US Navy Fires On Ship in Persian Gulf – 1 Dead, 3 Injured

The Rappahannock was involved in an incident in the Persian Gulf off the coast of Dubai with an unknown motorboat. One person was killed and three were injured.
ABC reported:
An American Navy ship fired on a boat in the Persian Gulf today, killing one person and injuring three others aboard the craft, a U.S. naval official told ABC News.
A spokesperson for the Navy’s 5th Fleet, which is based in nearby Bahrain, said that a security team aboard the oil supply ship U.S.N.S. Rappahannock fired a .50 caliber machine gun at a “small motor vessel after it disregarded warnings and rapidly approached the U.S. ship” off the coast of Jebel Ali, a city approximately 30 miles from Dubai in the United Arab Emirates.
The Navy is investigating the incident as details continue to emerge. A Navy official said the offending vessel was a white pleasure craft, but a UAE official told ABC News it was a fishing boat with four Indians and two Emirates on board. There doesn’t appear to be any indication the incident was terror-related, the UAE official said.

I kind of hope that it was just stupidity on the part of the people on the “pleasure craft.” You know, they need help, they go rushing over to tell us something (once they see us, they’ll stop shooting…). “Approaching rapidly” though.
My problem is I need to know specifically what a warning is. Was it gun fire or words or a siren, what?

It is well known among the mariners not to approach these ships. Sometimes they like to come up and touch the ship just to take a picture of their hand on the hull. I know the Iranians like to brag that they put decals of the Iranian flag on hulls of ships that pass through the Hormuz Strait.
Not a wise thing to do when an embarked security team has a MA Deuce to keep sea life off the hull, including greasy Arabs and Persians.

Have you guys heard that a 4th aircraft carrier is enroute to the Arabian Sea/Persian Gulf to join Enterprise, Eisenhower and Lincoln? Eisenhower deployed from Hampton Roads early, supposedly to relieve Lincoln and now Stennis gets orders to move early.
