Breaking: Comey Lied About Never Seeing Trump Laugh: His Own Memo Records That Trump Laughed

Fired FBI Director James Comey made big headlines this week with his observations in his book, A Higher Loyalty, and in interviews that he has never seen President Donald Trump, the man who fired him, laugh. However this has turned out to be a big lie by Comey as his own memo (dated January 7, 2017) of a private conversation he had with then President Elect Trump on January 6, 2017 at Trump Tower shows Comey wrote he saw Trump laugh at Comey’s mention of Russian prostitutes in the now infamous Russian Dossier.

Comey in his book, as reported by People with the headline, James Comey Says President Trump Never Laughs and Is ‘Deeply Insecure’ in Explosive New Memoir:

“I don’t recall seeing [Trump] laugh, ever. Not during small talk before meetings. Not in a conversation. Not even here, during an ostensibly relaxed dinner,” writes Comey.

“I suspect his apparent inability to do so is rooted in deep insecurity,” he adds later, “his inability to be vulnerable or to risk himself by appreciating the humor of others, which, on reflection, is really very sad in a leader, and a little scary in a president.”

In his interview with ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos, as reported by CNN with the headline, James Comey says Donald Trump never laughs. Is he right?.

STEPHANOPOULOS: You notice something else — during that dinner. You say the President didn’t laugh.

COMEY: Yeah, not at all. And I was struck by it. So struck by it, it stayed with me, that I’ve never seen him laugh. Not in public, not in private. And at a dinner with someone — I mean, I’m not a comedian but I occasionally say something that’s funny that people chuckle with each other.

But I never saw anything that resembled a laugh. And I could over-interpret that, I could be — also, we’re missing something that — that maybe he’s — he’s breaking up in stitches with other people other than the FBI director, but I also tried — after I got fired, I thought — that stayed with me. And so I went and tried to find examples of videos where he’s laughing and I could only find that really wasn’t a genuine laugh.”

From Comey’s memo on the January 6, 2017 meeting with Trump (posted to Document Cloud by the AP):

…(Previous sentence redacted) “I said the Russians allegedly had tapes involving him and prostitues at the Presidential Suite at the Ritz Carlton in Moscow from about 2013. He interjected, “there were no prostitutes, there were never prostitutes.” He then said something about him being the kind of guy who didn’t need to “go there” and laughed (which I understood to be communicating that he didn’t need to pay for sex. He said “2013” to himself, as if trying to remember that period of time, but didn’t add anything. He said he always assumed that hotel rooms he stayed in when he travels are wired in some way. I replied that I do as well.”

UPDATE: This evening as the memos were released, Comey was still promoting his big lie:

“James @Comey says he never remembers seeing Trump laugh: “It struck me because I think that laughter is a tell that a person has a certain level of confidence and humility.”
