With Gas Prices at Record Levels Obama Cuts Off Drilling in Half of Alaska’s National Petroleum Reserve

Gas prices have more than doubled since Barack Obama took over the White House.
But that didn’t stop him from cutting off drilling in August in half of Alaska’s National Petroleum Reserve.

The Obama Administration planned for higher gas prices and fewer jobs through their many job-killing decisions.

The Wall Street Journal reported, via FOX Nation:

President Obama is campaigning as a champion of the oil and gas boom he’s had nothing to do with, and even as his regulators try to stifle it. The latest example is the Interior Department’s little-noticed August decision to close off from drilling nearly half of the 23.5 million acre National Petroleum Reserve in Alaska.

The area is called the National Petroleum Reserve because in 1976 Congress designated it as a strategic oil and natural gas stockpile to meet the “energy needs of the nation.” Alaska favors exploration in nearly the entire reserve. The feds had been reviewing four potential development plans, and the state of Alaska had strongly objected to the most restrictive of the four. Sure enough, that was the plan Interior chose.

Interior Secretary Ken Salazar says his plan “will help the industry bring energy safely to market from this remote location, while also protecting wildlife and subsistence rights of Alaska Natives.” He added that the proposal will expand “safe and responsible oil and gas development, and builds on our efforts to help companies develop the infrastructure that’s needed to bring supplies online.”

The problem is almost no one in the energy industry and few in Alaska agree with him. In an August 22 letter to Mr. Salazar, the entire Alaska delegation in Congress—Senators Mark Begich and Lisa Murkowski and Representative Don Young—call it “the largest wholesale land withdrawal and blocking of access to an energy resource by the federal government in decades.” This decision, they add, “will cause serious harm to the economy and energy security of the United States, as well as to the state of Alaska.” Mr. Begich is a Democrat.

The letter also says the ruling “will significantly limit options for a pipeline” through the reserve.

    The Great Ethanol Scam

The rocketing costs of gasoline and the escalating price of corn are the result of U.S. government mandates requiring the inclusion of ethanol in the gasoline all Americans must use. The time has long since passed to eliminate ethanol from this primary fuel. A recent report by ActionAid USA, “Fueling the Food Crisis: The Cost to Developing Countries of U.S. Corn Ethanol Expansion” is based on work by researchers at Tufts University. ActionAid USA is an anti-poverty group. The study found that the corn-importing countries of Central America and North Africa are at the highest risk from ethanol expansion—the requirement…

    and then this:

Just when we thought we may finally get one decent economic data point which even we could get excited about, we decided to look at the Non-Seasonally Adjusted September retail sales data. After all the $4.7 billion seasonal increase in headline retail sales was the second highest ever (in absolute terms, second only to 2004). Turns out our curiosity was an enthusiasm-dowsing mistake, as a number which on the surface looked good, was hardly validated by the Not-Seasonally Adjusted number, which plunged by $31.9 billion. How does this September sequential change compare to previous years? See the chart below and decide for yourselves if the massive NSA plunge in September 2012 merits the second best seasonally adjusted retail sales increase in history.

If anything, the 2012 spread of SA vs NSA retail change is most comparable to that from September 2007. As a reminder, this is 2 months before the 2nd Great Depression officially started.

    Obama: Carbon Eating Our Planet

At a campaign event President Obama told his supporters that carbon is eating our planet, and vowed to spend more money on green energy. You know, because that’s worked out so well for us in the past.

President Barack Obama warned his supporters about the threat of global warming and vowed that more money to subsidize green energy firms would prevent it.

“By the way, yes, my plan will reduce the carbon pollution that is eating our planet because climate change is not a hoax,” Obama said at a campaign rally at the Bank United Arena at the University of Miami. “More droughts and hurricanes and wildfires, that’s not a joke. That’s a threat to our children’s future, and we can do something about it.”

