Locked out AFL-CIO union members in North Dakota are using racist slurs and hanging stuffed monkeys from a noose outside the American Crystal Sugar plant in North Dakota.
Chron.com reported:
Police say union supporters have directed racial slurs and racist symbols at replacement workers and security personnel outside an American Crystal Sugar plant in North Dakota.
Traill County Sheriff Mike Crocker says there have been racial statements made to security people outside of the company’s Hillsboro facility. He says he recently saw a monkey-like figure hanging from a noose attached to a large inflatable rat outside the plant. He says it was removed the next day.
The Grand Forks Herald reported Tuesday (http://bit.ly/oQfZWj) that many of the replacement workers are from Southern states, and some are minorities.
Union representative Mark Froemke calls the behavior “totally unacceptable” and says the union will not tolerate racism.

Buy as much American Crystal Sugar as your cupboards can hold.
I’m not a huge fan of American Crystal Sugar because of their stance/benefit from tarrifs, but as a company they offered a good contract in any economy. The union rejected a new contract 97% against to 3% approval, so Crystal Sugar locked them out. Crystal Sugar has been more than fair with what they offered.
The contract was for a 15% increase over 5 years, with a couple thousand dollar bonus upfront. The sticking point is the rising cost of healthcare (hmmm…did the AFL-CIO support obamacare), where the union workers will have to pay something for healthcare now (only if they have a family), and it’s still only a couple hundred bucks a month.
Many of the jobs are minimal skill where most learning is done through OJT, and many of the production jobs are about 40K annually salary, up to 60K when OT is included……this is not corporate greed, this is union greed.
