Texas gubernatorial candidate Beto O’Rourke has announced that he has COVID-19, despite being fully-vaccinated and boosted.
O’Rourke said in a statement posted to Twitter that he is experiencing “mild symptoms.”

“In addition to being fully vaccinated and boosted, I regularly test for COVID-19 while traveling the state for town hall meetings. I tested negative yesterday morning before testing positive today,” O’Rourke wrote. “I have mild symptoms and will be following public health guidelines.”

O’Rourke had a campaign stop in Livingston, Texas, on Sunday. He is challenging incumbent Gov. Greg Abbott in this year’s midterm elections.

Abbott is nearly eight points ahead of O’Rourke in a head to head matchup, according to Real Clear Politics.