Obama said that he planned to spend more money to subsidize green projects such as wind and solar if elected to a second term. Obama’s Republican opponent Mitt Romney has criticized him for spending $90 billion on green energy companies, many of which went into bankruptcy. (Read More)

Talk about fear mongering. It’s a good thing nobody but his most ardent supporters listen to anything he says anymore.

And the chart did not mention the Gulf oil disaster.. where BP may have been directed to damage it’s well..
Where OBie’s administration ignored court orders (twice?)
Where Obie gave money to Brazil to develop off shore wells…. after our rigs fled the Gulf coast…

    There is so much more..

Don’t forget to point out how higher gas prices mean higher prices for ANYTHING we buy that’s transported. GROCERIES, etc.

Our incomes are DOWN THOUSANDS (over $4K), our cost of living has gone UP, and Obama’s IDON”TCARE has slapped us with another HUGE TAX (SupremeCourt told us so). We’ve only begun to feel the PAIN.

  • stuart

What’s the line from Atlas Shrugged? They take what they want and tax the rest.
There is only one thing wrong with this idea.
Sooner or later we will have no ability to pay any further taxes, fees, impositions, and more.
Sooner or later, that which cannot be payed in gold will be repaid in lead.
Five thousand years of history says so.

When Romney is inaugurated next January, it would be hilarious to see the expression on Obama’s face if or when Romney mentions his intentions to open up most federal lands to oil exploration and greenlight the Keystone Pipeline.

    Pure comedy gold.

  • Highlander

DMG is correct … sort of.

in June/July of 2008, gas prices spiked by over a dollar a gallon to around $4 a gallon. However, it was only a temporary spike, and they quickly dropped back down to around $2 a gallon. Since Obama was elected, gasoline rices have been on a steady rise, topping out at just under $4 a gallon today, and closer to $5 a gallon in some areas. At this point, after four years of Obama’s failed economic policies and assaults on our energy industries, there is absolutely no reason to believe that prices will do anything but go higher, and not just for gasoline either, but for ALL forms of energy.

Of course, that’s exactly what Obama and Chu promised to do to our energy markets, right from the start of his Presidency. Apparently, people were so busy fawning over Obama and rallying behind false promises of “hope and change” that they completely missed their REPEATED promises to raise our energy costs. Of course, I will be happy to post links to those speeches in the event that anyone wants to dispute the fact that we were warned …

The bottom line is that we WERE warned, and over half of the country chose to ignore those warnings. In November, we’ll find out if anyone is paying attention NOW …

The bottom line is that the steady rise in energy prices is choking off any hope we ever had of an economic recovery. Until someone addresses THAT issue, our economy is going to remain stagnant.

  • Highlander

Whoops … last paragraph should read:

The bottom line is that we WERE warned, and over half of the country chose to ignore those warnings. make everyone aware of the little know fact that when the flow of oil delivered through the alaska pipeline goes below 30% capacity, it is likely to cause crystalization of the oil in the colder months which can lead to pump houses failing and pipeline ruptures…if the pipeline is shut down and the continuous flow of oil is stopped, then the pipeline must be dismantled according to the lease terms…

Obama betrayed the American voters who expected he would not

This writer herself is a member of two US State bars where the oath I made was to protect the US Constitution. Moreover, as a born-Haitian who spent what seems a lifetime advocating against the US destruction of legitimate elections in Haiti, against the US and the wealthy’s support of apartheid and ethnocide in Haiti; against US destruction of the 1987 Haiti Constitution with illegal US regime changes in Haiti; as an advocate who has had to deal with the poor Haitians’ indiscriminate INDEFINITE DETENTION simply because the US and Haiti’s repugnant undemocratic forces suspect these poor voted and supported Lavalas, I find NOTHING redeeming about the Constitutional lawyer, named Barrack Obama.]

OhBummer is a b00b and a fool for attacking the American Tea Partiers. Heck, he thought that he had all of us hoodwinked, hornswoggled, and bamboozled. He’s annoyed that the Tea Partiers are not grateful to him for hijacking the American healthcare system — the greatest act of vandalism perpetrated upon the American people since a gang of jihadi frootloops and loonytoons hijacked some planes and crashed them into the World Trade Center towers — and the Pentagon, and made a failed attempt to crash into the White House — and instead drilled a hole in a Pennsylvania farm thanks to some very courageous American passengers.

