Obama Administration Tells Marines to Leave Weapons Outside Tent For Panetta’s Speech

This is what you call a trust deficit.

US Marines were told to leave their weapons outside the tent during Leon Panetta’s speech today.

Obama officials are “getting itchy.” The administration asked US Marines today to leave weapons outside of the ten

The New York Times

“In a sign of the nervousness surrounding Mr. Panetta’s trip, the Marines and other troops who were waiting in a tent for the defense secretary to speak were abruptly asked by their commander to get up, place their weapons — M-16 and M-4 automatic rifles and 9-mm pistols — outside the tent and then return unarmed. The commander, Sgt. Maj. Brandon Hall, told reporters he was acting on orders from superiors.

“All I know is, I was told to get the weapons out,” he said. Asked why, he replied, “Somebody got itchy, that’s all I’ve got to say. Somebody got itchy; we just adjust.”

Normally, American forces in Afghanistan keep their weapons with them when the defense secretary visits and speaks to them. The Afghans in the tent waiting for Mr. Panetta were not armed to begin with, as is typical.”

Another example of the wuss Obama regime

Did Bush or Rumsfeld fear the troops fragging them? No wonder Hussein never visits.

Insanity on display in real time is a sad thing to witness.

No adults in positions of responsibllity in the room to say “No.”??

  • SeniorD

Really? Telling a Marine to leave their weapons outside? Doesn’t this Regime understand the concept of “Every Marine a rifleman”?

How many of those attending were ‘mandatorily volunteered?

  • Jenny

They seem to think they have reason to worry. I wonder what they think they’ve done that would cause the troops to use their weapons?

  • Justice Beaver

Doesn’t jugears “generally” trust our troops? Or is he practicing disarmament for the rest of us later on?

  • EBL

Of course, if a Marine was wanting to kill the Sec of Defense I am sure he would comply with such an order? How insulting can they be?

  • Peckerwood

So now everyone knows we have a room full of unarmed Marines… Brilliant.

Hey Taliban, the front guard at the base takes a crap at 0200- 0205, just in case you didn’t know…

My disdain for this regime is reaching a boiling point. I think I’ll draft a harshly worded letter…

On an earlier thread about the Afghan murderer, I speculated that the troops in that theater might be close to rebellion because of the ridiculous ROIs. I suspect that I am not the only one to be thinking along those lines. It seems to me that conditions in Afghanistan may be a lot more strained that is generally appreciated here in the States.

  • Robert

This just about says it all. The administration does not trust the people it sends out to participate in the PC debacle in Afghanistan.

And the military bureaucracy is among the worst of governmental bureaucracies. Some idiot in the Pentagon could have decided that since the Afghans were not armed then our people could not be armed either. The suits and military politicians that function as the supposed command would go right along with that.

We can all agree that the administration is terrible at commanding the troops. That the military itself is just as inept and even worse in some respects is not quite as widely accepted.

I wonder when, or if, we will hear any more about what happened last week.

  • srdem65

This is shocking! Were they afraid that someone would shoot the Sec of Defense?

  • Frank H

The only reasonable explanation I can think of for this (and it really isn’t all that reasonable), is that they figured that if (when?) an Afghan takes a shot, there will be no question as to whether it might have been one of our guys.

  • RickS

And Sgt. Maj. Hall was definitely not their commander. Command Sergeant Major maybe. Is there no one at the Times (or any other news outlet) anymore who has even a passing familiarity with the military?

  • Remco Kimber

My guess is that this administration KNOWS how the American people really feel about this guy and his gauleiters.

  • Fionnagh

This is how William Wallace’s (Braveheart’s) father and brother died – when called to a clan meeting, they too left their weapons outside, only to be massacred within. This sort of treachery goes back thousands of years. It is even in the Odyssey.

Not really on topic, but these were the first thoughts to cross my mind…

  • donh

What about the metal chairs and the spear tipped flag poles ?

  • Mannie

This was reportedly ordered by USMC Maj. Gen. Mark Gurganus. If I were POTUS (be afraid, be very afraid) and heard about this, a certain major general would be standing in front of my desk with his heels locked, explaining why he shouldn’t be demoted to latrine orderly on Kiska.

    The PC War in Afghanistan:

Bureaucrat 1:”Hey, isn’t Panetta getting ready to talk to the troops?”

2: “Yeah, they’re checking the Afghans right now.”

    1: “Checking the Afghans?”

2: “Yeah, dummy. The tribals can’t have any weapons in there, you know that.”

    1: “Oh, yeah.”

1: “Hey wait a minute, our guys have guns in there.”

    2: “So?”

    1: “So that’s discrimination.”

2: “Gee you’re right. After all, we’re all the same, right?”

2: “Quick, draft something up and I’ll run down the hall and get it signed.”

1: “OK. Just think, after 16 years here, we can finally make a difference.”

