State Dept. Deputy Spokeperson: We Are at War With People Who Want to Kill People in the Name of a Variety of Causes (Video)

Martha MacCallum grilled State Department Deputy Spokesperson Marie Harf tonight on the administration’s refusal to use the term “Islamic extremism.”

Martha MacCallum: Every time we see this exchange it seems like the answer is so tortured. Its so difficult to say what everyone around the world feels so clearly it is. Leaders have said in Canada, and Australia and Paris where they have felt it so personally, they’ve all said quite clearly that the battle is against Islamic extremism. Why is that so hard to say?

Marie Harf: “Well, it’s not hard to say but it’s not the only type of extremism we face. I would recommend people look at this administration’s counter-terrorism record… Much of it is Islamic. But some of it is not. So we’re going to focus on all of the different kinds of extremism. With a heavy focus on those who do this in the name of Islam. We would say falsely in the name of Islam. But there are other forms of extremism.

MacCallum: Tell me, what other forms of extremism are particularly troubling and compelling to you right now?

Harf: Well look, there are people out there who want to kill other people in the name of a variety of causes.

What lunacy.

This was one crazy interview.

FOX News Insider reported:

Martha MacCallum tonight took on State Department Deputy Spokesperson Marie Harf over the administration’s avoidance of the term “Islamic extremism.”

MacCallum asked her: Why is it so hard to say?

“It’s not hard to say, but it’s not the only kind of extremist we face,” Harf said.

MacCallum fired back, asking what other forms of extremism “are particularly troubling” to the State Department. Harf told MacCallum that the State Department is “of course” most focused on extremism in the name of Islam.

MacCallum also asked Harf why someone notable from the administration did not attend Sunday’s march in Paris.

Harf said the White House agrees that someone more senior should have attended the event. Still, she added, “I don’t think American leadership in the world is defined by any one march […] if you think it is, that’s really taking a pretty limited view of American leadership.”
