Former “Chocolate City “Mayor Charged With Bribery, Fraud

In January 2006 New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin said, “It’s time, it’s time for us to come together. It’s time for us to rebuild a New Orleans, the one that should be a chocolate New Orleans.”

Well, today it was time for indictments.
The former Mayor of New Orleans (Chocolate City) was indicted today on numerous charges of bribery and fraud.
The Washington Times reported:

Former New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin was indicted Friday on charges that he used his office for personal gain, accepting payoffs, free trips and gratuities from contractors while the city was struggling to recover from the devastation of Hurricane Katrina.

The charges against Nagin are the outgrowth of a City Hall corruption investigation that already has resulted in guilty pleas by two former city officials and two businessmen and a prison sentence for a former city vendor.

The federal indictment accuses Nagin of accepting more than $160,000 in bribes and truckloads of free granite for his family business in exchange for promoting the interests of a local businessman who secured millions of dollars in city contract work after the 2005 hurricane. The businessman, Frank Fradella, pleaded guilty in June to bribery conspiracy and securities-fraud charges and has been cooperating with federal authorities.

Nagin, 56, also is charged with accepting at least $60,000 in payoffs from another businessman, Rodney Williams, for his help in securing city contracts for architectural, engineering and management services work. Williams, who was president of Three Fold Consultants LLC, pleaded guilty Dec. 5 to a conspiracy charge.

He’ll also have the last laugh if Nagin is convicted.

Q: Which leftist-biased, corrupt MSM socialist stooge will be the first to state that the ONLY reason nagin was indicted is because he’s black?

My vote: senile, socialist-tool bob schieffer.

Went to college in NO. NO may be second only to Chicago regarding corruption.

  • paul52

Would love to see ol’ “Chocolate City” Nagin hang for these charges. Another poster boy for the Dim Party!

  • Finncrisp

This is such a shocking development. In Chicago, no reporting is done unless the corruption exceeds 10 million. Then they might investigate and charge someone. They have a very low bar in NO.

    Absolutely shocked!!!

    Maurice “Moon” Landrieu ?
    Ernest Nathan “Dutch” Morial ?
    Sidney Barthelemy ?
    Marc Morial ?
    Mitch Landrieu ?

Oh Yeah… Ray Ray wasn’t a part of a New Orleans Political Machine.

This will all fade quietly away. Ray “School Bus” Nagin is one of Eric “the Red” Holder’s peeps!

  • Rock

Wow really, another corrupt raciest black big city mayor, what a surprise. I’m sure he will find a way to blame Bush, or has he already.

A microcosm of how things are done in DC. LA has been run by Democrats since the day it became a state. These charges could have been filed years ago against just about any politician holding office there.

Let’s not forget that Blanco refused national guard help (urged by Bush 3 times) before the levee’s broke because she was worried about the cost. Let’s also not forget the money they got to improve the levee’s years prior to Katrina from the federal government (more than once).

It’s a cesspool and Democrats are the architects.

  • Economan

Yeah, things have a way of catching up to you. He might want to consider bringing soap-on-a- rope to prison, especially if there are people there that have an axe to grind with Nagin

#20 She wasn’t worried about the cost. She was worried about Bush getting kudos for averting a disaster. A true dim. Sacrifice everything for political gain. Let people be killed so they can stick it to the opposition. The media blamed Bush ad nauseum for failing to be on site quickly and said not a word about dim politicians refusing to let FEMA in. And even then it didn’t take anywhere near as long after Katrina to rebuild as it has Sandy but the media says nothing about that. A different president?

Now, what goes around comes around only this guy is also guilty of not loading up the buses with the stranded before their homes were flooded by Katrina. Knew this guy was incompetent and they allow anyone to be voted into office. White House makes my case.

  • JP Kalishek

sad part is Nagin got in by not being part of the corrupt system that is N.O. (iirc he ran as an independent against the repub with no chance in hades and the establishement Dem candidate and won the run off after the Repub was eliminated) and on his fist day in office set off a major investigation that cause a bunch of arrests (even of his nephew) and the closing of the city safety inspection stations as well as clearing out the taxi commission. A businessman himself he cleared the way for changes at the airport to ease repairs and was so pro business he backed Jindal in the election that went for Blanco (who never forgave him and refused to work with him during Katrina…)

He started as a different kind of mayor for N.O. and then turned into the typical type of mayor for N.O.

  • jorgen

I don´t believe that one of Holder´s people can be a criminal!

  • Lim Lynn

Well, that’s why in Malaysia we had MACC to fight fraud [with the help of Bank Negara Malaysia], coffee money
bribery and corruption. Anwar Ibrahim's bank account had so much money that normal Malaysian didn't know about it. While he says Tun Dr. Mahathir bin Mohamad practice cronyism and despotism he didn't check himself in the mirror how he acted with PKR PAS DAP who didn't manage Penang, Kelantan and Terengganu very well.

  • American Woman

    Let us remember:

Ray Nagin is a Democrat and served as the Democrat Mayor of New Orleans. Progressive is as Progressive does.

  • Lim Lynn
Contractors and vendors looking for work with the city would provide the mayor with vacations, big checks and even free granite for his family business.