General Bureaucrat 1: “This is great, who thought of this? Here, transmit this immediately. It will look great on my resume. Where’s my mirror?”

    Regretting choosing to defend you

Add to all of that the sovereign indifference of the regular American to ignore the fate of our men, who right now may be bitterly regretting having abandoned life with their families and children, and being where they are, in the middle of savages, fighting a horrible enemy, and the treason-prone line of their high command.

Ingratitude to people who are sacrificing not only their lives but also the lives of their loved ones, can only be a curse for all those who have no conscience and no guts to stand up for what’s right.
    Charges of High Treason

High treason is defined as criminal disloyalty to one’s government. Participating in a war against one’s native country, attempting to overthrow its government, spying on its military, its diplomats, or its secret services for a hostile and foreign power… may be among the best known examples of high treason. High treason requires that the alleged traitor have obligations of loyalty in the state he or she -or they- betrayed…

IF Obama and his administration and the people’s representatives decide to execute our soldier to the death penalty it will be time for Americans to let the Obama administration that it is not acceptable. And independent doctors must be part of a thorough medical assessment on his health condition, prior to any trial whatsoever. After all, no administration, republican or democrat, has ever executed any Muslim terror planner…
So, death penalty -yes, but for those who ally with the enemy to bring down our nation and destroy it. And we know in which direction to look. Reality speaks for itself…

Time for good men to triumph over evil

America has fought many wars, in far away countries, for forlorn peoples and their causes…

The time for Real-Americans to come forward is now, when our men are being sacrificed by the Nero of our modern times… It’s time to wake up and take our fate in our hands. It’s time to move forward.

If, God forbid, good men would choose to do “nothing”… then, truth be told, History will remember contemporary Americans as cowards, unworthy of those heroes who are risking their lives and their families to defend them.

Sad to say so. But that would be the truth.

    Obama against America

While American people continue in their attempt to hide from an endless deteriorating reality, yesterday breaking news brought that president Hussein Obama takes “the killing of Afghan civilians by a deranged gunman as seriously as if it were our own citizens and our own children who were murdered.” Furthermore, Defense Secretary Leon Panetta said the death penalty is a consideration as the military moves to investigate and possibly put the soldier suspected in the mass killings on trial.
» If you like this article, please subscribe to Right Side News Daily

So, they are calling the American soldier who most certainly has been under duress and utmost stress, “a deranged gunman?” And they are now telling us that they consider “Afghan civilians… as if they were our own citizens and our own children?”

No, they are most certainly, not our citizens and most certainly they are NOT our children. We have nothing in common. Period.

From these statements, it should be obvious to all American patriots that Obama and his people are going grandly insaner by the day. And, regardless of elections, we must demand that Obama and his whole administration, including the people’s representatives who are doing nothing in front of so many blatant attacks against the American Constitution be all tried for High Treason.

Obama and his administration have not hesitated to remove all mention from FBI documents that the 19 Muslim terrorists who perpetrated the 9/11 massacres against our innocent thousands of civilians, belonged to Islam -thus whitewashing the fact that their religion orders them to wage jihad for world domination and, ultimately, to kill whoever opposes Islam.

On Thursday, February 9th, Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel called for the Illinois General Assembly to pass a $65 per handgun fee to be levied against every law-abiding gun owner in Illinois – INCLUDING YOU. Of course, gang bangers, murderers, robbers and rapists are exempt from the fee. This fee would be charged every 5 years on every handgun you own. Additionally, you would have to register with the government in the same manner as sex-offenders.

If Rahm Emanuel’s gun tax passes, you will be required to pack up your handguns and take them to the local police station for examination and registration. If you have 10 handguns to bring in, you’ll walk out paying $650 in taxes. If you own 100 handguns, the government will lighten your wallet to the tune of $6,500. And, you’ll have to repeat this process every 5 years – unless Emanuel and his buddies in the legislature bump this up to an ANNUAL FEE.

If you cannot pay the $65 tax on EACH of your handguns, you will have to surrender your guns to the local police for destruction.

If you decide not to pay the tax, the police will come to your house and take your guns away. They will also arrest you and charge you with a CLASS 2 FELONY.

Disarming our troops worked out well for those murdered at Fort Hood, didn’t it? Are these people so stupid that they thought that disarming our own troops would be a good idea in case an Afghani decided he didn’t like what Panetta was saying?

  • texas

Grrr, can this Administration be any more insulting to the Troops? This is a clear display of how this regime does not understand our Military. (or trust them)

I say bring the Troops home. We need a President in office that can be a true Commander in Chief.

    This is disgraceful!!

  • SeniorD

Another thought regarding the reason for telling Marines to leave their weapons outside:

The Hussein Obama Regime doesn’t want ANYONE to have firearms. If they tell Marines to leave them outside, they can tell EVERYONE to turn their weapons in ‘for safe keeping’.

