Portland To Spend $750,000 On Illegal Alien Defense Funds

While Portland suffers from mass homelessness, sky rocketing housing costs, dilapidated roads, and rising crime, the brilliant members of the city council want to allocate $750,000 on legal defense for illegal aliens. The effort, led by councilpersonofnonspecifiedgender Chloe Eudaly, would boost the fund from an already budgeted $100,000.

Willamette Week reports:

City Commissioner Chloe Eudaly is requesting $750,000 in city funds to defend people arrested and facing deportation in the Portland area.

“The hostile environment created by our federal administration has required us to give more of ourselves in order to stand united against attacks on our immigrant communities,” she wrote in a letter today, announcing her budget request to the Welcoming/Inclusive/Sanctuary City Task Force, which recommended the policy.

The task force, which was established after city passed a resolution last year designating Portland a welcoming, inclusive and sanctuary city, last month recommended legal defense as a its “highest-priority” item.

“At a minimum, funding should support five attorneys and three paralegals to begin building the capacity for providing universal defense to all immigrants and refugees who are detained or put into deportation proceedings,” according to the task force recommendations.

The proposal would vastly expand the funding the city has made available for immigration legal defense.

The city council meeting discussing this was stacked with all sorts of little “community organization” talking heads, all on the task force, and all speaking in favor of the city’s “sanctuary” policy (Skip to 7:10 in the video).

Councilepersonofnonspecifiedgender Eudaly is no stranger to controversy. Though she’s the newest member of city council, she’s already been in at the center of several social media covfefes, where she goes on rants about certain journalists. She is currently embroiled in a lawsuit over blocking constituents from her facebook and twitter pages where she discusses city council business.

It’s a shame they prioritize money for illegal aliens over helping actual citizens.
