Democratic Socialist Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has claimed that President Donald Trump’s zero-tolerance policy on illegal immigration is on the same spectrum as ethnic cleansing.
Appearing on the podcast “In The Thick” on Tuesday, Ocasio-Cortez discussed why she decided to run for Congress and what the future will bring for her and the Democratic Party.

Discussing the “Abolish ICE” movement, Ocasio-Cortez asked “how much is this black-box detention necessary? And you look at these facilities—we’re caging women and children, we’re jumping to criminalize people…” prompting one of the co-hosts to jump in and assert that it is “kind of like ethnic cleansing.”
“I mean we’re on that spectrum, I would say,” Ocasio-Cortez responded.
The 28-year-old congressional candidate previously made headlines for her controversial comments about Israel. During an interview on PBS’s “Firing Line” earlier this month, Ocasio-Cortez said that she thinks that “what people are starting to see– at least in the occupation of Palestine– is just an increasing crisis of humanitarian condition and that to me is just where I tend to come from on this issue.”
When asked by the host to clarify her position, the darling of the Democratic Party admitted that she has no idea what she is talking about.
“I am not the expert at geopolitics on this issue,” she said, laughing.
