President Donald Trump told a packed crowd in Iowa on Sunday that Somalia has ruined Minnesota and that the United States does not want more of its people.
The president warned voters in other states, including Ohio, against allowing the same kind of concentrated migrant settlement.
“Somalia has ruined the State of Minnesota. We don’t want them,” Trump declared during a midterm rally two days before Election Day at Dubuque’s Five Flags Center.

Trump urged attendees to treat the vote as if he were on the ballot and to support Republicans up and down the ticket.
A Minnesota Star Tribune analysis of federal data found that more than 500 Somali immigrants living in Minnesota have received deportation orders so far in 2026, a nearly tenfold jump from 2025.
Nationwide, more than 1,000 Somali asylum-seekers have been ordered removed since February, thanks to “rocket docket” hearings, Trump ending Temporary Protected Status for Somalia, and broader ICE operations.
Trump delivered similar comments in December 2025, from the Oval Office.

“Look at their nation,” Trump said. “Look how bad their nation is. It’s not even a nation, it’s just people walking around killing each other. Look, these Somalians have taken billions of dollars out of our country. They’ve taken billions and billions of dollars.”
Trump did not hold back, telling Rep. Ilhan Omar to “go back to your own country.”
“Walz should be ashamed, that beautiful land, that beautiful state. It’s a hellhole right now. And the Somalians should be out of here. They’ve destroyed our country, and all they do is complain, complain, complain.”
“What the Somalian people have done to Minnesota is not even believable,” Trump continued. “It’s not even believable. And a lot of it starts with the governor. A lot of it starts with Barack Hussein Obama, because that’s when people started coming in, and you have to have people come in that are going to love our country, cherish our country. They want to kiss our country good night. They talk about our country; we want them to pray for our country. This is not the people living in Minnesota and she’s a disaster. She should not be – and her friends shouldn’t be allowed. Frankly, they shouldn’t even be allowed to be congresspeople… because they don’t represent the interests of our country.”
