Lib Mouthpiece Bob Costas Lectures America on Gun Control After Belcher Murder-Suicide (Video)

Just what you want from your sport’s announcer.
During halftime of the Sunday Night NFL Game lib Bob Costas lectured America on gun control.
This came after Kansas City Chief’s linebacker Jovan Belcher killed his girlfriend and committed suicide on Saturday.
Via MRC TV:

The Blaze has the transcript:

Writer Jason Whitlock, with whom I do not always agree but today said it so well that we may as well just quote or paraphrase from the end of his article.

Our current gun culture, Whitlock wrote, ensures that more and more domestic disputes will end in the ultimate tragedy, and that more convenience-store confrontations over loud music coming from a car will leave more teenage boys bloodied and dead.’

Handguns do not enhance our safety. They exacerbate our flaws, tempt us to escalate arguments, and bait us into embracing confrontation rather than avoiding it.

In the coming days, Jovan Belcher’s actions and their possible connection to football will be analyzed. Who knows? But here, wrote Jason Whitlock, is what I believe: If Jovan Belcher didn’t possess a gun, he and Kasandra Perkins would both be alive today.

These libs can’t help it.
They have to politicize everything – even a Sunday night football game.

If “O. J.” Simpson hadn’t owned a handgun Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman would be alive today.

Not surprised. If Kieth Olberman was still on nbc I’m sure he would have been letting us know how we must live our lives too. Sports is the only thing I watch on nbc but even that isn’t safe from the tatalitarians.

I used to look up to and admire Mr. Costas. I certainly believe he has the right to express his opinion. This, for now is a free country. However, when I hear this, part of me thinks that Me. Costas used his star power to manipulate the shows writers and producers to bloviate his personal position on air. If you realty think about it and have watched him over time you would come to see that Mr. Costas is nothing more than an intellectual bully. He hides behind sports trivia facts and figures to baffle you with his “supposed” intellect. Yet, when he opines like this he reveals himself. He is the main reason I will not watch NBC sports if he is on. I do not respect the man. He is a coward exposed.

“….Ronald Goldman would be alive today.” maybe he’d be alive if he had a gun.

  • obfuscatenot

Too many injectables to the face? Looking kinda scary these days. Old Mr. St.Louis/Costas, please just go walk around the East St. Louis alone, any time of day in your camel hair coat and your $1000 shoes. Dare you. Wait, that’s in Illinois, conceal and carry not-ville for law abiding folks. Wear your rolex. You’ll be perfectly safe. The Poe-lease are just a phone call away, but hey what if they take your phone too. Pay phone?

Might be alive if he hadn’t played football, but costas isn’t going to risk his money by saying anything bad about the NFL.

  • oldguy

I think if the clown wouldn’t have had a gun the girlfriend would still be dead but the clown would still be alive. This is a better outcome?

  • Tom in CA

A knife, strangulation, poisoning, death by a blunt instrument should also be banned!

Why didn’t Costas call for the banning of rope when on the same day a member of the Cleveland Browns’ grounds crew hung himself in a shed?

  • retire05

It’s nice for Mr. Costa to explain to us that without a gun, some drug addled football player, and his girlfriend, would still be alive. I guess there is no way Belcher could have stabbed her to death, drowned her in a bath tub, smashed her head in with a hammer or even, considering the weakling Belcher was, strangled her. And he certainly could not have slit his own wrists, hung himself, jumped from a bridge, or parked his car in the garage, started it, closed the garage door and waited until the exhaust killed him.

Had any of those things been done, just look at the list of products Costa could have blamed:

    Knife
    Water and bathtub
    Hammner
    another Knife,
    Hands
    Rope
    Bridge
    Car
    Garage

Costa is an idiot like all left wing lunatics.

  • oldguy

Ms Shine: Despite hollywood’s efforts to portray women as being of superior wit than men, it’s not true is it.

  • crackermike

Never forget for an instant that Costas makes an extravagant living covering these NFL players receiving the concussions that facilitate such actions. He makes his living off people destroying their brains and then has the gall to lecture me about the results. Go back to your sheltered, gated community existence you little dweeb. And don’t forget to count your money made off the injuries of others.

    That is my point.

  • Scoob

Instead of blaming guns, why don’t we blame our crappy culture.

Was Jovan married to the mother of his child? No. Did he think about getting married before having kids? I don’t know. After his girlfriend got pregnant, did he offer to marry her? Not sure. Were Jovan’s parents John Belcher and Cheryl Shepard married? I don’t know.

Maybe if the culture encouraged old, fashioned marriage instead celebrating hedonism, we would raise adults in this society instead of overgrown adolescents who in some unfortunate instances commit horrible crimes.

