WATCH: Will Smith Wins Best Actor Award and Cries After Slapping Chris Rock On Oscar Stage

Will Smith won the Best Actor award after he rushed the Oscar stage and slapped comedian Chris Rock in the face for making a joke about his wife.

Smith was not removed from the venue for assaulting the comedian and took to the stage to accept his award not long after.

“I want to be an ambassador of that kind of love and care. I want to apologize to the Academy, I want to apologize to all my fellow nominees. This is a beautiful moment and I’m not crying for winning an award,” Smith said through tears. “It’s not about winning an award for me, it’s about being able to shine a lot on all the people … and the entire cast and crew of King Richard and Venus and Serena and the entire Williams family. Art imitates life. I look like the crazy father, just like they said about Richard Williams! But, love will make you do crazy things.”

Smith apologized to the Academy and fellow nominees, but did not apologize to Rock.

The actress had shaved her head to deal with her alopecia, which causes hair loss and Rock made a joke about her looking like she was getting ready for G.I. Jane 2.

Smith initially laughed, as Jada looked enraged. Moments later, he was jumping on the stage and assaulting the presenter.

Rock, stunned, attempted to shake it off and keep going as Smith shouted at him from back in the audience.

“Wow dude, it was a G.I. Jane joke,” Rock responded, adding “that was the greatest night in the history of television.”

During the commercial break, Smith was pulled aside by Denzel Washington and Tyler Perry who appeared to be telling him to brush it off. Smith appeared to wipe away tears while returning to his seat with Jada and his PR rep.
