling like a rose.

  8. In a few hours the deal will be dissected by Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh. Can’t wait until they set this on fire.

  9. A joint committee to decide on future cuts? The appointments of whom is yet to be decided? All you need is one obama baby who is obstinate and there is no agreement so they will cut defense?

Defense cuts of 500b, but military pay is exempt. Military pay will go down by default as more men will be vulnerable without support.

Not good enough, kill it in the house. Send back the CC&B.

  10. The deficit spending will continue and they will keep raising the debt limit. How “serious” is this as a solution?

  11. Nice slides. Too bad the words on them are the same old pablum we’ve been fed for decades.

This deal means nothing unless we are prepared to continue the fight. This deal is not a victory, but at best an opening salvo. We need to take this fight to the enemy, RINOs and Dems alike, and never give up.

There will never be a victory in this cause of shrinking our bloated government, because the tax-and-spenders will always be pushing their agenda. This fight must be continuous.

  12. Buy a helmet and flak vest. It’s comming !!!!

  13. we are truly fukked again……nobody seems to really care that we spend way too much only want to line their own pockets…. they ALL must go

  14. “WE HAVE TO PASS IT TO SEE WHAT’S IN IT!” RIGHT???

LAZY, STUPID, COWARDS, IN ON THE DEAL REPUBLICANS, OR ALL OF THEM–YOU CHOOSE!

    Sooooo SCREWED!!!

  15. It’s time to take the gavel away from Boehner before something like this happens again.

  16. It’s time to open a can of whoop ass. Why are American citizens to compliant and soft spoken about the way the government is ruining this country. Other countries protest their government over pay, cost of living, oppression, etc…but we just politely say, “thank you sirs may I have another.”

  17. Meanwhile we are going to give the Marxist in the White House $2.4 trillion to spend before 2013 so that he can get reelected? Bullshoot.

WE CAN STILL KILL THIS BILL !!!!! CALL YOUR REPRESENTATIVES AND SCREAM LOUD AND CLEAR !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  18. Why has no one really made the case that’s been handed to us? (thank you, Moody’s, etc.)

At least one credit rating agency has said that no plan so far is good enough. We need to substantially cut our spending — now, not in 10 yrs. — at least 4 Trillion to show we really mean business. Or a credit downgrade is assured.

Someone should explain how a downgrade will affect all of us. It could be huge – did I hear it said that cities would declare bankruptcies? In any event, one community organizer wouldn’t waste the resulting crisis. And the filthy liar will blame it all on the Republicans.

So, publicly confront the ba$!@^d with the facts and make it crystal clear: his out-of-control spending has imperiled our nation and his appetite for more is too dangerous.

He can’t have the money he wants. If he whines, tell him to take it up with Moody’s.

  19. @5 Lorraine – F-35 has not been scrapped, and the B model (short takeoff/vertical landing) for the Marines is set to exit its two-year probationary period. The rest of your post is spot on, though. This must not pass. And BHO must not be allowed to exercise any supposed 14th Amendment trickery. This has to stop now. Our representatives must represent.

  20. Half of the first 900 billion also comes from Defense. So BHO is already busy cutting 500 billion from Defense, this deal cuts another 400 or so billion from Defense and if they can’t agree on something then Defense loses another 500 billion. Over 60% of the deaths of our soldiers in Afghanistan have occurred since BHO became President. How many more are going to die because of lack of support? Is this what they mean by shared sacrifice?

Also…the outline of the plan on the White House website is a little different than this one. The Repub Leadership keeps saying that they protected the Military because they broadened the definition of Defense to include Homeland Security etc. Of course that’s not in writing. We just need to take their word for it.

As a tea party Hobbit and terrorist, I say no. Hell No. Never Again!

  21. A “Two-Step Approach” takes seven slides to explain? No what the Feds are bloated and top-heavy.

    Here’s my slide presentations:
    Slide 1: My Boot
    Slide 2: The Government’s Ass

  22. @ #12 Falcon — You are right. I remembered the house voting to scrap the F-35. I looked it up after reading your comment and it was a vote to scrap a second engine for the F-35. Regardless, our military is doing all they can with an outdated fleet because of cuts in defense spending under Clinton. He gutted the military, and as a result we had to dramatically increase military spending during the Bush years just to make up for the cuts in the ’90s. Defense is one of the few things allowed for in our Constitution. While it is true that there is waste in Defense that should be addressed, the DOD should not be forced to bear the brunt of cuts. It needs to be things like entitlement programs and Departments not provided for in the Constitution. Dept of Education — I’m looking at you!

