On Friday night in Washington D.C., Washington Capitals captain Alexander Ovechkin electrified the hockey world by tying Wayne Gretzky’s all-time regular season goals record at 894 goals. FBI Director Kash Patel looked on as the National Hockey League’s guest of honor, alongside ‘The Great One’ Wayne Gretzky.
Patel stood out to a vast international audience Friday, including the millions of Russians and Canadians who tuned in to watch Ovechkin, the greatest Russian hockey player of all time, eclipse the goals record set by Gretzky, the greatest Canadian hockey player of all time.
For decades, top sports pundits held that Gretzky’s all-time goals record was unbreakable: Gretzky is dubbed ‘The Great One’ not only in hockey, but in all sports, Gretzky represents that great one, unsurpassable figure.
And yet, today, Washington Capitals Captain Alexander Ovechkin stands one goal away from breaking Gretzky’s all-time record.
After first scoring a goal less than four minutes into Friday’s home game against the Chicago Blackhawks, Ovechkin sent Capitol One Arena into a total frenzy by later scoring the go-ahead, game-winning goal that tied Gretzky’s record at 894 goals.
Once the entire Washington Capitals team rushed Ovechkin, the lead television camera cut directly to the NHL Commissioner’s suite, featuring Kash Patel as an honored guest alongside the Gretzkys.
The Washington Capitals proceeded to salute their fans mid-game during a berserk, extended standing ovation that showcased Patel multiple times to the game’s international viewership.
Here is Kash Patel’s reaction to this historic moment in sports history:
Patel, himself a longtime, avid hockey player, deserved the honor of viewing hockey’s most significant regular season moment in decades from the league’s most exclusive perch.
After the game, Patel was invited into the Capitals clubhouse, where he posed for photos next to Ovechkin and Gretzky.
Patel posted on X,
Congrats to The Great One Wayne Gretzky and huge props to #8 @ovi8

Patel’s stated mission at the FBI drives increased accountability between the FBI and the American people, in contrast to the decades of fearsome Deep State henchmen ruling the FBI at the American people’s expense.
In addition to this newfound accountability, Patel’s sheer accessibility encapsulates the image of self-governance that our founding fathers conjured long before the inception of our intelligence agencies.
Patel has authored numerous articles, a groundbreaking book, and a documentary.
