Oh Brother. Obama Says Romney “Twisted” His Words By Quoting His Actual Words

Barack Obama is on the warpath.
He claims Mitt Romney is “twisting” his words.
…By reading exact quotes from cue cards.

Last week while campaigning Mitt Romney used Barack Obama’s exact words – “If you’ve got a business, you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen.” – to attack President Obama at his campaign stops.
Romney read the exact quote from a card.

Last night Barack Obama lashed out at Mitt Romney during a fundraiser. Obama accused Romney of “twisting my comments” by quoting his actual words.
Michael A. Memoli carries water for Obama here and misreports his actual attack on business owners in this LA Times report:

President Obama accused rival Mitt Romney of “knowingly twisting” his comments about American business, in what amounted to his most forceful response to more than a week of sustained attacks by Republicans over a sound bite the president’s campaign argued was taken out of context.

In remarks to a feisty audience at Oakland’s Fox Theater on Monday evening, Obama contended that Romney had misrepresented what he said this month when he spoke of the role government plays in supporting the growth of business. He said Romney’s response showed he fails to appreciate the best way to grow the economy in a balanced way.

At issue were the president’s remarks at a campaign stop in Roanoke, Va., on July 13, where he spoke of his belief that many wealthier Americans were willing to “give something back” to help grow the U.S. economy.

“If you’ve been successful, you didn’t get there on your own,” Obama said at the time. “If you were successful, somebody along the line gave you some help. There was a great teacher somewhere in your life. Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive. Somebody invested in roads and bridges. If you’ve got a business, you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen.”

Republicans portrayed a truncated version of that argument — that “if you’ve got a business, you didn’t build that” — as showing that Obama was hostile to American business.

Obama raised the flap Monday while warning his supporters that Republicans would spend unprecedented sums distorting his vision this fall.

Obama raised the flap Monday while warning his supporters that Republicans would spend unprecedented sums distorting his vision this fall.

“Earlier today Gov. Romney was at it again, knowingly twisting my words around to suggest that I don’t value small businesses,” he said, referring to his opponent’s comments at a campaign event in Southern California that morning. “In politics we all tolerate a certain amount of spin. I understand these are the games that get played in political campaigns. But when folks omit entire sentences of what I said — they start splicing and dicing — you may have gone a little over the edge.”

In the latest USA Today poll, Mitt Romney is preferred over Barack Obama to fix the economy.

Obama apparently realizes that defending his straight-up Anti-American Socialism is not going to play well on the campaign trail; but at least he, as a [uber-]Liberal, can at least refuse to accept responsibility for his deeds. Decades of biased reporting by the DNC media has conditioned all Liberals to feel entitled to shirk responsibility for whatever they do. And naturally their constituents are The Irresponsible. If Liberal politicians accepted responsibility for their misdeeds, they would send a mixed message to a large portion of their base.

Saying that he is being misquoted — or [sniff] misunderstood — is a dog whistle to the DNC media to run interference.

Dick Morris says NASTY BO’s ratings dive:

In April, Obama had a 42-45 favorable/unfavorable rating, itself a shock given his vastly higher favorable ratings only a few months before. Now, he has a favorable rating of only 36% and an unfavorable rating of 48%.
Rather the cause of his decreased likeability is his negative campaigning, both in person and on the air. He is now no longer the sunny, optimistic, friendly person he portrayed himself as being in 2008. Instead, a nasty, surly, angry image has taken over.

This change is at the heart of Obama’s dilemma. The more he goes negative, the more he hurts himself in the process and undermines the reservoir to good will that has sustained him through tough economic times.

As recently as one year ago, Obama’s personal favorability was ten points above his vote share in most polls. Now it is ten points below it presaging further a likely further drop in his poll numbers.

The sleepers may be waking up! It’s not just the economy…he’s one nasty piece of work.

  • The proof of Obama’s mindset: He thought America would kiss him for that. Instead America is smacking him around like the traitor he is. What is an unhinged Marxist to do?

Consider, Barack’s argument is “But when folks omit entire sentences of what I said — they start splicing and dicing — you may have gone a little over the edge.”

does anyone not question why Obama is still
calling them “THE BUSH TAX CUTS” in 2012??

does anyone not question why Congress
has not passed a BUDGET in 3 years??

[The Constitution requires that the Senate pass a budget every year.
The Senate hasn’t passed one in more than three years. It is more

Former President George W. Bush and Laura Bush visited Mitt Romney’s campaign headquarters in Boston on Tuesday, although the presumptive Republican nominee was in Reno, Nev., to speak to the Veterans of Foreign Wars convention.

Romney’s wife, Ann, introduced the Bushes to the Boston team. It’s the latest sign that the campaign isn’t running away from the former head of the party.
A new poll released by The Hill this week found that the majority of voters pin most of the blame on Obama for the weak economy. Thirty-four percent of respondents to the poll said Obama is the most to blame, while only 18 percent pointed the finger at Bush.

Looks like it is time for ‘reality’. Let’s pretend that Obama did mean that business do not build roads and see where this takes us.

Within the last few months, my city govt decided to allow a new burger joint to establish their business. In the terms, the city called for the burger joint to replace the street curbs and add a new drive thru lane extension on their lot. The city also demanded that they install a new traffic light to help with the additional traffic. Of course, the city also has a special sales tax for fast food.

This is what ALWAYS happens in the real world! It can be easily argued that business DID build the roads!

Since Obama never actually worked in even a small city council, like Palin did in Wasilla, he has no idea how ANYTHING is actually done!

