It’s an Obama world.

Obama mocks drilling for oil – pushes green algae instead

Barack Obama admitted Thursday that he didn’t have any clear solutions to the surging gas prices. However, he did propose using algae to bring down the price.
The Examiner reported:

“We’re making new investments in the development of gasoline, diesel, and jet fuel that’s actually made from a plant-like substance, algae — you’ve got a bunch of algae out here,” Obama said at the University of Miami today. “If we can figure out how to make energy out of that, we’ll be doing alright. Believe it or not, we could replace up to 17 percent of the oil we import for transportation with this fuel that we can grow right here in America.”

And, Investor’s Business Daily reported yesterday on the biggest lies from Obama’s energy speech. Here’s one:

The U.S. consumes more than a fifth of the world’s oil. But we only have 2% of the world’s oil reserves.”

Fact: Obama constantly refers to this statistic to buttress his claim that “we can’t drill our way to lower gas prices.” The argument goes that since the U.S. supply is limited, it won’t ever make a difference to world prices.

Subscribe to the IBD Editorials Podcast It’s bogus. New exploration and drilling technologies have uncovered vast amounts of recoverable oil.

In fact, the U.S. has a mind-boggling 1.4 trillion barrels of oil, enough to “fuel the present needs in the U.S. for around 250 years,” according to the Institute for Energy Research. The problem is the government has put most of this supply off limits.

  1. “If we can figure out how to make energy out of that, we’ll be doing alright”

what a dillusional idiot…the mooslum has no clue how economics works….but he sure knows how to destryo a country

  2. you’ve got a bunch of algae out here,” Obama said at the University of Miami today. “If we can figure out how to make energy out of that

I’ve been working on that, and I should have something for you by next Monday. I just need a loan of $5 trillion dollars to build the prototype.

  3. Pondscum presidency.

    Perfect legacy for this intruder.

  4. I’m all for making bio-fuel out of pond scum. Let’s start with the progressive economic terrorist. After a fair trial of course.

  5. Delaying rhetoric. Just yaddah yaddah to delay people reacting as he consolidates his defenses.

  6. In 2009, Obama told us the nation’s fuel crisis could be solved by checking our tire pressure.

Three years, later, we’re paying $4 a gallon.

    Tire pressure then.

    Algae now.

    He has no clue.

  7. LOL the more he speaks the more he lets his supporters know he’s an idiot.

Gotta be hard trying to support a self absorbed idiot.

Many absolutely have given up on him. November will be a landslide.

    powder is dry

  8. off topic

Arlen Specter just threw Santorum under the bus.

After Santorum stuck his neck out to endorse Specter, who later switched parties, and had to defend it in the debate the other night saying he got assurances (or was it promises) from Arlen Specter about court nominations, Specter just went on CNN and said that conversation never happened.

    Wow.

  9. bambam is just reiterating what piglosi said about draining the swamp in d.c.!!!!

  10. We need a new president.

  11. Maybe President Obama should putting algae on his limosine. Let us see how that works. We need a new president Nov. 2012. “sigh”

  12. Threw him under the bus? Hell, the best thing that could happen to Rick Santorum’s campaign is for Arlen Specter to come out against him.

That photo of pond scum above is actually Arlen Specter. Turncoat liberal.

  13. The green algae deal is a Republican campaign commercial that just writes itself.

  14. i am sure he noted that algae requires lots of co2 to thrive

  15. Collapse the economy, destroy jobs, regulate to death, take from the rich to make us all dependent on the state, coopt the churches – all bow to the almighty state.

Educate, Organize, Agitate – this is the only plan Barry is following.

  16. anybody think these “green” people really don’t care about the enviroment, its just a ploy to undermine the economy of countries. after they are big supporters of marxism and the marxist countries are the biggest polluters in history and the “greens” never protest againist them. maybe the “greens” are really red.

