Newly elected Congressman Bob Turner from New York District 9 gave President Obama a shoutout during his victory speech:
“We’ve been asked to send a message to Washington… We’ve been told this is a referendum. Mr. President, we are on the wrong track.”
Turner won the bellwether election in a district where democrats have a 3-1 voter registration advantage over Republicans.
The AP reported:
Republicans have scored an upset victory in a House race that started as a contest to replace Rep. Anthony Weiner after he resigned in a sexting scandal but became a referendum on President Barack Obama’s economic policies.
Retired media executive and political novice Bob Turner defeated Democratic state Assemblyman David Weprin on Tuesday in the special election to fill the seat vacated by Weiner, a seven-term Democrat who resigned in June.
With more than 80 percent of precincts reporting, Turner had 54 percent of the vote to Weprin’s 46 percent in unofficial results.
“We’ve been asked by the people of this district to send a message to Washington,” Turner told supporters after the landmark win. “I hope they hear it loud and clear. We’ve been told this is a referendum. Mr. President, we are on the wrong track. We have had it with an irresponsible fiscal policy which endangers the entire economy.”
Weprin did not immediately concede.
The heavily Democratic district, which spans parts of Queens and Brooklyn, had never sent a Republican to the House. But frustration with the continued weak national economy gave Republicans the edge.
Turner has vowed to bring business practicality to Washington and push back on spending and taxes.
The race was supposed to be an easy win for Democrats, who have a 3-1 ratio registration advantage in the district.
Weprin, a 56-year-old Orthodox Jew and member of a prominent Queens political family, seemed a good fit for the largely white, working-class district, which is nearly 40 percent Jewish.
But voter frustration with Obama put Weprin in the unlikely spot of playing defense. A Siena Poll released Friday found just 43 percent of likely voters approved of the president’s job performance, while 54 percent said they disapproved. Among independents, just 29 percent said they approved of Obama’s job performance.

Debbie Wasserman has just informed us that this win by Turner is meaningless because the district is filled with Jews and they aren’t real people (apparently). This would back up the Obama position and explain his policy towards Israel.

Apparently within hours of your welcomed victory, I, a registered Republican from California, have a request.
When Mr. Obama presents his new Jobs Bill, I sincerely hope you will insist upon the inclusion of American citizens of Anglo- or Northern European decent, who may also speak English, as recipient employees of the Jobs Bill.
It is commonly known that English speaking Anglo-Americans and those of Northern European decent were de-facto excluded from hiring to clear the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, the BP Oil Spill, and other government funded programs. They were, and still are, excluded in favor of importing workers from Mexico and other countries.
Mr. Obama has stated his Bill entails plans for rehabilitating the American infrastructure and other public works projects. American citizens already mentioned should be included in the hiring pools at all levels. And I do hope you will do your utmost to insist upon their inclusion.

As for the liberal Jews turning against Obama, doubt it , at most, they just won’t vote at all over voting Repub. The Jews in this district are predominaatly Orthodox & usually favor the Republicans, they are conservative, pro-Israel & anti-Obama. Its more involved than Jewish people voting against Obama’s lack of support for Israel. Its a whole socio-economic issue where only a certain number of Jewish high school students are getting into the college of their choice thereby limiting the jobs they can seek upon graduation. There is a whole new level of middle class working Jews out there. Even though Jews are a distinct minority, they are not treated as a minority for purposes of scholarships, admissions and jobs unless they are female. As it gets worse, you will see huge number of Jews changing parties in an effort to be treated like other minorities. They have resisted in the past due to tremendous pride in doing for one’s self and not asking the government for anything. The tide has changed. Watch!
