Obama’s EPA Regulations Will Cost Coal Industry $180 Billion & Cause Electricity Rates to Skyrocket

Worst. President. Ever.
In January 2008 Barack Obama told the San Francisco Chronicle:

“Under my plan of a cap and trade system electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket. Businesses would have to retrofit their operations. That will cost money. They will pass that cost onto consumers.”

He promised that his plan would cause electricity rates to skyrocket.

He wasn’t kidding.
In January the Obama Administration, for the first time ever, blocked an already approved bid to build one of the largest mountaintop removal coal mines in Appalachian history.

And, on Wednesday it was reported that Obama’s energy plans will cause electricity rates to necessarily skyrocket…
Just as he promised.
Via US News and World Reports:

Two new EPA pollution regulations will slam the coal industry so hard that hundreds of thousands of jobs will be lost, and electric rates will skyrocket 11 percent to over 23 percent, according to a new study based on government data.

Overall, the rules aimed at making the air cleaner could cost the coal-fired power plant industry $180 billion, warns a trade group.

“Many of these severe impacts would hit families living in states already facing serious economic challenges,” said Steve Miller, president of the American Coalition for Clean Coal Electricity. “Because of these impacts, EPA should make major changes to the proposed regulations before they are finalized,” he said.

The EPA, however, tells Whispers that the hit the industry will suffer is worth the health benefits.

For the record… For every green job created by the Obama EPA, four jobs are lost in the economy.

  • I guess we’ll be back to burning wood in no time. Hey, trees grow back, so it may be considered renewable, right?

  • regularguy

Every syllable he uttered to the families of the dead miners was perfunctory and otherwise completely disingenuous. He had every intention, and stated so prior to his election, of hammering the coal industry as soon as the politics would allow, counting on the poor memories of the American people about the miners. His fanaticism for leftist destruction of the energy industry and the American economy continues unabated.

  • BillP

and Americans will put him back in office in 2012….

He’s not out to destroy the economy except when he’s out to destroy the economy (e.g., Dodd-Frank; EPA; FCC, etc). This is ridiculous and scary b/c the MSM COVERS for this clown and his crap policies….

Mr. President, “I’m” capping greenhouse gases? How about “Our” elected representatives voting on this?

It’s way past time Obama was impeached.

If the GOP had any balls they would start proceedings just to take up time until we can get his Commie ass out of here.

    I hate that bastard!

  • http://zillablog.marezilla.com Zilla

Sonofabitch! we can barely afford our freaking utilities as it is! Damn that bastard straight to hell! He is deliberately destroying Americans and our cowardly gutless GOP does not an effing thing to stop him. Useless jackasses all. Why will nobody impeach him or hold him accountable for his repeated acts of treason and attacks against the American people? What do we pay them for?

  • Annaleesea

Well like little barry said “energy prices will
neccessarily skyrocket.” Hence the current day market. All of us over 40 know we have our 401k’s in the energy market, He’s killing us…

  • rbosque

Obama knows what he’s doing…he’s purposefully shoving his idiotic, dopey anti-American left-wing agenda. He is screwing with our GNP. Does he not know that we run on Coal and oil? Yet he continues to attack those industries.

And he calls himself an American President? At least the ChiComs leadership is doing all they can to make THEIR nation prosper. Hard to believe.

  • Rick

    See, I’m not a liar.

And why the Rep. Congress doesn’t make a huge to play to defund the EPA is beyond me!
It won’t get anywhere but if they draw attention to this OUT OF CONTROL ADMIN….day after day after day….it’s the push back we’ve been screaming for!

  • Rick

Katy at 14: I think it is a lack of leadership from Boehner. With aggressive leadership there could be a vote everyday in the house to stop these outrages. Instead, silence.

  • ahem

I would look to see him making even more extreme Marxist policy changes over the next few months if he thinks he’s not going to be re-elected. This will probably include measures to undermine any free election. He has to make his mark while he has time, and he has to try to make the changes permanent.

Of course, if he’s re-elected in 2012, it will be much, much worse. America will have ceased to exist.

  • L.E. Liesner

The whole damned government needs to be removed. Just what in the hell are those idiots in congress doing? It is apparent to the most causal observer that they are not doing their jobs. The first step should be defunding all these departments that are make these crazy rules and regulations, step two start acting like congressmen and senators by employing the checks and balances and rein in this out of control executive branch, step three start impeachment proceeding on all activist judges. Every damned one of these people took and oath of office to “support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies foreign and domestic” , if they can’t live up to that oath they are the enemy.

