Former President Donald Trump has filed a lawsuit against New York Attorney General Letitia James over her probe into his business dealings.
Lawyers representing Trump are arguing that she has violated his constitutional rights with the investigation that has been going on for more than two years.
In the suit, lawyers representing Trump and his family’s real estate company argue that the inquiry is politically motivated.
“Her mission is guided solely by political animus and a desire to harass, intimidate, and retaliate against a private citizen who she views as a political opponent,” Trump’s lawyers wrote in the complaint, according to a report from the New York Times.
The lawsuit was filed in federal court in upstate New York and asks the judge to intervene and stop the investigation.
Two weeks ago it was reported that James would be seeking to question Trump under oath in January.
The Times reports that “the investigation is centered on whether Mr. Trump defrauded lenders by inflating the value of his assets. Ms. James’s office is also assisting in the criminal investigation.”
