Obama Successfully Kills Off Another 3,900 Jobs at Texas Power Plant

In January 2008 Barack Obama told the San Francisco Chronicle:

“Under my plan of a cap and trade system electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket. Businesses would have to retrofit their operations. That will cost money. They will pass that cost onto consumers.”

He promised that his plan would cause electricity rates to skyrocket.

He wasn’t kidding.

Barack Obama’s EPA just killed off another 3,900 energy jobs in Texas.
The Examiner reported, via FOX Nation:

Chase Power, the parent company behind the $3 billion Las Brisas coal power plant in Corpus Christi, Texas, announced yesterday that it was cancelling the project.

“Chase Power … has opted to suspend efforts to further permit the facility and is seeking alternative investors as part of a plan of dissolution for the parent company,” Chase CEO Dave Freysinger told the Corpus Christi Caller-Times.

Freysinger made it very clear who was responsible for the projects death. “The (Las Brisas Energy Center) is a victim of EPA’s concerted effort to stifle solid-fuel energy facilities in the U.S., including EPA’s carbon-permitting requirements and EPA’s New Source Performance Standards for new power plants,” he said.

The Las Brisas power plant had been part of a larger Las Brisas Energy Center project planned for Corpus Christi’s Inner Harbor. Economists had projected that in the first 5 years of construction and operation the project would create as 1,300 direct and 2,600 indirect jobs. Now none of those jobs will exist.

Obama’s new EPA regulations will cost the coal industry $180 billion and force electricity rates to skyrocket.

There is no accountability and no oversight.

  • Valerie

Uhh. People should know that the only way the EPA can block these power plants is to claim that carbon dioxide is a pollutant. We learned how to clean out the ash and the sulfuric acid that sometimes shows up in coal decades and decades ago.

    OT: Schadenfreude

#8 dohn, so you know the true meaning of Baal-ZebUB too, Lord of the Flies. LOL Good one.
Wish I was dictator of this nation cause I would make every mmgw advocate live in a tee pee, only ride a bicycle and burn cow chips for cooking and heating. Now that would cut down on some carbon footprints for the short term then everyone would get smart real quick.

This is what America wanted and what America GOT! Every voter saw what happened his first 4 years in the White House – how is this 4 years supposed to be different?

  • Buffalobob

He is keeping a least on of his promises. His plan to destroy the coal industry. I can’t believe the working people who voted for him all have perpetual motion machines to keep their homes warm. Maybe the obama phones are also hand warmers.

Repeat after me, this country sucks, and as an elite f*cking piece of sh*t, I know how to fix it.

The liberal drones are in for a big surprise. The costs of all this nonsense have only begun to be felt. When they start whining and complaining that they can’t afford to drive, or heat/cool their homes, I can guarantee you that I won’t be listening…

Of course there’s no accounting for Rick Perry, but Texas doesn’t have a hair on it’s ass if it doesn’t tell the government to go stick the EPA’s regs up their butts, that to shut down the plant would significantly impact Texas’ economy and there is no place the money could be made up, so according to the Tenth Amendment Texas is not complying to any EPA regulations which would remove any form of electric power production that the state needs for it’s citizen’s. That is what I’ve been telling governor’s in several states now, that they are going to have to stand up against this current government if they plan on surviving this current government. And this corporation needs to take a look down the road if it plans on doing anything for it’s investors. They should be punished somehow for caving to the EPA. I don’t know what could be done but maybe taking their tax cuts by the state of Texas might jar their brains loose so they might be able to see better as to who they owe their allegence to. And it ain’t the Obama Communist regime.

  • Every employee and manager all the way to the top of the food chain in the EPA needs to have a wireless “smart meter” installed in their nether regions, and every time their regulations kills another job, a strong electrical pulse should trigger. Maybe it would get through to their brain since that is where their heads are.

How ’bout texas declaring coal oil nat gas to be apart of its defense,i.e. necessary for the state Militia and open it up again.

to me the low-hanging fruit in our country is not to partake of any cineams, down loads, dvds, cds, venues. all on our own ,no boycott, no leader,
just making an individual decision to not partake of these items that consume scarcer and scarcer
resources. Just on our own we realize the effects of the EPA mandates so we have to do other things with our time and our kids’ time. I bet some phone calls would be made after 6 months of our nose-to-grindstone work.

  • do these EPA regulations reflect the wishes of the majority of the people.

Where is Rick Perry? Is he still trying to remember the DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY? I lived in Texas for 8 years and was truly impressed and inspired by thier peoples free and independant spirit. I can’t wait to move back. But if Rick Perry is not going to try to protect peoples jobs or the business’es they work for I am afraid I will have to wait a little longer. Remember the Alamo!

Texas has had to buy Electricity from Mexico. Years ago, EPA closed a gas station in my town with 3 yr old new tanks NOT LEAKING or causing ANY problems because “STANDARDS” changed at the time they forced the closure. Stuff was on Mortgage, nobody could afford to pay mortgage and new tan ks, also. I was the last gas station in our town.
WHY are State Govts tolerating this? Many states are begging Texas to take a lead in this issue and drive the EPA out.

WHY is Texas Govt dragging their feet and letting Texas suffer for this tripe?

SHAME SHAME SHAME!!!! What benefit are the Feds to a living soul? They should be dismantled.

#15 WillofLa – over half the Texas GOP voters didn’t want Perry, but by the time the Primary and General came around all other candidates self-destructed. – and always on CAMERA. He talks big once in a blue moon, and then poof – nothing.

IF we didn’t have Gregg Abbott and David Barton, and now maybe Ted Cruz, it looks like, I hope…

    Idiot Dewhurst models Ted Kennedy.

Well, I’ll have to admit he didn’t lie about this one. I have a home in Scottsdale AZ and we just got notified that since customers have taken advice on using solar and windmills & CFLs that they are now using less electricity and that has NOW upset APS so they need to charge a fee to make up the difference in less energy being used. You can’t even make this stuff up and more.

    EPA = Employment Prevention Agency

  • Paul in N. AL

Why don’t they just continue with business as usual and just start producing energy? Its not like the EPA can come and physically shut them down? The EPA can make all the rules they want, but they can’t enforce them without coming into states and getting the assistance of locals.

  • Anti-Sasja

What will come to fruition is we’ll buy and use more fuel from the Eagle ford area. An area which technically would put us in competition with OPEC. As such we would be our own best friend and get to a point where the EPA would be “persona non-grata”. We just couldn’t hear them or Sasja through the noise of achievement.