  23. Questions for the Speaker and Majority Leader Reid:

Can you name one single US Government agency or department whos budget will be the same or less in actual dollars (not “Baseline Budget dollars”) in the 2012 budget than it was in the 2011 budget? How about the 2013 budget?

Can you name one single US Government project or program that will be eliminated in the 2012 budget? (merged, consolidated, and transferred do not count)

Can you name one Civil Service or Executive Service position in Washington that is being eliminated in the 2012 budget?

    I didn’t think so…

  24. I figured the chances were 99% + (they telegraphed it from the beginning) that the R’s would cave, but the sequestration aspect of this makes it even worse than I anticipated (here’s an idea, let’s give the commies a silver bullet to dismantle the military). Well done Pubbies, well done!

  25. Vote it down!!! The producers and achievers taking it up the tailpipe once again….Our kids and grandkids should get out while there’s still time.

  26. I share the skepticism I’m reading here, but if you take a look at how bad the liberals hate this plan, it must have SOME merit. I’ll be studying it a little closer before I reach my final conclusion, but it’s got to be at least a SMALL step in the right direction …

  27. Failure to remain below these caps triggers automatics across-the-board cuts (“sequestration”). Same mechanism used in 1997 Balanced Budget Agreement.

Yeah, that’s worked so well for us …

  30. Fantastic the best of Chairman Mao and Uncle Joe Stalin! A Great Leap Forward WITH a Ten Year Plan

  31. Libertarians unite! The “conservative” Republicans, as I was until recently, will too often cave. The Tea Party needs be told a Christian theocracy is no more acceptable than an islamic one. That said (loudly), we should acknowledge the role of Christian values in this nation’s history which permits such things as posting the Ten commandmens where state and local governments so select. This is consistent with Libertarian beliefs opposing the mandate of any kind by the federal government on states or municipalities. The platform:
    1. Campaign finance reform: contributions only from individuals, not from any special interest group of any kind, preserving the right of free speech for individuals
    2. Government restructuring: Only six cabinet departments, state, defence, justice and treasury, adding human resources and natural resouces, and watch the fallout when agencies within these six overlap and invade each other’s turf.
    3. Balanced budget (of course); no exceptions. 10% of tax revenues to a rainy day fund.
    4. Phase out all entitlements, refunding over time the contributions to Social security and Medicare
    5. a flat tax on DISPOSABLE income, with a negative income tax on those making less than the minimum wage
    6. No more wars, whether on Al Qaeda or on poverty or on drugs. We’re losing all three.
    7. Reign in the military-industrial complex. Close overseas bases.
    8. No more foreign aid; address overseas poverty and need through voluntary contributions to private charities.
YOU choose two more planks; these are mine. Email them to tbeebe6535@yahoo.com

  32. A better way to approach this is head count reduction in Washington. States are reducing employment because the only way to balance the budget is reduce overhead. Our first shot needs to be a 20% reduction in Federal employment. If the deficiet is still growing, than an automatic 10% additional reduction in headcount occurs.

Until we shrink goverment, we cannot possibly get the spending as a % of GDP back where it belongs.

  33. ++

something is so NOT making sense here, they (the usual Dem & Rep
suspects) CONDEMN the Tea Party, now they CREDIT the Tea Party..

    A Tea Party Triumph

The debt deal is a rare bipartisan victory
for the forces of smaller government.

ergo, what are they setting The Tea Party up for?? to blame, shame, or
are they co opting the TEA PARTY the way the MB did in Egypt?? *sigh*

  34. All this does is kick the debt can further down the road. i.e. congressional business as usual

  35. Hey Boehner, you big phony, get your a** in line and start looking for another job, you’re going to get primaried out in 2012.

What ole Johnny boy didn’t let anyone know is this.

From the AP, August 1st, 2011.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The first phase of a deal to raise the government’s borrowing limit would pose little threat to the economy in the short term because almost none of the spending cuts would occur before 2014.

Discretionary spending, which excludes Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid, would be cut by $21 billion in 2012 and $42 billion in 2013, according to an analysis by the Congressional Budget Office. That’s a small fraction of the nation’s $14 trillion economy.

  36. Bohner’s deal may well be good under the circumstances, taking into account that both the Senate and the President are in the hands of the socialists. It depends on how fragile the economy is after Obama’s and the 2006-Congress’ irresponsible spending. Bohner seems to aim at surviving until 2012 and hope that the GOP wins all three.

Oh, quit being reasonable instead of unreasonably reactive.

  38. Shouldn’t Boehner stop bragging about trading the cow for magic beans? We know you are an idiot, there’s no need to advertise it.
