Virginia Dem Senators Mark Warner and Tim Kaine Stand By Gov. Northam After Blackface, KKK Yearbook Photo Surfaces

Virginia Democrat Senators Mark Warner and Tim Kaine both released statements Friday night standing by Governor Ralph Northam after a photo from Northam’s medical school yearbook surfaced showing the Governor in either blackface or a KKK robe.

Mark Warner said the photo is “shocking and deeply offensive” but did not call on Governor Northam to resign. Rather, Warner said, “The Governor must now listen to the people and communities he has hurt, and carefully consider what comes next.”

Tim Kaine called the racist yearbook photo “horrible” then said Northam should now take the time to “listen to those he has hurt and reflect on how to move forward.”

Neither Senator called on Northam to resign. Pathetic.

Democrats always protect their own.

Although Ralph Northam admitted to being in the racist photo, he did not reveal if he was the one dressed in blackface or the KKK robe.

Friday afternoon, Governor Northam released a statement apologizing for the yearbook photo — but he refuses to resign.

Republicans, however, are calling on Governor Northam to step down.

The NAACP president Derrick Johnson also called for Northam to resign saying. “Black face in any manner is always racist and never okay. No matter the party affiliation, we can not stand for such behavior, which is why the NAACP is calling for the resignation of Virginia Governor Ralph Northam.”