And — now widely seen for what he is — the president presents a problem for the Democrat-captured media. They pump out his propaganda for him — and, like the opinion monitors in Ayn Rand’s novel, “Atlas Shrugged” — they are dodging brickbats and rotten vegetables.

    He’s pompous, pampered, and pretentious — a pseudo-intellectual fop. He’s a glorified, smooth-lyin’ dandy, and slicker than Sick Willie Clinton. He’s a dictator-on-the-make, a bloodsxcking, predatory humanitarian thug, and a low-down skunk.

He’s a fraud and a swindler. He lies when he inhales and he lies when he exhales; his oxygen is the falsification of reality. He lies, placidly and laconically, as if deception were a soporific drug.

He’s a friend of the poor and the downtrodden — indeed, you can hear the milk of human kindness sloshing around inside of him when he walks.

He declares himself the post-racial leader — “Let me be clear!” he intones — and he hides behind his race, daring his critics to put their reputation for fairness at risk.

He pauses to ponder the portent of his propaganda — and it is fakery; he smiles and his mendacity comes shining through. Shake hands with Barak Hushpuppy OhBummer — “The Mistake of ‘08” — the illegal alien squatter in the White House until his “papers” have been lab-tested for age and chemicals, etc — the community organizer of the OhBummer Wrecking Crew, the more-fascist-than-socialist Fleabagger-in-Chief, the closet Muslim with the mix-and-match morality, the King of The Republic of Lies — and America’s first and last Arab president. Now count your fingers.

The Democrats have this “enemies list” — denominated in epithets and insults aimed at the people whose wallets they wish to hijack and take up residence inside. You can be a “Racist!” and you can be a “Terrorist!” and you can be a “Dictator” and you can be a “Hostage-taker!” and you can “Wear a tinfoil hat!” and you can be a “Homophobe!” and you can be a “Teabagger!” — a homosexual man taking his partner’s scrotum into his mouth. You can be “Selfish!” and you can be a “Wacko!” and you can be a “Hick!” and you can be a “Rube!” and you can be “Uneducated” and you can be an “Extremist!”

You can be a “Right-wing-nut!” and you can be “Mentally Ill” and you can be “Deranged!” and you can be a “Flake!” and you can be a “Warmonger!” and you can be “Unenlightened!” and you can be a “FatCat!” and you can be a “Greedy!” member of the productive class, and you can be a “Nazi!” and you can be a “Fascist!” — although no one more closely approaches the precise description of “Nazi!” or “Fascist!” than the usual Democrat propagandist — either official, or self-appointed.

Lies, after all, are the heart and soul and the sword and shield of the Democrat party.

So all you have to do to occupy multiple epithets on the Democrats’ enemies list is to insist that they take their hands off yourself, off your wallet, off your property, off your kids, off your diet, off your healthcare, off your household appliances, off your car, off your bank account, off your weapons of self-defense, off your liberty, and off your freedom of speech. Insist on all these good things – and that qualifies you to be spat upon by nasty, mean-spirited scum — by The Friends of All Mankind — by a gang of lying, thieving, dope-smoking, pill-popping, coke-snorting, sticky-fingered, bloodsxcking, tax-eating, gun-stealing, predatory humanitarian hoodlums, thugs and gangsters — by the Democrat party, in other words. No political party in the history of America more profoundly deserves absolute and outright destruction.

“How stands the city on this winter night? More prosperous, more secure, and happier than it was eight years ago. But more than that: After 200 years, two centuries, she still stands strong and true on the granite ridge, and her glow has held steady no matter what storm. And she’s still a beacon, still a magnet for all who must have freedom, for all the pilgrims from all the lost places who are hurtling through the darkness, toward home.”

—Ronald Reagan, Farewell Address, January 11, 1989
