‘Boy Meets World’ Star Files to Run For Congress

Boy Meets World star Ben Savage has filed the paperwork required to run for Congress.

Savage is best known for his role as Cory Matthews on the 90s sitcom.

The former child actor ran for city council in West Hollywood last year but lost.

On his campaign website for his city council run, Savage said that he has lived in West Hollywood for 18 years and believes that residents deserve “sensible, honest and strong leadership” to tackle the city’s problems.

“In recent years, however, people have become disappointed with the direction the city is heading,” the campaign website states. “Residents and community leaders have expressed frustration with the political divisiveness and loss of a sense of community. People are eager for leaders who can talk to each other, build coalitions, work together on common sense policies and put the interests of the city and residents above their own.”

“We need to restore faith in city government by offering reasonable, innovative and compassionate solutions to the city’s most pressing issues. We need to increase and expand access to all the great opportunities West Hollywood affords, by ensuring that every member of the community has the tools they need to succeed,” Savage continued.

Under the “priorities” tab of the website, Savage wrote that he looks “forward to raising a family in this historic community where diversity and differences are valued and celebrated.”

According to a report from TMZ, Savage is “throwing his hat in the ring for a soon-to-be vacant seat in the U.S. House of Representatives — assuming Rep. Adam Schiff makes a run for Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s Senate seat, which is widely expected to happen in the near future.”

“Of course, this comes just a couple months after Ben tried his hand at more local politics — in November, he ran for L.A. City Council, but lost … garnering only 6.3% of the vote and tying for 7th place,” the TMZ report noted.
