Muppets Dump Chick-fil-A Over Christian Values & Gay Marriage

Muppets dump Chick Fil-A over Christian values

(NY Times)

The Muppets dumped Chick Fil-A this week for not supporting gay marriage and for their traditional Christian message.
World Net Daily reported:

The Jim Henson Co., owner of the widely promoted Muppets characters, says it won’t be working with Chick-fil-A any more based on the statement of Christian faith from the restaurant chief that he does not endorse homosexual marriage.

“The Jim Henson Company has celebrated and embraced diversity and inclusiveness for over 50 years and we have notified Chick-Fil-A (sic) that we do not wish to partner with them on any future endeavors,” said a Facebook statement from the company. “Lisa Henson, our CEO, is personally a strong supporter of gay marriage and has directed us to donate the payment we received from Chick-Fil-A (sic) to GLAAD [ a homosexual promotion organization].”

…The dispute developed after Dan Cathy, the chief of Chick-fil-A, which was begun by his father, Truett Cathy and now is a $4 billion-plus a year business, recently gave an interview to The Baptist Press and said, “We are very much supportive of the family – the biblical definition of the family unit. We are a family-owned business, a family-led business, and we are married to our first wives. We give God thanks for that.”

The Henson company, which had been working with Chick-fil-A on a promotion of kids toys for kids meals, then erupted with what one outspoken traditional marriage supporter described as “fundamental intolerance of Christians.”

That’s from Peter LaBarbera, of Americans for Truth, who advocates for traditional marriage and defends against the attacks on Christian beliefs that come from homosexual activists.

Just last year the Muppets released a movie that promoted a left-wing agenda. The movie even featured bad-guy oilman Tex Richman, the evil capitalist and oilman.

We embrace and celebrate diversity and inclusiveness toward all those people who AGREE with us! Damnation to all those who are close minded and have a different world view! Amen!

For a kid service provider, Muppet’s is remarkably intolerant of Christians. I have not seen a Muppet show in years, maybe the purpose of the intolerance is publicity by kicking Christians. But that would suggest that the Muppet’s are crass commercial intolerant, not just intolerant.

  • StandUpChuck

Think I will go eat at Chick-fil-a for lunch today. Usually dont because they are more pricey than most but I commend Dan Cathy for standing up for what he believes. Let those who disagree boycott, the rest of us will continue to patronize CFA. I know many people who work for CFA and have met Truett once, these people stand up for their values and dont compromise.

Curious that the Jim Henson Co does not have a contact link on their website. I was going to call them out on their intolerance.

  • Gail

Never been to a Chick-fil-a. You can bet your sweet ass I am going now!

The Muppets have been indoctrinating homosexual marriage onto unsuspecting toddlers since broadcasting Bert and Earnie…>

Now watch how quickly the government media fascists sitting in their government cubicles … monitoring the internet for PC violation postings on your tax dime…lash out in some angry mocking troll beat down of what I just said.

No chick-fil-a near me, deep in blue country. Sigh. Should I be in the neighborhood where one exists, I will go out of my way to patronise the establishment.

Secrets of Communism (by any other name)

Murder by Communism (by any other name)

[But communists could not be wrong. After all, their knowledge was scientific, based on historical materialism, an understanding of the dialectical process in nature and human society, and a materialist (and thus realistic) view of nature. Marx has shown empirically where society has been and why, and he and his interpreters proved that it was destined for a communist end. No one could prevent this, but only stand in the way and delay it at the cost of more human misery. Those who disagreed with this world view and even with some of the proper interpretations of Marx and Lenin were, without a scintilla of doubt, wrong. After all, did not Marx or Lenin or Stalin or Mao say that. . . . In other words, communism was like a fanatical religion. It had its revealed text and chief interpreters. It had its priests and their ritualistic prose with all the answers. It had a heaven, and the proper behavior to reach it. It had its appeal to faith. And it had its crusade against nonbelievers.

What made this secular religion so utterly lethal was its seizure of all the state’s instrument of force and coercion and their immediate use to destroy or control all independent sources of power, such as the church, the professions, private businesses, schools, and, of course, the family.]