  17. Sheesh! And after we power our vehicles, maybe in the future, we can eat the pond scum too. This Administration is flipping crazy!!!!!

Can we have a new President now?

  19. So in the near future a Republican gets in office and changes the law. We drill.

So what does he get out of this? What a dope.

  20. Start with the algae (pond scum) in the White House. Unlimited supply there.

  21. PIBill

    Sorry, that’s actually a fungus.

  22. 1. Grow Algae
    2. Watch algae spread to other sources
    3. Write new regulations covering everything including kiddie pools
    4. Dead cattle , birds , fish , and animals
    5. Lack of irrigation for farm land.
    6. Dead land
    7. Apply laws
    8. Make farmer pay $$$ until he’s broke.
    9. Take land
    10. Start a new algae farm.

  23. He’s trying to push Soylent-a-hol.

  24. Hasn’t anyone told Obama about magnets yet? Guaranteed to triple the MPG of combustion engines. Better yet, I understand the administration’s just hired a Perpetual Motion Czar who’s going to make even electricity obsolete.

Do you know how incredibly embarrassing it is to be an Obama supporter?

  25. What’s that bogus argument the leftards always use about drilling? That it wouldn’t do anything until 5-10yrs out? So he’s blocking real solutions that could be implemented today and instead his ‘solution’ is a sci-fi dream that is what, at least 20-25+ years out? Just more of the green hoax to enrich himself and his friends. How can anyone take this fool seriously? We don’t need a ‘new’ president, we need a REAL one, and fast!

    The clueless clown parade continues!

  26. How many of his crony friends will get billions of dollar of subsidies so President Obama can command a $35,000 per plate fundraising, huh?

  27. It’s them or us.

  28. “In fact, the U.S. has a mind-boggling 1.4 trillion barrels of oil, enough to “fuel the present needs in the U.S. for around 250 years,” according to the Institute for Energy Research. “

Yeah, but the important question is, how many barrels of strategic pond scum do we have in reserve?

  29. I think Barely teh SCOAMF realized the problem with solar cells. They aren’t actually green. But pond scum? Why yes, it’s green! You have to make green energy out of things that are green.

We’re lucky the intellectual giant that is Obama can stoop so low as to try to solve the problems us poor commoners.

  30. http://nation.foxnews.com/charles-krauthammer/2012/02/24/krauthammer-mocks-obama-s-algae-energy-plan

Krauthammer Mocks Obama Algae energy plan

BAIER: Charles, on the increase in production at home, Republicans counter that the drilling, the new drilling is largely because of deals struck in the Bush administration and that this administration has really not done all it could to expand energy, resource development here at home.

CHARLES KRAUTHAMMER, SYNDICATED COLUMNIST: That is absolutely right. And the other reason we have had this explosion of production has to do with the new technology, the horizontal drilling, again, something about which the administration has nothing to do.

But I was impressed by the president’s analysis of this situation where we have no control over the global price of oil. We’re depending on oil from unfriendlies. And he says, as we heard, drilling for oil to relieve our dependency is not a solution or a plan. He said we have to go to clean energy. He talks about something really revolutionary today, algae, a $14 million grant for the development of algae.

So it’s not oil. His solution is algae. And because we know the secretary of energy is physicist who won the Nobel Prize, the president, knowing all this stuff, said one reason we should do this is because we can grow algae here in the United States. It happens that algae will grow anywhere on earth. I looked it up while I was away for those three days.

    (LAUGHTER)

I did research. It grows in oceans, in lakes and ponds, you’re your swimming pool when the pool man is on vacation, on turtle, sloths, the bark of trees, and rocks. Why are we drilling for oil? We are the Saudi Arabia of rocks. We have a mountain range called the Rockies, and we are allowing ourselves to be dominated by the oil producers. I think he is on to something here that is truly revolutionary. Why build a keystone pipeline with real oil from Canada to put in real refineries and put in real existing cars when you can do algae? I think he is on to something. And I think this shows the vision, the hope and change he promised in 2008.

