Trump Slams White House Correspondents’ Dinner as ‘Fake News Prom,’ Will Hold Michigan Rally Instead of Attending (VIDEO)

President Donald Trump is not only skipping the annual White House Correspondents’ Dinner again this year, he took to Facebook on Friday to mock the event by calling it the “fake news prom.”

The typically star-studded event has lost its luster under the Trump administration, as the president declined attending in 2017 as well. During previous administrations, the president would attend the black-tie dinner and be lightly roasted by the host and other guests, which always included A-list celebrities.

During his presidency, President Trump has skipped both and instead held competing rallies at the same time. This year, his rally will be in Washington, Michigan.

In a Facebook post about the dinner, Trump wrote, “tomorrow night I’m skipping the Fake News Prom (White House Correspondents’ Dinner) to be with American patriots who truly want to MAGA! Tune in at 7pm to watch the rally LIVE on Facebook!”

The post also included a video, in which Trump media advisor Mark Serrano said that “this weekend, the elites of the fake news media will be gathering in Washington for the annual White House Correspondents Dinner. It will be a star-studded event where the denizens of Washington society hobnob with their favorite celebrities to wine and dine and pat themselves on the back for all of their fake news achievements over the past year.”

“The truth is the White House Correspondents Dinner merely exposes the cozy, co-dependent relationship that exists year-round between the political class in Washington, their mouthpieces in the mainstream media, and the Hollywood elites who shape our culture with their out-of-touch liberal ideology,” Serrano continued. “As is customary, the President of the United States was invited to this glamorous affair and President Trump is in Washington that evening — Washington, Michigan, that is!”

Serrano continued on to say that while the “fake news media is celebrating themselves with champagne toasts” President Trump will be leading a rally at the exact same time “with hardworking patriotic Americans.”

The event will be attended by Sarah Sanders, and hosted by Michelle Wolf, from Comedy Central’s The Daily Show with Trevor Noah.