Lawmakers and government accountability advocates have expressed concern over a July 9 video message directed at Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives agents by ATF Acting Director Todd Jones, which they say is a veiled threat to government whistleblowers.

“Choices and consequences means simply that if you make poor choices, that if you don’t abide by the rules, that if you don’t respect the chain of command, if you don’t find the appropriate way to raise your concerns to your leadership, there will be consequences, because we cannot tolerate—we cannot tolerate—an undisciplined organization,” Jones said in the video.

Let’s try a little Obama logic here. Obama has made it abudantly clear that it is George W. Bush’s fault that Obama doesn’t know anything about economics and is completely inadequate as a president. Therefore, it only stands to reason that if Obama learns that 70+ percent of registered voters disagree with what comes out of his mouth, it must be Romney’s fault after all (even democrats are saying that they’re tired of hearing that it is Bush’s fault so it must be Romney’s, right). We all know that the one couldn’t be responsible for actually saying anything that stupid. It must be the world that can’t hear correctly. How dare Romney repeat’s the annointed one’s actual words instead of translating them into something that the citizenry would accept?

  • It scares me to think that, the American public might re-elect this person to the president`s office.
He has done more to harm this country than anyone I can think of in the history of this country, and I studied history.
For once, I would like to see a larger portion of Americans to really see what he is.
I wonder if he is eligible to be president, I wonder if he has any idea of what we are talking about
when it come to the economy and jobs.
Taking from the rich and giving it to the poor sounds good, but it doesn`t work well. A good example, look at many of the lotto winners.
The food stamp program is good, but uncontrolled it is a waste. It was not meant to support illegal aliens. They don`t belong here any way.
There are many good programs to help the poor, but they are being twisted to make them look like obama is allowing them to be expanded. If used properly they can help people move out the low status they are in.
I beleive as Ronald Reagan said: The best welfare program is a job. Lets go back to the idea of education and job training, so that once a person has completed them, they will never have to go back on public support again in their lives.
I also beleive that the small business man/woman are the backbone of this nation.
This from a old GI, who considers the small business men and women the real heros.

    EDITORIAL: Obama’s feats of weakness
Administration’s effort to boost global image has flopped

At the Veterans of Foreign Wars convention in Reno, Nev., on Monday, President Obama heaped praise on his foreign policy record. “Because we’re leading around the world, people have a new attitude toward America,” he said. “There’s more confidence in our leadership. We see it everywhere we go.” This raises the question: Where exactly has he been going?

Since Mr. Obama took office, the opinion of the United States generally has declined in every country surveyed by the Pew Global Attitudes Project, according to a report released in June. Despite the vaunted White House effort to reach out to Muslim-majority countries, U.S. favorability ratings in Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon and Pakistan are below where they were in 2008, when George W. Bush was at the helm. The study notes that “opinion is generally against Obama in most of the predominantly Muslim countries surveyed, with about half or more in Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon and Pakistan saying Obama should not be elected again.”[….]

    • April 13, 2011: “[The GOP] vision… says up to 50 million Americans have to lose their health insurance in order for us to reduce the deficit. Who are these 50 million Americans? Many are somebody’s grandparents — may be one of yours — who wouldn’t be able to afford nursing home care without Medicaid. Many are poor children. Some are middle-class families who have children with autism or Down’s syndrome. Some of these kids with disabilities are — the disabilities are so severe that they require 24-hour care. These are the Americans we’d be telling to fend for themselves.”

    • July 1, 2011: “You go talk to your constituents and ask them, ‘Are you willing to compromise your kids’ safety so some corporate-jet owner can get a tax break?”

I, along with most other conservatives, have heard Obama’s Roanoke speech clips dozens of times. I can’t, in any way, see how he meant something other than what is being stated, that he is attempting to dismiss the skills, risk, and investment that every small business owner makes. He is attempting to turn those items into collective risks, investments, and skills so he/the government can own them, and then in turn, own the profits from every private business. He is betting that the societal leeches, those who disparage the entrepreneurs are jealous enough to bring Mitt Romney down, all for a piece of the pie they didn’t earn.

  • dba…vagabond trader

He cannot take the heat. Challenge him every single day and watch the meltdown.

  • Liberal

First of all, anyone who actually think The President of the United States is against small business, is frankly an idiot. If you compare Mitt to Obama, it is pretty clear to see which canidate is pro small business. Remind me again, which canidate had billions of dollars stored in bank accounts outside of the United States? Also, which one helped ship thousands of jobs overseas when he was governor? Lastly, which canidate still refuses to release his income taxes? Let’s just say, it is NOT Obama.

Anyways, look at the whole quote in context, not just the quick sound bite Mitt wants you to hear. Be a free thinking individual and break away from the Republican Mindwash and look for the real facts. And frankly, anyone who claims to be a selfmade man is lying. Think about it. A business would need a location to actually do bussiness. To buy said building, you may need a loan from the bank. We all know how loans work, correct? I do not have to go into to much detail into the fact that the money you receive from the loan belongs to other people who use said bank. Right off the bat, you are receiving assistance. Also, how would you ship your products without a federally funded mail service? Even if you made your own deliveries, wouldn’t you need the assistance of roads build with federal money?

That is why, before you make claims about something someone said, make sure you actually understand what he said. Is that too difficult?

  • Liberal

    @post number #63

Really? Hmmm…. Does George W. Bush ring a bell? The man who took us from an economic surplus to a ten trillion dollar deficit with an added 3.6 trillion added after Obama deregulated some of the deficit that Bush tried to keep hidden from public view?

For someone who claims to have studied history, I think you skimmed over quite a bit.
