WATCH: Reporter Suspended After Being Caught on Camera Smearing Mud on Herself Before Reporting on Flood

German journalist Susanna Ohlen has been suspended by the television network RTL after being caught on camera smearing mud on herself before reporting on a devastating flood.

At least 165 people were killed by the floods in Germany last week.

A bystander caught the reporter wiping mud on her clothing for a piece the network released titled “Cleaning up after the flood: RTL presenter Susanna Ohlen lends a hand in Bad Münstereifel.”

The network responded to the video by announcing that Ohlen has been suspended.

“The actions of our reporter clearly contradicts journalistic principles and our own standards. We therefore suspended her on Monday, after we learned of it,” a spokeswoman for the television network said Thursday, according to DW News.

For her part, Ohlen apologized on Instagram, claiming that she was embarrassed to be seen in clean clothing in front of rescue workers.

“As a journalist, this should never have happened to me. As a person who takes the suffering of all those affected to heart, it has happened to me. I’m sorry,” she wrote on Instagram.

“After I had already helped privately in the region in previous days, I was ashamed to stand in front of the camera in clean clothes, in front of the other relief workers. As a result, without thinking twice, I smeared mud on my clothes.”
