New York City Mayor Eric Adams (D) on Thursday announced to lift mandatory masking for kids under 5 years of age who attend daycare and preschool in the city.
Adams announced that the city will end its mask mandates for children ages 2-4 starting June 13 due to ‘falling infection rates’ after following the ‘scientific data.’
“I have always said that the science will guide us out of the pandemic, and because we have followed the data, which shows that cases are steadily falling, we‘ve beaten back the latest COVID-19 surge,” Mayor Adams said in a statement. “New Yorkers stepped up when we needed them most and have put us on the path to lower risk.”
“Throughout the current wave, schools have remained the safest places for our children and beginning Monday, June 13, we will make masks optional for 2-4 year old children in all early childhood settings. We still strongly recommend that New Yorkers of all ages continue to wear masks indoors and we will continue to make masks available for any child or school staff member who wishes to continue wearing them.”
“I’m with New York City parents and New Yorkers can trust this administration to continue to make the proper public health decisions to keep our kids safe,” Adam concluded.
The Gateway Pundit previously reported that an angry mother-of-three last April confronted New York City Mayor Eric Adams over his mask mandate for toddlers.
Daniela Jampel, who worked for the city as an attorney, crashed Adams’ press conference to air her grievances over the extended mask mandate for 2-4 year olds.
Recall, Adams and NYC Health Commissioner Ashwin Vasan recommended the toddler mask mandate remain in place last April.
“For now, we want to keep an eye on this latest uptick,” Health Commissioner Ashwin Vasan said.
