Former New York Governor Cuomo and His “Gatekeeper” Melissa DeRosa Sued by State Policewoman for Sexual Assault

A state policewoman is suing former New York Governor Cuomo and his former assistant Melissa DeRosa.  The unnamed policewoman is accusing Cuomo of groping her and claims they ‘violated federal, state and civil laws’.

We’ve written about Cuomo and DeRosa in the past.  They had a very close relationship.  This is the first time we have seen both of them named in a sexual harassment case against Cuomo.

The close relationship was one thing, Cuomo pushing policies that helped DeRosa’s family is another.  According to our report in June 2020, Cuomo was accountable for thousands of nursing home deaths because of his insane directives related to the China coronavirus.  Below is an example.

During this global health emergency, all NHs [nursing homes] must comply with the expedited receipt of residents returning from hospitals to NHs, and No resident shall be denied re-admission or admission to the NH solely based on a confirmed or suspected diagnosis of COVID-19. NHs are prohibited from requiring a hospitalized resident who is determined medically stable to be tested for COVID-19 prior to admission or readmission.

But before this in 2018, Cuomo and his state party committee received close to $2.3m from various hospitals and nursing home industry donors.  DeRosa’s family were top lobbyists in this industry in New York.

So it came as no surprise that New York Governor Cuomo’s Assistant, Melissa DeRosa, tweeted her support for the governor when allegations first surfaced of his illicit actions with women:

This was after DeRosa praised the Governor’s accomplishments with women:

DeRosa hasn’t discussed her family’s relationship with Cuomo’s largest donor in public to our knowledge.  Now Cuomo and DeRosa are being sued for sexual harassment.  The Daily Mail reports:

A New York state trooper who testified that former Gov. Andrew Cuomo sexually harassed her has filed a lawsuit claiming Cuomo and his top aide ‘violated federal, state and civil laws’ in an attempt to cover up the alleged harassment.

The woman, who is named as Trooper 1 in the lawsuit filed Thursday in Manhattan, is seeking damages against Cuomo, his former aide Melissa DeRosa and New York State Police for ‘severe mental anguish and emotional distress.’

The trooper claims Cuomo tried to kiss her, steered conversations toward sex, asked her to help find him a girlfriend and once asked ‘why don’t you wear a dress?’

The suit also claims that DeRosa covered up the then-governor’s behavior by giving misleading statements to a reporter from The Albany Times Union.

When the reporter asked about how the trooper was transferred to the governor’s security detail, DeRosa ‘yelled at the editor of The Times Union and accused him of being sexist for even making the inquiry,’ the suit states.

Cuomo resigned in August, days after an independent probe found he sexually harassed nearly a dozen women and worked to retaliate against one of his accusers.

He has denied intentionally mistreating any of the women but said was stepping down in order to avoid subjecting the state to months of turmoil.

Those accusers included the unnamed state trooper, who was on his security detail and said he allegedly subjected her to sexual remarks and on occasion ran his hand or fingers across her stomach and her back.

We have knowledge that DeRosa was not just called the “mean girl” as was reported by Daily Mail, but she also was referred to as his “gatekeeper” by those within his administration.  DeRosa reported in October last year that she was filing for divorce after being separated for some time from her husband, Mathew Wing, a former Cuomo team member and the son of former District Attorney for the Southern District of New York, Audrey Straus.

Now DeRosa and Cuomo are tied together in a court case regarding sexual harassment.
