Mystery Surrounds Sudden Death of Mega Donor To Hillary Clinton & Barack Obama

Steve Mostyn, Democrat mega donor to Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton, died after “a sudden onset and battle with a mental health issue.”

While the death appears to be suicide, the Mostyn family has yet to comment on what the cause of death is.

Mostyn, a famous Houston-area trial lawyer was one of the country’s biggest donors to Democrat causes.

Chron.com reports:

The Mostyns were co-founders of the Ready for Hillary PAC, a political action committee supporting Clinton’s unsuccessful campaign for president. At the same time, state campaign finance records show he contributed to a police-affiliated PAC that supported some Republican primary candidates.

In 2016, Mostyn gave Clinton $1 million.

The Statesman reports:

The Mostyns were particularly active in the 2012 national elections, donating $5.2 million to political action committees backing President Barack Obama and Democrats in Congress, establishing the couple as among the nation’s top 20 donors to political causes that year, according to the Center for Public Integrity.

Questions are being raised after the cause of death was withheld. Mostyn did not have a history of mental illness.

Mostyn made millions by suing insurance companies after Hurricane Rita in 2005 and Hurricane Ike in 2008 ravaged the state of Texas.

According to the Daily Caller, the Foundation for Accountability and Civic Trust (FACT) issued a formal complaint against Hillary Clinton’s campaign for coordinating with Mostyn’s Ready for Hillary Super PAC.

FACT has asked other federal agencies to investigate the Clinton campaign’s dealings. The watchdog sent a letter to the IRS asking it to investigate a $350,000 payment that the Clinton Foundation made to Clinton’s 2008 presidential campaign for an email list of potential donors.

The watchdog has also asked the Federal Election Commission to investigate whether Clinton’s campaign illegally obtained an email list of 4 million names from the pro-Clinton super PAC, Ready for Hillary. FACT asserts that the list swap should be considered an in-kind donation — which would constitute illegal coordination between the campaign and PAC.

FACT has also asked the Senate Select Committee on Ethics to look into an April 21 meeting in which Clinton campaign aides attended a weekly meeting of Senate Democrats. FACT asserts that the meeting violates rule

Of course, nothing came of the complaint.
