A North Carolina man was shot seven times trying to stop Umpqua shooter Chris Harper Mercer at Umpqua College on Thursday.
Chris Mintz told the shooter it was his son’s birthday before being shot two times on the floor.

Mintz, who is an Army veteran, survived the attack with two broken legs.
FOX 8 reported:

A man originally from Randleman was shot and injured in the Oregon community college shooting Thursday that resulted in 10 fatalities.

Seven other people were injured when a gunman — identified as Chris Harper Mercer– opened fire at Oregon’s Umpqua Community College in Roseburg.

Chris Mintz graduated from Randleman High School in 2003 and had been in Oregon for at least 10 years, according to family members.

Mintz spent most of Thursday in surgery after receiving seven gunshots during the attack. Family members said Mintz was able to talk to loved ones before going into surgery. He told them that he heard gunshots in another classroom and tried to keep the gunman from entering his classroom.

“He could have very easily died,” said Wanda Mintz, the victim’s aunt. “I really think that if he wasn’t such a strong, young guy, he may have died.”

Family members said both of Mintz’s legs are broken and he will have to relearn to walk, but he is now recovering and expected to survive. No vital organs were hit.

Mintz has been in the military for at least 10 years and was in Oregon, primarily, to raise his son, according to his family.

He was probably trained to properly handle a gun. It’s too bad idiocy kept him from carrying. It is likely that many more people would be alive today if he had been.

Every bullet he took saved a life, he was not going to die on his knees to a enabled maniac.

“Gun Free” he had to take him out with his bare hands! Despite Odumb-dumb, our military boys and girls are BAD A–es to the core. Our family is consulting with the All-mighty for your speedy recovery. Did you pull all the bullets out with a knife or did you let the doctors do the dirty work?

When I see stories like this, it gives me hope for this generation. Well done young man. You’re a shining example of what goodness, courage, and America is about.

He probably will not be honored at the White House!

  • bittman

I’m sure Obama will invite him to the White House right after the Muslim kid with the “reassembled clock in the briefcase” visits the White House.

    You sound dumb. Shut up.

    How do you define “good?”

  • Addison Jacobs

And you sound irrelevant. Keep talking, you do more to show people the idiocy of the left than anything I could say.