Ah geez! Now stuffed animals want to set moral standards. As a Christian, I find Henson’s stance morally reprehensible! Wonder how he’d react if it were the muslims making the same position Hmmmmm?

  • kato

Never been to a Chick Fil-A, but I’m going to start eating there.

Actually, I’ve heard the food is very good.

  • Restless

Hmm. Interesting how their alleged “diversity and inclusiveness” is NOT inclusive of Christian viewpoints.
“We are liberal and open-minded and tolerant, and we love and respect a diversity of lifestyles and viewpoints… unless you disagree with us. Then we hate you.”

  • I will frequent their establishment now that I realize they are on the right side of reason.

People of the same gender cannot marry. To suggest the opposite is insane.

Sounds like Muppets producers are bigoted, narrow minded and hateful Christophobes, Islamophobes and heterophobes.

The secret love that dare not speak it’s name has become the love that won’t shut the hell up!

  • This has been going on for so many years now in children’s programming… you know, the whole “get the children and you have the future” thing…

As a Granny and child sitter, I dumped ‘the muppets’ as well as all pbs programming a long time ago… as a Christian, I will stand up for and pray for anyone who is persecuted because of their faith… and as a meat eater, I will make a point to eat at Chick-fil-A from here forth.

    Luv Chick-fil-A!!!
Our town’s Chick-fil-A was destroyed in the May tornado. It was rebuildt and the grand opening was amazing. Dan Truit came out and had a private dinner opening for the owners, managers, their families and builders. Gave a wonderful speach and thank you to Joplin and how hard everyone worked. Not a dry eye in the house. Then he REFUSED anyone in Joplin to serve. He flew in staff to cook and HE HIMSELF served each person in the restaurant that night. How do I know this? My neighbors are owners!!! That said, eat up folks, its a great company to customers, owners and their families!!! God Bless the American dream!

  • Jerry C

I am waiting for the day when the Muppets will air a segment featuring young children preparing themselves for jihad.

Muppet-“What do you want to do when you grow up?”
    child-“Kill jews & christians!”
Muppet-“Very good!. But first we must destroy the leftists & homosexuals! No one can trust a traitor.”

Muppets can bite me. Love live Chick fil-A!

  • Mary

Going to give my four teenagers my credit card and tell them to go get lunch at chick-fil-A, which they love anyway. I’m going to tell them why I am doing this today. We must not tolerate those who want to take away our freedom of speech and religion.

  • Patty

Wouldn’t it be nice if America would respect each others convictions when it comes to Religious beliefs.

Seems America is respecting the Muslim view on their beliefs.

“Christian faith from the restaurant chief that he does not endorse homosexual marriage.”

This gentleman has been a part of creating millions of jobs. He has lived the American Dream and what is so sad about this is, he is America, he deserves respect and he has closed his business every Sunday from the Conception.

““The Jim Henson Company has celebrated and embraced diversity and inclusiveness for over 50 years”

Well, Chic-fil-a has their beliefs, also and it I was putting by money on one party or the other, it would be on Traditional Values and Christian Beliefs.

On August first those who share my opinion, please go and buy some Chick-fil-a and continue to support them. Our nation came to this place not overnight, it has been like Mount Helens, it erupts every so often but is passes.

Sadly, because of this nation’s attitudes in past years towards everything, there will always be slings and arrows. But Chick-fil-a will forge ahead because the are a Christian organization and they will emerge the better.

Mike Huckabee Launches ‘Support Chick-fil-A Day’ for Aug. 1, 2012

[…..]Chick-fil-A’s stores are closed on Sundays and the company, he said, “operate[s] on biblical principles.” The media storm grew larger when a June 16 radio program was spotlighted in which Cathy underscored the need for children to have a mom and a dad.

“As it relates to society in general, I think we are inviting God’s judgment on our nation when we shake our fist at Him and say, ‘We know better than You as to what constitutes a marriage,'” Cathy said on “The Ken Coleman Show.” “I pray God’s mercy on our generation that has such a prideful, arrogant attitude to think that we would have the audacity to try to redefine what marriage is all about.”

