U2 Salutes Rep. Scalise at DC Area Concert

U2 lead singer Bono spoke out on stage Tuesday night about the recent shooting attack on GOP congressmen, saying at a concert held at FedEx Field in Landover, MD, located just outside of Washington, D.C., “You’ve been through some troubling days here on the shooting in Alexandria. We are so grateful Congressman Scalise and his comrades made it through. So grateful. We hold them up…as love holds us all up.”

Katie Frates, Editor at the Daily Caller, reported Bono also had a message of political tolerance, “Whoever you voted for, you are welcome here. We will find common ground.”

U2 was playing the DC area as part of its Joshua Tree 2017 tour. Billboard reported the tour has earned $62 million for the first ten shows of the tour, May 12 though June 7, playing to over 500,000 fans. The tour ends the first leg in the U.S. on July 1 but will return in September for a second leg.

The shooter in the June 14 the attack on GOP congressmen holding a baseball practice in Alexandria, Virginia was a liberal anti-Trump, anti-GOP, Bernie Sanders activist named James T. Hodgkinson who was shot dead by police.

In addition to Scalise, those shot were Matt Mika, the director of government relations for the Washington office of Tyson Foods and a former congressional staff member who was shot twice in the chest; Zachary Barth, a staffer for Rep. Roger Williams (R-TX), who was hit in the leg by a bullet and was treated and released; two Capitol Police officers who were part of Scalise’s security detail were wounded in the attack: Officer Crystal Griner was shot in the ankle, Officer David Bailey sustained minor injuries and was also treated and released.

The City of Alexandria held a ceremony Tuesday evening ‘reclaiming’ the baseball field, reported Dick Uliano with WTOP-FM.

Rep. Joe Barton (R-TX), who was at the ball field during the attack, attended the ceremony.
