It Begins… White House Turkey Is Pardoned, Then Euthanized

It’s an Obama world…
Even turkeys fear the Obama death panels.

A turkey pardoned by President Obama last year was euthanized Monday, and officials are insisting the timing of the death — days before the Thanksgiving holiday — is not suspicious.

Peace, the White House turkey pardoned by Barack Obama in 2011, was put down this week.
WPTV reported:

Peace, one of two turkeys pardoned by President Obama last year, was euthanized Monday, according to an official who insisted the timing of the death – days before the Thanksgiving holiday – was not suspicious.

Rebecca Aloisi, vice president for marketing at the Mount Vernon Estate, confirmed that Peace had been dead after a weekend “illness.” But Aloise knew neither the nature of the illness, the manner of death, nor what had been done with the remains of the large, edible bird.

“I appreciate where you’re going with this,” Aloisi told CNN. “But I assure you that these birds are extremely well cared for.” The decision to euthanize the bird was made by a veterinarian in consultation with Mount Vernon’s livestock department, she said.

Oh, puh-leeze. They just needed another turkey and Peace wasn’t doing anything anyhoo.
Besides it was about time this slacker contributed something and being dinner was about all he was good for.

  • Tom

I killed one of my own this week. Tasty.

Peace was getting old and useless so time to get rid of him. They had to make room for the younger turkeys who would not need expensive vet care.

    This is Obamacare for turkeys.

  • Benson II

I’m not suggesting Obama planed it. But it’s ironic that a turkey pardoned by the president one day is killed the next. Kinda like everything else he touches.

[At the Nov. 23, 2011, pardoning, President Obama said Peace was “going to retire to a life of leisure at Mount Vernon – the same place where George Washington spent his golden years.”]
    another broken obama promise.

  • Sasja

Actually, Peace was pardoned last year. About as long as anyone will get (if they’re lucky) under Barrycare when diagnosed with a serious illness too costly to treat.

For Fourth Straight Year, Obama’s Thanksgiving Message Doesn’t Thank God

Yet again, President Obama’s Thanksgiving message eschewed any direct reference to thanking God, making this the fourth straight year in which the President of the United States has ignored the central message of the holiday in favor of political grandstanding.

This year, Obama’s central message was that now that he’s been re-elected, Americans should agree with all of his policies. His unity routine sounds strangely empty after a campaign in which he focused on dividing Americans:

But most of all, it’s a time to give thanks for each other, and for the incredible bounty we enjoy. READ MORE“““““READ MORE

OT but not going to believe this:

FRESNO, Calif. (AP) — A third person has died from eating poisonous mushrooms at a California senior care facility where a caretaker found the fungus in the backyard and used it to make soup, authorities said Wednesday.

The 90-year-old man died on Saturday, state Department of Social Services spokesman Oscar Ramirez told The Associated Press. The Placer County Sheriff’s Office identified him as Frank Warren Blodgett.

Ramirez said an official with Gold Age Villa in Loomis called Monday to report the third death. State officials are continuing to investigate the incident that sheriff’s investigators have described as a terrible accident.

Three other people were sickened when they ate the soup made from the poisonous mushrooms on Nov. 8, including the caretaker who made it. Their conditions have not been made public.

The caretaker at the six-bed care facility did not know the mushrooms were poisonous, investigators said. The following day, those who ate the soup were ill………….

Remember When Condoleezza Rice Was Called a ‘House Nigga’?

    […………………………….] READ MORE

Matthews pointed out the seemingly inconsistent fact that McCain supported Condoleezza Rice’s nomination to the State Department, but Wolffe easily saw past that. McCain’s support for Rice in 2004, he explained, is further evidence of his racism. “John McCain said the people — the Democrats who were questioning Condi Rice’s credential — they were just engaged with bitterness, they needed to move on,” Wolffe said. “Why has he changed his tune? What is it about Susan Rice?” The question, obviously, is rhetorical.

Wolffe is not alone. Ohio congresswoman Marcia Fudge noted sorrowfully, “It is a shame that anytime something goes wrong, they [Republicans] pick on women and minorities.” South Carolina congressman Jim Clyburn took things a step further, telling CNN on Tuesday that he hears racial “code words” in Republican opposition to Rice’s nomination. Those are words such as “incompetent.” “These kinds of terms that those of us — especially those of us who were grown and raised in the South — we’ve been hearing these little words and phrases all of our lives and we get insulted by them,” Clyburn said.

And hey, what’s being called a “house nigga” when there are racists lurking out there using code words like “incompetent”?

Wow, I am a racist in there mind, I call Obama an incompetent all the time. AND THAT IS BECAUSE HE IS. I HAVE BLACK FRIENDS, WORK WITH BLACKS, NEIGHBORS ARE BLACK.

Aren’t those who are so above the fray just about the cockiest humans on the earth.

How many times must I say THE SHADOW OF DEATH follows this man everywhere…Utterly satanic….. pardon a turkey by immitating a priest in mockery… blessing the Turkey with the left hand waving an INVERTED sign of the cross over the bird , then the Turkey is struck down by GOD with a sudden illness…..A BAD OMEN.

The nazi progressive promise of world peace already collapsing into an armageddon scenario in the Holy Land….Even the Pope has to get in on the fall of mankind by proclaiming the date of Jesus birth a LIE. ….Soon the coffins will open …. the dead will walk ….and STILL you WILL NOT BELIEVE IN THE LORD. …>

Sorry, I pray for the day that racists go the way of the dinosaur. Sorry off topic but this creams my corn.

#11 Patty- With all due respect but I’ve started reading right past your posts because you just can’t seem to stay on topic, over and over, and over again. What is your goal with trying to take readers past the points made in the articles posted, and into the direction you want the focus taken to? I’ve watched you do this over and over again.

Each year since 1947, the National Turkey Federation and the Poultry and Egg National Board have given a turkey to the President of the United States at a White House ceremony. Since then, presidents have been more likely to eat the turkey rather than give it a reprieve. A notable exception occurred in 1963, when President Kennedy, referring to the turkey given to him, said, “Let’s just keep him.” It wasn’t until the first Thanksgiving of President George H.W. Bush, in 1989, that a turkey was officially pardoned for the first time.
    Confusing the Practice

Presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush have continued the pardons begun under the first Bush. Some confusion about the true origin of this practice has crept into recent presidential speeches though. One story claims that Harry Truman pardoned the turkey given to him in 1947, but the Truman Library has been unable to find any evidence of this. Another story claims the tradition dates back to Abraham Lincoln pardoning his son Tad’s pet turkey.
From Frying Pan Park to Disneyland

What’s certain is that since 1989 a turkey—and its alternate—have been pardoned each year. An alternate is chosen just in case the first bird is unable to perform its duties. For fifteen years through 2004, the turkeys were given to Kidwell Farm, a petting zoo at Frying Pan Park in Herndon, Virginia. The turkeys would receive a last minute pardon before arriving, and were then led to their new home at the Turkey Barn after enduring a turkey “roast” full of poultry humor and history.

I think this whole busy of pardoning a Turkey is silly.

  • Sasja

Well, silly or not it has become tradition and one that will more than likely not end any time soon.

My question. Do I want to click on donh’s link? Last time I did, I regretted going there.

Here is the video of Obama’s turkey pardon. NOTE the inverted cross Obama draws with his left hand….and how he says ” he loves this bird “….It represents life being about ” second chances” ….that this bird is ” moving forward “…and 3 days later the bird is DEAD….>

  • Sasja

donh, that bird was last year’s pardon recipient.