Who cares what Bob Costas has to say about anything other than sports. That ABC allowed him to editorialize like that says as much, if not more, about ABC than about Costas.

    Tom is correct

    Ban the crossbows!

“What we can find is that the individual that committed the violent acts was not a student at the college, but that there was a known relationship between [the victims],” said Casper Police Chief Chris Walsh at a press conference on Friday afternoon.

The Police Chief later clarified that all three had known each other. Police say the killer was not a current student at Casper College. Walsh could not confirm that the suspect was a former student, either. Walsh added that there were no records that could have tipped off authorities to any kind of threat. Walsh said no firearms were used during the homicides, and rather said that “edged weapons” were involved.

However, multiple students told K2 News that some kind of a bow-and-arrow weapon was used. Walsh later emphasized that following the attacks no suspects were at large and there (are) no threats of random violence.

I’ll believe these people are serious when guns are banned from movies. They barred smoking from movies, why not firearms?

The protagonist could run around with a strongly worded letter from the U.N. in his holster.

And we could all slit our wrists while watching and endless cavalcade of chick-flicks.

  • Jim M

I wrote NBC informing them the in the UK, where handguns are illegal, 35% of homicides are from domestic violence. I also told them that I had immediately turned off the game and that it would be a long time before I watched any programming on their network.

Bob Costas should shut his ignorant lefty mouth.

there’s something about first hand experience that costas most likely hasn’t considered. i would think his security is much better than the average american. and as a side note…i can’t stand a group on one. the height of cowardice.

RE: Elizabeth Smart (and her waterlogged kiddos)

We must either ban civilian ownership of cars outright (the literal “vehicle” of murder in her case), severely restrict WHICH people are permitted to purchase them (have to weed out the unstable, et al…), or mandate that vehicle manufacturers be required to build watertight vehicles that are unable to sink.

After all, it’s FOR THE CHILDREN!!!

  • Mike123

In response to the NFL, NBC, Costa, and other’s excitement to ban guns. Let me introduce you to Jeanette Goodwin.

Jeanette lives in the UK where guns are banned. She also has a jealous former lover who has stalked her for months. Mrs Goodwin has made seven reports to police from January last year about harassment and domestic violence. On July 24, she phoned police at 2.40pm to report further harassment, stating five times that she was scared and that her boyfriend had been at her garden fence

Jeanette Goodwin, 47, was murdered in a horrific knife-attack at her home in Southend, Essex, in July 2011. Her jealous former lover stalked the mother of three for months before stabbing her more than 30 times.

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2225280/Jeanette-Goodwin-Police-slammed-failing-mother-stabbed-death-lover.html

This is the future that NBC, the NFL, and Costa want. No, they demand. They demand the weak and vulnerable be rendered defenseless.

There is no dispute that a firearm is the best self-defense tool. Everyday, they are used by the weak and vulnerable to defend themselves against violent predators.

Costa can roll around in the blood of the victims, but know that there will be more blood if Costa and his ilk get their way.

  • #28 Chris. You are right. I’ll let you take up that issue while I work on the issue of banning bath tubs. Several mothers have drowned their children in them plus many people fall in them. We indeed must make this world safe for all the Owebama voters who are too stupid to be careful (something that requires responsibility).

  • #29 sounds like we need to ban knifes too.

  • I’m thinking Bob Costas really wants to talk about Fast and Furious.

  • Hillary Clinton

Libtards are flooding this country with degenerate 3rd world mongoloids who mug, rape and murder everything and everyone in order to destroy White America and stay in power indefinitely. Here’s hoping these anti-self-defense, anti-gun, soft-on-crime D Baggers get raped to death by their own pets…

  • Couldn’t have anything to do with painkillers and alcohol?…….Liberals are setting up the talking points for the next power-grab from this regime…..

  • Remco Kimber

To leftists, and Costas is undeniably a leftist, any and every opportunity is ripe for promoting the Total State via the Total Campaign,

“Tutto nello Stato, niente al di fuori dello Stato, nulla contro lo Stato” (“Everything in the State, nothing outside the State, nothing against the State”)

If the people don’t know their Constitution, and that unquestionably is an aim of the Democratic Party in particular, of government in general, then the people will have little complaint as the Constitution and the rights it’s suppose to protect are removed.

  • 10gallonhat

The motivation for the public statement is that the NFL is most likely facing down the barrel of a giant lawsuit from these families for not taking adequate security measures for the players on their own property. They have to make the argument about guns – not about the seedy side of football culture, nor the neer-do-wells they hire and promote. If they keep this up, more fans will spend their hard-earned money on NASCAR!

  • RKflorida

All this garbage pouring into the living room just for football?

  • RJR

There is no longer anything @ the Progs that surprises me. Jim, your last comment is what the central issue is.

