A Rules Committee hearing on a bill repealing the Affordable Care Act got heated Monday after Rep. Alcee L. Hastings, D-Fla., called the state of Texas “crazy” and later refused to apologize.
Hastings told Rep. Michael C. Burgess (R-TX):
“I don’t know about in your state, which I think is a crazy state to begin with, and I mean that just as I said it.”
Burgess then demanded an apology. Hastings replied:
“You will wait until hell freezes over, for me to say anything in an apology. I would apologize to you, if I was directing my comments to you. I was commenting about the state that you happened to be a resident in.”
Democrats hate Texas for its capitalistic, liberty-based, pro-American policies of success.
In 1988 Hastings was impeached for bribery and perjury. He was then convicted in 1989 by the United States Senate, becoming the sixth federal judge in the history of the United States to be removed from office by the Senate.
In 2011 Hastings was sued for sexual harassment.