The company issued a statement Thursday (July 19) telling its customers that “going forward, our intent is to leave the policy debate over same-sex marriage to the government and political arena” and that its tradition is “to treat every person with honor, dignity and respect — regardless of their belief, race, creed, sexual orientation or gender.” It also noted it has applied “biblically-based principles” to business management and will continue to do so.

  • There was a Chic-Fil-A that recently opened. Great food and great atmosphere, I would love to exchange the McDonald’s that is closer to my house for it! Anyway, when I took my kids there I was at first not concentrating on the music in the restaurant. Then I realized it was Gospel music! We usually eat at the restaurants where you are waited on but I, like others think it may be a good time for lunch there.

  • Patty

This is another business owner who has created many jobs and with the public opinion of today and this administration, isn’t it odd that the Liberals want to pile on.

Sickening and repulsive. That is the way the liberal activists love to play.

  • Patty

If this nation’s business owners care for the children they will honestly and faithfully continue their endeavors to make sure they aren’t affected by the bias and the hate that adults are creating.

This is the real sad part about the whole thing. God help us.

Another good reason to stop funding public broadcasting.

Anyone else out there scared about what our children are watching? How ’bout dumping the tv in the trash and going’ to get some chicken strips and a home-spun shake? Food for thought…if all the world were homosexual, there would be no children, and no need for muppets (unless you’re a rather strange adult who enjoys such programming)…just sayin’…

When sesame street first started all the toddlers learned their ABCs and a year or two later the teachers union went nuts because they came to kindergarten already knowing the next two years teaching goals of the schools. Soon the program was altered to teach socialism and useless stuff.

  • nelle

OK, I need me some Chik fil-A. Never needed it before, but now I do. Those muppets are advertising geniuses.

  • Great chicken sandwich from Chick-fil-a for lunch. Was given a coupon for my daughter that reads “Please forgive our Lack of Toys This coupon Entitles you to a FREE KIDS ICE DREAM”

  • Hugh

Not sure why they would have partnered with the Muppet group in the first place–not really a good fit if you ask me. Sesame Street is very PC. No loss. Who cares.

  • stuart

I liked the cows Chick-fil-a promotional better anyway.
    Eet mor chikken!

  • They need to partner with Veggie Tales! 😀

Lisa Henson, who did absolutely nothing to create the empire she inherited, is just a lucky zygote. see how bitter these leftist have become? you must conform to their view, which is facism and/or totalitarianism just defund government contributions to pbs after the nxt election…vote for consevatives in november. michele obama and the government agencies have their hooks in pbs…every advertisement you see supporting pbs is of a black family situation ior overstuffed with minorities. not long before two husbands show up as standard characters…just give them up. too much available for kids today to be a slave to muppets propaganda and support lazy leftist lunatics like lisa henson.

  • Greg

So let me get this straight. You folks are appalled because you feel HensonCo is discriminating against Chic Fil A? And you’re disgusted that they are being so close-minded, which you find hateful and intolerant? Is that about the size of it?

Hmm. Apparently, American freedom of choice is only for certain special folks.

  • keithofboston

Ah facism rears it’s ugly foam rubber head. Wacka, Wacka

  • MamaGriz68

Does anyone really pay attention to the Muppets anymore? Elmo seems to be the only recognizable one anymore, especially since they did away with Kermit. I very carefully allowed my kids to watch Sesame Street over the last few years, but in the last 6 months stopped because the indoctrination and liberalism was so blatant. Wish I could get some videos of Mr. Rogers!

  • greenfairie

When I was growing up in the ’70s and ’80s, the Muppets were huge. I watched “The Muppet Show.” I saw “The Muppet Movie.” There’s a part of my Gen Xer heart that still loves Kermit, Miss Piggy, Fozzie, Gonzo, etc.. To his credit, the late Jim Henson never got involved with these kinds of controversies and kept things kid-friendly. But it seems to me the people who run things now are more interested in toeing the Hollywood line and pleasing gay activists (I wasn’t aware the Muppets were so important to the LGBT&Extra Mayo crowd) than anything else.