Now what was that old saying about taking guns and cold dead fingers?

  • This is direct insult to our men and women in uniform…..Have several friends who have sons in military they both told me that thier sons will not relist if Obama is re-elected once their time is up…can’t say i blame them….

Wanumba #21 I do not underestimate the self discipline of our soldiers. In fact I will readily admit that this generation of soldiers is far better than those of my generation. We were all draftees, or , in my case, an enlisted refugee from the draft. But I speak from personal experience. When the ROIs that I was forced to deal with in Viet Nam became to onerous, we simply ignored them. Self preservation is a powerful motivation. When, on occasion, the ROIs were enforced with too much enthusiasm my outfit simply disobeyed those orders, or engineered a workaround. And I might add that our ROIs were nowhere near as restrictive as those of today.
I have the highest respect for our soldiers in Afghanistan, but I do know human nature.

Panetta says massacre will not deter Afghan mission

[In an earlier incident, a motorcycle bomb blast in Kandahar city that
killed an Afghan intelligence soldier and wounded two others, as well
    as a civilian.

A roadside bomb also killed eight civilians in southern Helmand province,
where Panetta began a two-day visit by meeting with U.S. and coalition
forces at two bases, Afghan provincial officials said.

Panetta told soldiers at Camp Leatherneck, the main U.S. Marine
    base in the volatile area.]

  • Joanne

This is because Panetta knows that he is committing and supporting treason. Panetta knows that the only authority to allow the U.S. military to go to war is Congress, and not Obama alone. There are special circumstances for the POTUS to authorize to go to war, and that is when the U.S. is actually being attacked. This is a sign of guilt. They know what they are doing folks, and they know it is treasonous. They are also trying to say that they do not trust the U.S. military.

  • GotFreedom

Is the military still allowing “locals” to work inside our bases over there? It’s our understanding that they work at the base by day; fight with the bad guys against our troops by night!

What if they had been attacked while in that “stupid” meeting? If Panetta wants to meet with the “big wigs” over there and tell them to leave their weapons outside–fine–but it was irresponsible to put our troops in harms way by making them leave their weapons outside with no way to defend themselves if there had been an attack.

I think the troops should leave because Obama is using the Afghan war to discredit our troops and use the whole thing as an excuse to “fundamentally transform” the US Military. Nothing is what it seems (at first, to most people). If the US is not going to go into a country, win, occupy, force changes in their constitutional structure, etc. as was done in Germany and Japan, then it’s a “wait it out” game, and the indigenous will win. They’ll wait until we leave and reinstitute everything. Just watch and see what the Taliban do when we leave, for example.

I agree that disarming a roomful of our best Marines in an enemy enclave (even at the base) is about as stupid as you can get. Or is it?

THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT! I just spoke to my loved one about this. He is in a position to speak to the generals on the ground. Here is what he said: The Marine general (I forgot to write down his name) did this as a SIGN OF RESPECT FOR HIS AFGHAN COUNTERPARTS, who are not allowed to carry weapons into the meeting. This was intentional and typical of the way our Marines operate.

Now (as a journalist) what I can extrapolate: Someone at the New York Times who wrote this story and characterized this incident is either a lazy SOB and never bothered to talk to anyone in the know OR they intentionally tried to make our Marines appear dangerous to the SecDef, manufacturing some kind of story to further a leftist agenda or to provoke controversy.

Ya’ll should consider all this. While NY Times asshat reporters and editors are trying to embellish and spin, our Marines are in harms way, continuing to put themselves at risk by leaving their weapons at the door, as they continue to carry out their mission. PLEASE, LET’S GIVE THEM CREDIT FOR THIS AND REMEMBER THAT WE SHOULD NEVER TRUST THE MAINSTREAM MEDIA until we know the whole story. If anyone bothered, they could confirm this with CentCom. But no one will.

I don’t think we’ve heard the end of this story.

SLX Tix, I’m right there with you, but the guys on the ground are trying to do a job, walking a fine line. Until things change at the VERY top, they’re stuck, and that’s why they’re depending on us to vote Obama and his policies out (especially since the dems try so hard not to count their votes).

At the same time, it does them a disservice to mis-report this story. Did you see that reporter from MSNBC? He was so shrill on this story, there was all kinds of speculation. The question is, WHY would the media want to perpetuate this myth (possibly to distract us from Obama’s appalling poll numbers this week?)

Point is, the Marines can handle all this — all of it. But we need to take care of the media and hold their feet to the fire. All they had to do is ask an official what was up.

@Patty: “Obama takes ‘the killing of Afghan civilians by a deranged gunman as seriously as if it were our own citizens and our own children who were murdered.’”

Yup, just as seriously as the FedGuv took it after Waco and Ruby Ridge.