    “These libs can’t help it.
They have to politicize everything – even a Sunday night football game.”

Do we realize that his recognition of this was the brilliance of Breitbart? He understood that the beast never sleeps so in response, neither did he.
The greatest failing of the Republican Party turns on this issue. They don’t want to depart from civility when the opposition does as a constant.
George W. with all his impotent advisers allowed lies to go unchallenged every day. Soon those lies become the currency of the discourse.
Mitt Romney failed to cope effectively with these tactics. (though he seemed far more willing to devour his opponents in the primaries.)

  • dba_vagabond_trader

    Molon labe.

  • RJR

10gallonhat you nailed it. “Follow the money”

  • Kissmygrits

Everyone is entitled to their own opinions but when did football analysts go from actually doing their job to trying to subvert the Constitution as Costas did last night? His rant against the 2nd amendment just goes to show us that the msm lock lib step extends to sports as well as politics. Rush has explained this for years. They are all corrupt.

  • The Conservative wall

Maybe we should ban food, because there are a lot of people committing slow suicide by eating way to much and will die because of their obesity.

  • Economan

Bob supports a party and subculture that portrays drugs as cool and violence as a way to solve problems. Maybe Bob should lecture people on the moral poverty that is widespread in this country? THAT is real cause of violence as well as the belief that life is cheap and has no meaning, you know Bob, like abortionists.

  • “If Jovan Belcher didn’t possess a gun, he and Kasandra Perkins would both be alive today.”

Yes, because there is no other way for people to die than a handgun.

I really don’t care for ideological liberal idiots.

  • wytebred

Another limp wrist heard from… he just needs a gun that fits in his garter belt… every country that has surrendered their guns has surrendered their liberties, and in many cases their lives… self defense aside, the second amendment defends our rights to arm ourselves against the government…

  • Ray

Bob. Maybe you should make a moral decision and quit doing football games. After all,it is a proven fact that football players die much sooner than normal men. Show some moral courage and quit doing football.

  • Patty

“Handguns do not enhance our safety.” Now, it is the handgun’s fault.

Obama wants to do away with assault weapon, entirely, now Costas wants handguns gone too.

But more important in all this is preaching during a Football game, instead of just saying nothing at all, keeping his mouth shut would have been better but the liberal never lets an opportunity to go by to express their Blow horn personal views, especially when no one cares what Costas has to say.

Be a sports announcer and he doesn’t do that very well, or retire.

#48 Ray nailed it spot on.

and so did #15 CrackerMike –

The irony is extra thick here.

Mr. Costas has made millions from an extremely violent sport that literally destroys men’s brains and bodies.

And now he has the gall to mount his little soap box and lecture the rest of us on how to conduct our lives and protect ourselves and our loved ones?

Yes, Mr. Costas, show us that you are now afraid to put your money where your mouth is, and resign immediately your position as NBC football broadcaster to protest the culture of violence that it breeds.

    (cue sound of crickets chirping)

    I thought so.

  • mg4us

I used to like Costas. .now will turn off set whenever he is on. .like during Olympics. . .

  • Patty

Had nothing to do with emotional and a need to seek Psychiatric help. So, Costas is saying Belcher couldn’t have killed with a steak knife or possibly drive the car off the cliff, or use drugs to kill himself or his girlfriend or punch her to death.

First thing these libs thing of is the GUN. JUMPING THE GUN, and ACTING STUPIDLY IS MORE LIKE IT.

Don’t you know the U.N. globalist big-wigs are calling the shots (oh no, I said the word shot)? They say, “We can make you and we can break you.” Why else would a sports commentator even comment on gun control? Just like Rosey O’Donnell—she tells us not to carry for protection while she does. I wouldn’t be one bit surprised if Costas carried.

  • Jorge

How about reading the Constitution Mr. Costas. Some of like our freedom.

  • shadow

A knife, strangulation, poisoning, death by a blunt instrument should also be banned

Let’s compare statitics. According to the FBI, out of 13,636 murders in 2009, 9,146 were by firearms, 1825 by knife, 121 by strangulation, 6 by poisoning and 611 by blunt objects. Basically, firearms account for twice as many murders as all other weapons, combined.

You’re just experiencing the typical right wing knee-jerk over-reaction.

  • shadow

And that means what, exactly? That had firearms been banned in 2009 there would have been 9,146 less murders?

Not all, and perhaps not even most. but a healthy percentage. I’ve never heard of a drive-by drowning or a drive-by strangulation.

Mind you, I am not in favor of banning guns. For one thing, the cat is already out of the bag, and there is no putting it back in. And I agree that people have the right to defend themselves. I just have to acknowledge reality … guns in the wrong hands invites tragedy. And sometime you don’t know they’re the wrong hands until it is too late.
