Occupy New Orleans protesters rally for socialism (Asian Conservatives)
Despite the Obama-endorsed #Occupy Wall Street protests and three years of Barack Obama, 60% of Americans still reject socialism.
The Pew Research Center reported:
The recent Occupy Wall Street protests have focused public attention on what organizers see as the excesses of America’s free market system, but perceptions of capitalism – and even of socialism – have changed little since early 2010 despite the recent tumult.
The American public’s take on capitalism remains mixed, with just slightly more saying they have a positive (50%) than a negative (40%) reaction to the term. That’s largely unchanged from a 52% to 37% balance of opinion in April 2010.
Socialism is a negative for most Americans, but certainly not all. Six-in-ten (60%) say they have a negative reaction to the word; 31% have a positive reaction. Those numbers are little changed from when the question was last asked in April 2010.
Of these terms, socialism is the more politically polarizing – the reaction is almost universally negative among conservatives, while generally positive among liberals. While there are substantial differences in how liberals and conservatives think of capitalism, the gaps are far narrower. Most notably, liberal Democrats and Occupy Wall Street supporters are as likely to view capitalism positively as negatively. And even among conservative Republicans and Tea Party supporters there is a significant minority who react negatively to capitalism.

The significant minority is the result of years of indoctrination in our nations public schools which had the leftists succeeded would be a significant majority. It will be to late to win their hearts and minds once socialism has captured their bodies in an oppressive state.

Too bad only 60% think socialism is a bad idea. Too bad millions of Americans have no idea that we are basically in a socialist society right now- and will vote for O’Dumbass anyway.
It really is insidious what public education has done to the masses in this country. It is even more insidious what the MSM reports as “news” in this country.

WTF? 31% are totally insane. It’s too bad that the MBM(make believe media) portray socialism in a favorable light. Mainly by using sparsely populated, homogeneous nations as examples, giving the illusion that any country of any size and diversity can accommodate such a system. Very disappointing.

Legitimate functions of goverment. Using tax dollars for studies on the affects of alcohol on chinese hookers is not a function of government. You do see the difference, right?
FurryGuy commented:
I suspect that a portion of the rejection is precisely BECAUSE of the OWS protests, not despite. The average person is strongly reminded of Barry’s (and the Left’s) agenda with this repeat of the 60′s/70′s free-loading anarchy.

Only 60%? This was my reaction too. There was a time when it would have been closer to 100%. It just goes to show that the intellectuals, the progressives, liberals, democrats, elitists and all other idiots do not have the intellectual capacity of one brain capable of elementary cognitive reasoning and functioning.

60% is an abysmally low number. Not at all encouraging.

Gallup poll: 42% say they are Conservatives, 21% say Liberals. But 37% call themselves Moderates, without specifying Moderately Liberal or Moderately Conservative. Think those are mostly true Liberals, not the Commie-Socialist “Liberals?”

Okay, I am not sure who I will vote for but here is a thought.
Americans can elect a radical socialist but not a Mormon.
Just a thought.
Patty commented:
As a political movement, socialism includes a diverse array of political philosophies, ranging from reformism to revolutionary socialism. Proponents of state socialism advocate for the nationalisation of the means of production, distribution and exchange as a strategy for implementing socialism. Social democrats advocate redistributive taxation and government regulation of capital within the framework of a market economy.[5]
Furthermore, the West views communism as being a state run by the government for the greater good of all the people. As for those who see the difference between communism and socialism in the West, they view socialism as being a state run by the government without regard for the individual, only the people collective.

As long as there are liberal judges and liberal professors and schools that indoctrinate our children there will be socialism.
Why is it that Capitalism and Individualism is so bad. Who in their right mind who want Socialism.
I suppose the Hollywood types would love socialism. But those who have worked hard and earned their money the right way and do in some respects spread their wealth by hiring competent workers love this Nation.
They aren’t socialists. They are the people who make this nation grow but as I said before it all boils down to what are kids are being taught. This has to do with a great many things that are going severely wrong in America.
Teachers, the right ones will help our future grow and be productive, the wrong teachers will pass a child off who is non productive and breaks the law. These are the Occupiers. These aren’t the 90% of America that wishes for a prosperous and excellent Nation.