    Rick commented:

Yes. Instead… he goes golfing with the communist who is destroying the country.

  • Rick

katy 18: Boehner golfing with Obama is a huge Boehner mistake. He does not understand that we are at war with Obama, who is attempting to destroy America, and that fraternizing with the enemy is not a virtue. There are millions of not very engaged voters out there who will see pictures of Boehner and Obama golfing together and conclude that there really is not much different between the two parties, a disastrous result for all of us who are attempting to reverse America’s destruction.

  • Kate

And what is Congress going to do about it? Nothing? Great thing to do in a bad recession. We’re screwed again. How long is this nightmare going to last? It’s gotten to the point I’d like to deck anyone who voted for this arrogant socialist. I despise him.

It’s kind of sad to see those posters agreeing the EPA and Obama without really understanding the devastating economic consequences it will do to the country. Wind farms is a documented failure worldwide and solar farms is not worth the cost as well as the space . This Administration as well as the Green supporters could not understand that we need alternative means of power production if we want to replace coal and oil to supply us with energy. Nuclear reactors needs to be built but we know that none will be built due to the fear mongering of the Green, anti-nuke activists and their political fiends in Washington.

Without a reliable source of energy to run this country’s factories, offices, hospitals and farms. Jobs will be lost, food prices and other goods will skyrocket and oh yeah, the people most affected will be the poor, the weak, the sickly and the young. These people wants this country to commit suicide by it’s own hand and I think the American people should be the one to stop them. Either way, it has to begin now.

  • arnonerik

We voted that damn fox into the hen house and now we are wondering about all the missing chickens. Wise up America! The only good Democrat if the one out of office and out of any position where they can do harm. These liars who claim to care so much about the poor, the elderly, and the children will destroy them as well as impoverish the rest of us. Obama and his socialist cronies are destroying the very foundations of this country and they are doing it on purpose. I would not only impeach , I would prosecute for conspiracy, grand theft, dereliction of duty, and treason.

The thing that keeps shocking me is, after how well publicized his statements about crashing energy industries and causing utilities to skyrocket during his campaign before he was ever elected – why are so may GOP/Conservatives, etc still acting so shocked about his activities – keep saying, he doesn’t know what he is doing.

His logic is perfect and flawless considering his stated goals. Why be so stupid ourselves instead of getting serious about stopping him?????????????????????????? Why keep waiting for Election after Election AFTER YET ANOTHER ELECTION????????

    I don’t get it!

  • Westie

Put on your thinking caps, remember these tidbits from the botched 08 election because the 2012 Election is starting to play out very similar to 08! Once again we have the Rat/Rino uber-party versus the silent majority.

Were you not disgusted when the Rat/Rino party nominated both Obama and McCain in the 2008 election, neither an acceptable President? Both candidates were proven liars, both had Soros support, both liars were supporters of open borders, eternal worthless wars against RoP, both supported the Bailouts, both were Globull Warmers, there wasn’t a spit of difference who would be the worst president just like O’Romney today.

However McCain had a brain freeze and selected Sarah Palin as VP. Of course SP was not aware that McCain was nothing but the foil for the Rat/Rino Party, he was picked to loose in this election charade of the one party. But SP brought a real sense of winning and excited Conservative voters by campaigning as McCain would not….by October ’08 McCain/Palin had made up the deficit in polls and appeared to be taking a lead and then we had a ‘spooky’ intervention in the Financial Markets and all the R/R Party apparatchiks were screaming like the world would end.

On CUE, McCain made sure to look the fool by cancelling an upcoming debate and rushing back to DC and did nothing but agree with the R/R party line. Remember that McCain prematurely pulled his campaign out of MI and SP resisted saying she and Tod would keep campaigning in MI? McCain was so dedicated to losing, when Palin was continuing to draw large, excited crowds and directly attacking Obama, McCain made sure to join her on campaign stops and tamp down the enthusiasm….remember him praising Obama, calling Obama a good American at he same time letting his own campaign staff leak crap about SP.

