With Michelle Obama’s new school lunch standards in full effect, schools are forcing children to take more servings of fruits and vegetables whether they want them or not.
Where are all of the extra servings ending up?
In the trash can.
News Channel 5 in Cleveland reports an estimated 4 million dollars per day is wasted in discarded fruits and veggies ($100,000 a day in L.A. alone). The report also estimates a nearly 82% increase in the amount of food being wasted in America’s school lunchrooms.
Like the old saying goes “You can lead a 3rd grader to broccoli, but you can’t make him eat it.” … Or, something like that.