Chik-Fil-A doesn’t refuse to serve gays, it doesn’t segregate them, and it doesn’t prohibit gays from working for the company. It does not advocate beating or killing gays. The guy who runs the company simply has his opinion on an issue and it’s based on his religious beliefs. Gay activists don’t have to like that opinion, they don’t have to eat there. Lisa Henson doesn’t have to partner with Chik-Fil-A. But the atmosphere we’re creating, that a man’s personal opinion must be harshly punished by those who disagree is frightening and un-American. The Muppets in the process became a social issue football, something Jim Henson would never have wanted, and now social cons/Christians are going to boycott them.

  • owl

May I suggest that if you have any Muppet crap in your home, throw it away or better yet, burn it. Eliminate all traces.

I watched Huckabee do an interview with Chik founder. Huck said that everyone needs to grab a sandwich on Wed. I agree.

  • l.barney

I am 40 and I have see the old muppet movies from the 80’s) and frankly these so called pc imposters are not MY muppets!

  • Rob

Of course they’re for gay marriage. What else would you expect from people who stick their hands up a puppet’s butt every day?

  • Mama Grizzly

#47: Mr. Rogers is now available on iTunes. All of the seasons. People have been pestering PBS for YEARS to release, but I think they were holding onto the program because of his message: “boys are boys from the beginning, girls are girls right from the start, everybody’s fancy, everybody’s fine, your body’s fancy and so is mine . . .” Not too PC, according to the “correct politics” of the Left.

Anyway, from CFA’s statement, I don’t see how they’re down on gay people. If gays can support their relationships, why can’t heterosexuals support and promote theirs? Is it just a one-way street, then?

Militant gays have a lot of rage and a lot of money. Their discretionary income is much much higher than families, so they have a lot of political clout–which is why the Dems court them. Some of it is about sexuality and the purposeful break down of society, which allows the commies to set up shop, but more of it is about the money they can spend politically.

  • Jerry C

@ #45 Greg-“So let me get this straight. You folks are appalled because you feel HensonCo is discriminating against Chic Fil A? Greg, HensonCo has a right to not eat at Chick-Fil-A. When they organize a campaign to run Chick-Fil-A out of business because they don’t agree, then that crosses the line. But I digress, liberalism is a mental disease. Looks like you, Greg, have it bad.

Chic-Fil-A and Henson’s company worked out the legalities and formalities of this decision long before Henson’s company issued today’s press release.
If you were a real journalist you would have found this out instead of just rehashing someone else’s story…
Kids were getting there fingers stuck in the toys…

especially in the past few years, what a difference..

anyways, i’m just hoping and praying they go out of
business before my great grandchild gets hooked on

Our sons were deprived. Very little Sesame Street, no Mr. Rogers, very little telly watching at all. Books. They read, we read. We talked, played board games, baseball, football, tag, hide-and-go-seek when they were tots. Drew pictures, painted, colored. I think children today spend too much time staring at the telly or some stupid video game. Not enough interaction with their parent(s).

I cannot see anywhere where “boycotting” is biblical. Even Paul questioned eating food that was unclean while witnessing to the Gentiles and that’s when he had the dream where God proclaimed that all food was clean and nothing entering the body could damage the temple. I didn’t want to bore you guys with a sermon so here’s my point. What message are we sending as Christians when we bash nonbelievers? Our main purpose (again I stress) as Christians is to share the love of God and preach salvation. Who cares about Henson pulling away from CFA who cares that Target supports gay marriage? What do we get by being intolerant to nonbelievers that don’t know any better? We were just as ignorant. So yes again I will shop at Target and eat at CfA and watch Fraggle Rock with my son. This world doesn’t concern us and the rest of these issues are petty. I support what CfA is doing and I back them 100% but just because I disagree with the opposing side I have the freedom to chose. Now when that opposing side forces me to do something I see as sin then I will not back down and I will stand up for my beliefs. Chose your battlefields.

  • Astria

I like the Muppets/Sesame Street. If this is what Ms. Henson wants to do than what can I say. I will stop watching the Muppets/Sesame Street I will no longer purchase the Henson products and what ever else they are affiliated with. See that wasn’t hard at all. 🙂
    Have a Jesus Day!!!!!
