Muslims furious over a head-scarf ban at Rye Playland got into a brawl with security yesterday. 15 people were arrested. The Rye Playland would not allow women in headscarves on certain rides due to safety concerns. This did not go over too well with the Muslims.

As upset families started lining up for refunds at the gate at around 2:30 p.m. after being informed of the scarf policy, they started fighting among themselves. This prompted parks guards to intervene, and things got only wilder as cops arrived.

The New York Post reported:

A group of Muslims furious over a head-scarf ban at Rye Playland got into a brawl with security yesterday that resulted in 15 arrests, authorities said.

Westchester officials who run the amusement park blamed the Queens tour operator who organized the outing celebrating the end of Ramadan, saying he failed to tell the 3,000 members of the Muslim American Society of New York who made the trip that, out of safety concerns, scarves are not permitted on some of the site’s most popular rides.
As irked families started lining up for refunds at the gate at around 2:30 p.m. after being informed of the policy, they started fighting among themselves, said county parks Deputy Commissioner Peter Tartaglia.

That prompted parks guards to intervene, and things got only wilder as cops arrived, witnesses said.

“[The guards] were beating down the girls, then they started beating down the guys” as they came to their aid,” Lola Ali, 16, of Queens, told the Journal News.

Sharif Aly, the lawyer for the Muslim American Society, which is based in Brooklyn, said, “There is a lot of misinformation out there.

“It was meant to be a day of celebration and community.”

Tartaglia said most of the people in the group were from Brooklyn.

    Oh, BTW, while Mo may have traipsed around the ancient world carrying a koran and a sword, neither of these, particularly the sword thingy, is allowed on the rides at Playland Park.

    Here’s the real Culprit. I see Muslim Women wearing Scarfs where I live. They are in grocery store by food for family, etc.

    Now, some rides I suppose could be very dangerous should a scarf be blown off.

    The owner of the track says he warned the woman it was not wise to wear the head dress.

Park admission may be denied if clothing is deemed by management to be inappropriate.

    Wonder if 6 Flags Great Adventure’s ‘Dress Code’ changes after this incident at Rye Playland since they too offer their own Muslim Family Day which is scheduled for September 16th from 10am to 10pm in NJ (several other 6 Flags locations offer it as well) .

    Since the Six Flags web site DOES NOT mention any safety concerns about hijabs or loose fabric or headgear on amusement park rides, one might want to reconsider their patronage, on any so called “Muslim family day” events &/or in any amusement park which permits a passenger to board with loose fabric on any other day, based on the increased potential for unnecessary risks imposed by lack of such considerations. Safety first.

    Seriously! Did you see how every one of the scarves shown hung down the back and front to a considerable degree. And several women were in long flowing robes also?

    I am just amazed that they couldnt figure that out for themselves.

    But here is the thing. Most of these people are perfectly convinced that there should be no situation where the scarf is not appropriate and no wholesome pleasure that a woman cannot enjoy while wrapped up like a mummy. If Allan wills women to wear it, then there can be no danger in wearing it.

    Oh and btw, women getting into a swimming pool with a burka on are having just as much fun as anyone else and they dont look stupid either. They are as modern as anybody you know. I actually saw a Muslim broad do that once. I was gobsmacked to say the least.

    In my mind you have to choose. Either the scarf and a life of restrictions or a fully modern and free life. One cannot have both.

    That’s not true, Qur’an (33:59, 24:31, 33:55). In addition there are a multitude of hadiths mandating coverings for post-pubescent females. “Islamic politics” means the requirement for coverings is an inseparable
    part of Fiqh, enforceable by Shari’a Law. Hence, it cannot be dismissed.

    This is very sad to me. I used to go to Rye Beach and the Rye Amusement Park with my parents when I was a kid. It was such a nice place.

    I have many fond memories of those days. Those days before we were invaded by the religion of peace.

    Why don’t they all just go back where they belong and leave us alone?

    No, it could harm another person. Each ride has different rules. My kid worked at 6 Flags and many rides there have such rules.

    If you cannot abide by the rules, do not ride. Mohammedans are supremacists. Not about equality with them.
