Rumors of FBI officials mishandling intel come on the heels of newly released text messages suggesting former bureau counterintelligence agent Peter Strzok may have violated rules protecting classified information by using his cell phone in a Secure Compartmented Information Facility (SCIF).

Daily Caller reports:

SCIF stands for Secure Compartmented Information Facility, and it is where the most sensitive classified material is kept and story. SCIFs strictly bar all electronic equipment and require all people place their phones in lockers before entering.

The lead up to Strzok’s visit to “Jims SCIF” took place around meetings at the Department of Justice. Strzok said he had meetings at “DoJ at 4 then Baker 430.”

Hours later, Page responds, “Can you and [redacted woman] come up and see me when you are done? Is [redacted woman] with you? Can you please come up here?” […]

“We’re in Jims SCIF,” Strzok texted five minutes later. JB/Jim may refer to Jim Baker, then the FBI’s general counsel and a close ally of then-FBI Director Jim Comey.

This isn’t the first time Strzok and Page’s cell phone use has raised eyebrows. Text messages released Wednesday by Senators Chuck Grassley (R-IA) and Lindsey Graham (R-SC) suggest the disgraced FBI agents used untraceable phones to communicate about Hillary Clinton.

“We text on that phone when we talk about Hillary so it can’t be traced,” Strzok texted to Page.

Fox News contributor Sara A. Carter previously reported text messages exchanged between Strzok and Page revealed discussions about purchasing Apple iPhones to bypass “government collection,” systems. During one of their exchanges, Strzok told Page, “If I want to copy/take classified, I’m sure as hell not going to do it on this phone.”

Strzok and Page’s usage of unsecured phones has raised concerns that their messages may have been hacked by “foreign actors.” Fox News contributor Sara Carter has raised the prospect that countries such as Russia and China could have used the captured exchanges to blackmail both the disgraced FBI agents.
