The “far-left” is not too pleased with former President Barack Obama after he called for the party to be more moderate during a fundraising meeting with donors on Friday night.
By Saturday morning, #TooFarLeft was trending in the top spot on Twitter as Democratic Socialists and more progressive members of the party mocked his comment.
“Even as we push the envelope and we are bold in our vision, we also have to be rooted in reality,” Obama said at the meeting, according to a report from The New York Times. “The average American doesn’t think we have to completely tear down the system and remake it.”
Obama cited healthcare and immigration as issues where certain 2020 Democrats may be taking things too far.
Among those who took offense to the comment was former Hillary Clinton aide Peter Daou, who began using the #TooFarLeft hashtag to talk about progressive policies that he supports.
CONFESSION: I'm Too Far Left™
I'm #TooFarLeft because I want kids to be safe in school.
I'm #TooFarLeft because I want people to live in dignity.
I'm #TooFarLeft because I seek justice and equality.
I'm #TooFarLeft because I think healthcare and housing are human rights.

The tweet quickly went semi-viral, with over 3,000 retweets and 10,000 likes in just four hours.
Other Twitter users copied the model and began snarkily tweeting their issues with Obama’s statement.

I’m #TooFarLeft because I don’t want to be doing autopsies on dead teenagers with gunshot wounds. Or dead children, wives, mothers, husbands, fathers. Really anyone. No one should have to die that way. #ThisIsOurLane