Remember how the R/R Party stink against SP continued after the election…PALIN MUST BE DESTROYED!!! McCain’s crappy campaign staff continued to leak crap on SP, the D-rat media bashing and lawsuits drove her out of office, remember how the R/R party including McCain/Bachmann, etc never spoke in defense of SP after the Tuscon shooting…..

Let’s not let this sham continue, it’s down to survival, WAKE UP, it’s us vs them!

  • big L

if the GOP wanted to they could havevisited the filers of all these law suits aganst Gov Palin.
And convinced these folks to stop or their brains wound be on the table. So to speak.
I don’t know how it is done. But convincing gets across. But no. They did nothing. Just like Murcowski and miller. Wanted their buddy’s daughter in office. and that weird Harry REid and sharon Angle (?) Nevada election where Reid hardly campaigned yet won.

Congress has the power to make laws. Regulations have the same power as laws and as such, CONGRESS has to approve authority to the EPA to REGULATE CO2, which it declined to do.

Obama is executive branch, ADMINISTRATIVE, can’t create law. Even the executive orders are unconstitutional if they have the power of law, IF CONGRESS WERE TO FIGHT.

The SCOTUS does not have the power to create law or regulate. They have the power to decide if the law is CONSTITUTIONAL.

CONGRESS, including the democrats in the senate need to stand up and ASSERT THEIR AUTHORITY.

Hey Boner, are you just planning on extending the debt limit so Obama can continue to fund the destruction of our country? HEY REPUBLICANS IN THE HOUSE, ARE YOU JUST GOING TO SET THERE AND ALLOW THIS TO CONTINUE?

  • http://georgfelis.blogspot.com Georg Felis

You might as well say “180 billion dollar tax increase” because the utilities don’t pay a dime of that, it *all* gets passed right on down the line to the consumer.

How’s that electric car taste now?

  • Questionman

Mark, thanks for proving how deluded you and your racist ilk are! Being black is no reason for impeachment!
    Okay, let’s debunk this crap….

The billionaire Koch Brothers; their giant oil conglomerate, Koch Industries; and their vast network of right-wing political groups, think tanks, and other organizations are rarely out of the news these days, but the oil profit-fueled, multi-pronged assault on clean energy that Koch groups launched this week is particularly notable — and worrisome.

The Please Don’t Blame Oil Companies for High Gas Prices Campaign : This week, AFP announced it was launching a “Running on Empty” tour to try to falsely blame President Obama for high gas prices. The tour will travel to Kansas, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Missouri, Virginia, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. The tour is, of course, funded in part by the profits Koch Industries is making as a result of today’s high oil prices.

In reality, polls show that nine of out 10 Americans blame Wall Street speculators and Big Oil’s greed for the high prices. Even Goldman Sachs and ExxonMobil agree that speculation is to blame for today’s high oil prices.

Unlikely to be mentioned on the tour? How the Kochs built an oil speculation empire that is partially responsible for driving up oil prices right now.

  • Whitehall

I too would love for the House to shutdown EPA etc by cutting funding.

But let’s get real here. A GOP majority in the House can only block the Democratic Senate and White House. The GOP leadership is thinking ahead to 2012. The BIG win will be House, Senate, and White House.

The GOP can paralyze the federal government today but will lose votes in 2012 because of it. The judgment appears to be minimize damage today but don’t jeapodize the big victories in 2012.

These men and women making these judgments are professional politicians. I too wish for clear moral clarity TODAY but politics is the art of the possible.

So hold your fire until you see the whites of their eyes in November 2012!

  • R J

It’s time to start demanding impeachment if for no ther reason than to focus the MSM on this jerk! He is the most lawless, destructive, anti-American, lying, president in our country’s history! The other thing we have to watch out for is his replacement. If we do not get a conservative like Palin, like Bachmann, like Cain, like Santorum or Pawlenty, we are DOOMED! A RINO is not going to turn things around, he’s just going to slow them down a bit. Four years later, we’ll all be bitching about how there is no difference between the two parties. We must not let the establishment republicans or the media pick our candidate. We must stay engaged, watch the debates, and pick the candidate that articulates conservatism the best. Don’t listen to those who say we need to pick the best candidate that can win garbage either. Unless our guy turns out to be a murdering pedophile from Mars or Obama cures cancer, Obama is going to get his ass kicked out of the White House by a landslide. We could run a potted plant against himnright now and win! It is crucial that we get some one who will fight, not just go along like this is all just politics as usuall blah, blah, blah.
