A car bomb yesterday killed 8 people in Beirut including a leading anti-Syrian politician.
The Iranian regime blamed Israel today for the bomb blast yesterday that killed an anti-Syrian lawmaker.
The Jagran Post reported:
Iran on Saturday condemned a car bomb attack in Beirut that killed a prominent Lebanese intelligence official on Friday and suggested that Israel was to blame.
A senior Israeli official dismissed the suggestion as “beyond pathetic”.
The slain Lebanese official, Brigadier-General Wissam al-Hassan, was close to several Lebanese politicians who back the uprising in Syria and led several investigations into Syrian meddling in Lebanese affairs, including one that implicated Damascus and its Lebanese ally Hezbollah in the assassination of former Prime Minister Rafik al-Hariri in 2005.
Iran is Syria’s most powerful regional ally.

whitehouse
Hours later, the White House released a statement condemning the “terrorist attack.”
“The United States condemns in the strongest terms the terrorist attack today in Beirut that killed Lebanese Internal Security Forces Information Bureau Director Wissam al-Hassan and at least seven others, and wounded dozens more,” said national security council spokesman Tommy Vietor. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of those killed and injured in this heinous attack and with the Lebanese people, who have sacrificed greatly to overcome war and violence. Lebanon’s security and stability are vital both for the Lebanese people and their neighbors. There is no justification for using assassination as a political tool. The United States will stand by the Government of Lebanon and the people of Lebanon as they work to bring those responsible for this barbaric attack to justice and build a future where all Lebanese can live in security and dignity.”
The White House’s quick decision to call this bombing a “terrorist attack” shows a marked change after it took the White House weeks to call the 9/11 attack in Benghazi that killed four Americans a “terrorist attack.”

International monitors at US polling places draw criticism
United Nations-affiliated election monitors from Europe and central Asia will be at polling places around the U.S. looking for voter suppression activities by conservative groups, a concern raised by civil rights groups during a meeting this week. The intervention has drawn criticism from a prominent conservative-leaning group combating election fraud.
The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), a United Nations partner on democratization and human rights projects, will deploy 44 observers around the county on Election Day to monitor an array of activities, including potential disputes at polling places.
Liberal-leaning civil rights groups met with representatives from the OSCE this week to raise their fears about what they say are systematic efforts to suppress minority voters likely to vote for President Obama.
The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, the NAACP and the ACLU, among other groups, warned this month in a letter to Daan Everts, a senior official with OSCE, of “a coordinated political effort to disenfranchise millions of Americans — particularly traditionally disenfranchised groups like minorities.”
The request for foreign monitoring of election sites drew a strong rebuke from Catherine Engelbrecht, founder and president of True the Vote, a conservative-leaning group seeking to crack down on election fraud.
“These activist groups sought assistance not from American sources, but from the United Nations,” she said in a statement to The Hill. “The United Nations has no jurisdiction over American elections.” [.........................]

Personally, only 3% of Americans seem to have not made up their minds. But whether it is more or less. The damage to Obama is done. His credibility to lead is diminished. And if the American people are that naive and ignorant to figure out Obama has no leadership ability and he is re-elected, which I don’t see, SO BE IT AND WAIT FOR THE TOTAL END OF AMERICA HAS WE ONCE KNEW IT.

#4 Patty, yes but a lot of people have swung to Romney just recently — including a large number of Jews, just to name one group. Do you honestly believe a real or fantasy agreement with Iran to stop nuclear arms production might not cause them to swing back to Obama? I’m just trying to send up a flare so Team Romney doesn’t say something on Monday about Iran that will come back to bite him in the a$$.

OT…Maybe Iranian-born Valerie Jarrett would blame Israel too:
Our U.S. ambassador to Libya and three other Americans who served us there are dead because of insufficient security while the assistant to the president for public engagement and intergovernmental affairs, a woman named Valerie Jarrett, has been given an entourage of well-armed, highly trained protectors as she goes to and from work in Washington, goes shopping or out to dinner, and travels to political events and vacations on Martha’s Vineyard.
Why is Valerie Jarrett such a high priority when it comes to security, and why are our diplomats in Libya so much less of a priority?

NYT: United States, Iran agree to one-on-one nuclear talks
By REUTERS, JPOST.COM STAFF

Deal is reportedly the result of years of back-channel negotiations between US, Iranian officials; talks over Iran’s nuclear program will only begin after the US election, an Iranian demand, according to the ‘NY Times.’

The United States and Iran have agreed for the first time to one-on-one negotiations on Iran’s nuclear program, the New York Times reported, citing Obama administration officials.
According to the report, the talks will take place some time after the Nov. 6 US presidential election, as Iran insists on knowing who the American president will be at the time.
The Times reported that the agreement was the culmination of years-long intense back-channel communications between Iranian and US officials.
The paper stated that while the announcement may enable US President Obama to make a case that he is nearing a diplomatic breakthrough with Iran, it may also allow the Iranians to buy time to continue their nuclear progress.
In this respect, the Times warned that there is still a chance that the initiative could fall through, even in the event Obama is re-elected. Specifically, American officials told the paper they were uncertain whether Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei had signed off on the deal, although American understandings reportedly had been reached with senior Iranian officials who report to him.

I seriously doubt that many Americans will buy into Obama’s “October surprise” with respect to Iran “temporarily” cutting back on their nuclear activity, in exchange for lessening the sanctions against Iran. First of all it isn’t only the Obama admin. who has sanctioned Iran, many European countries have joined in with those sanctions. Obama can’t wave his magic wand. Just recently the Europeans increased those sanctions. No one will buy the O’s desperate measure.

#18 – there are MANY Americans who are war weary, and MANY who have an alarming tendency to believe anything that makes them “feel better/safer”. And let’s face it, Axelrod and Obama are masters of telling people what they want to hear. FWIW, a couple of Fox contributors share my concern.
The White House is apparently denying the story, but it’s possible they are only denying the TIMING of the agreement and/or the possibility of one-on-one talks. As usual, their statement was rather vague.
I just hope Romney has a good response ready for the debate, because it’s very likely Axelrod is working on a “trap” right now — ie. a way to get Romney to say something about Iran that will make him look foolish, or like a war monger, etc. Romeny needs to have a BULLETPROOF response ready for Monday.