  31. I think he is on to something. And I think this shows the vision, the hope and change he promised in 2008.

And so it goes. Obama is OUT THERE, yet, voters did elect him. And Voters can un elect him.

  32. We ought to make this IDIOT eat this sh*t.

  33. all scum as bo now cum

  34. Listen to Newt – a voice of sanity – instead:

    http://legalinsurrection.com/2012/02/28-minutes-to-energy-independence/

This is the #1 issue for the campaign, in my opinion…handling it right will solve so many pressing problems. Hope this video gets wide, wide exposure.

No surprise this video is “no longer available”:

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED! Obama keeps a campaign promise; $5 gas comes to DC(Video)
    http://redwhitebluenews.com/?p=18669

  35. #9 MC – I really hope you are correct.

In the end I suspect this issue may hurt his re-election chances the most, since it is a very tangible, daily reminder right in most americans pocketbook as to how out of control things have become. The higher cost of fuel necessary to “run” a family is a direct trade off in terms of sacrificed pleasures, such as vacations. Should the Israelis choose to attack Iran sometime soon or close to the election, this will further exacerbate the already fragile market, driving prices higher. I would not put it past Bibi to time things appropriately. Just sayin.

Somewhat related, this article is worth a few minutes. Stunning…but not surprising.

    Tesla Motors’ Devastating Design Problem
    http://jalopnik.com/5887265/tesla-motors-devastating-design-problem

  36. Someone needs to tell Obama that petroleum IS algae oil.

From ancient algae beds covering entire states for hundreds of thousands of years.

  37. Just imagine if Palin or Bush had made a statement THIS dumb. Notice how if you google Obama and algae, not ONE Liberal news outlet is mentioning it? They keep circling the wagons tighter and tighter around their Idiot Messiah.

    Algae!

    Good Lord…

  38. The picture in this article is from china no doubt because due to many years the clean water act it is very hard to find pond scum in the USA. Pond scum can easily be grown but not without vast amounts of water to produce enough to supply 5% of our energy needs. Think of the giant swathes of land that would be needed because most of the growth takes place near the surface. How much water would be lost due to evaporation, to seepage? How many environmental impact studies studies would be required? How many projects would take years because of lawsuits claiming species were endangered? Remember obama found out that there were no shovel ready projects because of govt. red tape. Will we import pond scum oil from other countries?

  39. I forgot to add that you can not raise fish in the same pond because the process of scum growing uses most of the oxygen in the water and the fish go belly up. I saw this in a pond near Alpine Arizona. I am not a biologist but this is nothing new and a biologist would likely only strengthen my points.

  40. Oh my,

What happened to the WH swimming pool?

  41. I like to think green and go with the more environmentally friendly fuel.

A basic principle is that every dollar you spend on anything ultimately represents the natural resources expended in its manufacture.

Gasoline at $3.00 / gal vs. algae oil at $3.00 / gal ==> Algae oil expends 11 times the natural resources in its production.

I think I will go with the more environmentally friendly old style gasoline myself.

  42. Drat

algae oil at $33.00 / gal

Gasoline at $3.00 / gal vs. algae oil at $33.00 / gal ==> Algae oil expends 11 times the natural resources in its production.

  43. “The Martians have landed; the good news is they eat democrats. The OTHER good news is they piss gasoline!” This carries the same weight of truth as “Oil from Algae”! OIL FROM ALGAE!!!!Preposterous! Are these people insane? Why does EVERY “way out” consist of off-the-wall crazy uncle ideas that will NEVER be feasible, that only exist to suck $$ from the govt teat? Are they getting them from the back pages of Popular Mechanics? “Run your Car on H2O”Never buy electricity again!” This administration is populated by idiots, thru and thru.

  44. #30 #31

    Thanks for the laugh.

  45. Reminds me of Jonathan Swift’s proposal for the Irish famine.
