President Trump doesn’t mince words, so he called the city of Baltimore what it is: a “disgusting, rat and rodent infested mess.”
And it is. It really is.
Trump over the weekend called out Democratic Rep. Elijah Cummings, who represents the district in the House, for the dismal state of affairs in the city. The president was, of course, labeled a racist for his criticism of the black lawmaker and the majority black city, but on Tuesday, Trump said black residents of the city have a different mindset.
“They are so happy, because I get the calls,” Trump told reporters before his departure to deliver a speech in Jamestown, Va. “They are happy as hell. The African-American community is so thankful at what I’ve been doing. They’ve been calling me and saying finally somebody is telling the truth.
“Those people are living in hell from Baltimore — they’re largely African-American. They really appreciate what I’m doing and they’ve let me know it. They really appreciate it,” Trump adding, noting that unemployment for African-Americans has been “the lowest in the history of our country” under his administration.
“What I’ve done for African-Americans, I would say no president has done,” Trump said. “They are so happy about what I’ve been able to do in Baltimore and other Democrat corrupt cities… They are so thankful they called me and said finally somebody is telling the truth. … African-American people love the job I’m doing because I’m working for them — not the politicians.”
Asked if was “hurting” himself by calling out Cummings, Trump said: “I think I’m helping myself because I’m pointing out the corruption in Baltimore,” Trump said. And he said “The White House and myself have received more phone calls from the people of Baltimore and other cities thanking me.”
Before he left, Trump posted on Twitter, citing a Baltimore journalist. “I don’t know what it’s going to take. A lot of Democratic run cities all over America look like this, it’s not just Baltimore, unfortunately.” Kimberly Klacik, Baltimore journalist Remember, Vote for Trump, what the h…. do you have to lose? Trump also hit Cummings, who has implied that the federal government is partly to blame for the dire state of the city.
“Baltimore’s numbers are the worst in the United States on Crime and the Economy. Billions of dollars have been pumped in over the years, but to no avail. The money was stolen or wasted. Ask Elijah Cummings where it went. He should investigate himself with his Oversight Committee!” Trump wrote.
