California Democrats Propose New Rules on Gun Registration and Confiscation of “Assault Weapons”

California Democrats are proposing massive gun control push that would require all guns to be registered and confiscation of all 166,000 registered assault weapons in the state. The Democrats also are pushing for permits to buy ammunition.
CBS Local reported:

Mercury News reported:

All semi-automatic rifles with detachable magazines would be banned, all guns would be registered and no ammunition could be bought without a special permit in California under a sweeping list of bills rolled out Thursday by state Senate Democrats.

The 10-bill package constitutes the single largest gun control push in decades in the Golden State, which already boasts some of the nation’s strictest gun laws. It joins equally controversial proposals from Assembly Democrats that would regulate and tax ammunition sales and consider taking the state’s 166,000 registered assault weapons from their owners.

The bills have a good chance of passing through as only a majority approval is needed and the Democrats control the House and the Senate.

If they tried this in TX people would make their displeasure known.
Every few years some liberal gets the great idea of a state income tax. Last time it happened someone fire shots through the state house windows.
California is cutting their own throats. Soon they will have 3 classes of people. The elite liberals the moochers and the freaks. All conservatives should just leave the state and go somewhere they are welcomed.

  • Economan

I won’t comply. I can’t wait to move out of this commie state anyways.

There will be a lot of dead politicians in California should they pass this bill and actually begin conficiations. They are too broke to give them all 24/365 protection

  • iamsaved

If we had a justice system that upheld the law, this would be a perfect case of what infringement looks like. But I don’t believe they have balanced judicial scales anymore.

  • Trevor (@tjexcite)

Have at it. They are doing a wonderful job confiscation the already illegal drugs from Mexico so why not try for guns and Mexicans from Mexico. With all the money that California has to burn they they can hire 27 new officers to do it and in 38 years they might get all the guns off the streets.

  • Joe

All the while they deal with this?

“California unable to disarm 19,700 felons and mentally ill people
Despite being able to take weapons owned by felons and the mentally ill, state officials say staff shortages and funding cuts have slowed seizures.”

“California authorities are empowered to seize weapons owned by convicted felons and people with mental illness, but staff shortages and funding cuts have left a backlog of more than 19,700 people to disarm, a law enforcement official said Tuesday.

Those gun owners have roughly 39,000 firearms, said Stephen Lindley, chief of the Bureau of Firearms for the state Department of Justice, testifying at a joint legislative hearing. His office lacks enough staff to confiscate all the weapons, which are recorded in the state’s Armed Prohibited Persons database, he said.”

As we see, they will not enforce immigration laws, or firearm laws already on the books, so why should we believe more laws will be the answer?

  • Highlander

What part of “shall not be infringed” don’t those tyrants understand?

  • the liberals can’t come with any laws to help the economy, colonization, education, the family, but gun control they can roll them out by the hundreds. we have over two thousand federal and state gun control laws, why doe anybody think a new one is going to solve any problems.

Will they take the guns from illegals? They do not enforce the laws equally between whites and browns now!

As I said in another post, anyone who cannot see that democrats are blatantly evil and care for nothing except gaining totalitarian control over the masses…does not deserve to be free.

I do not consider any democrat an American anymore. They do not support the US Constitution, but misuse it to justify their shredding of it on the altar of “progressivism”. These Califonia Democrats are clearly in violation of the 2nd Amendment with this described law. They do not care. They want us all in chains.

Any vote for a democrat or for any RINO is treason against the Constitution. You cannot see it any other way when you have all this evidence as to the democrats ultimate political goals.

They have enough money to take our guns but not enough to refuel our carriers.

Navy: Lincoln Refueling Delayed, Will Hurt Carrier Readiness
“The aircraft carriers USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN 69), USS George H.W. Bush (CVN 77), USS Enterprise (CVN 65), USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75), and USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72) are in port at Naval Station Norfolk, Va. US Navy Photo

The U.S. Navy will delay the refueling of the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72) for an unknown period because of the uncertain fiscal environment due to the ongoing legislative struggle, the service told Congress in a Friday message obtained by USNI News.”

  • Skandia Recluse

Are the California legislatures smarter than the New York legislatures? Will they exempt government officials and law enforcement, or will they only discover that they forgot to do so after they pass the bill?

  • Ahh, California, morally, ethically, and financially bankrupt and now gun Nazi’s. The perfect example of how NOT to run a state.

  • Marmo

It looks like Jerry Brown wants California to compete with Chicago for the highest level of gun violence. It’s proven that strict gun control areas show an increase in gun violence.

  • Blacque Jacques Shellacque

I’ve had enough. I need to get the hell out of this place.

  • I don’t know about the rest of you, but I’m getting really tired of seeing people sit back and let the Liberals take over the most beautiful parts of our country and ruin them and run Conservatives out of the various states. Conservatives don’t have to pack up and move, instead they need to start banding together and throwing the Liberals out. California was once a paradise, and now it is fast becoming a third world hell hole. At some point, there won’t be anywhere for decent people to go. It may already be too late.

  • Jack

Who are the 166,000 morons who registered their AR’s in the first place? No doubt there are hundreds of thousands that are unregisted.

  • Ray

    Lawsuit waiting to happen.

  • Maudie N Mandeville

Oh, I hope so! As they say, the states are the petri dishes. Show them the results, California, with all your hispanic and black gangs. Come to Hollywood first, it’s where all the white women are.

  • mark1973

#30, They are not moron’s. A firearm HAS to be registered when you purchase it there. I believe That’s the law in California as it is here in Massachusetts. Don’t anyone in any other States ‘Without Firearms registration” get cocky.Any Firearm that has had a Background check run on it is registered. The federal government is not supposed to have access to that paperwork, but the ATF and Federal government in general is not big on complying with the Constitution.

  • I want out of this state… Im broke and unemployed college educated with 20yrs work experience. No one will give me the time of day to earn a buck so I can save and get out.

Had it not been for family Id be on the street. That same family is why I am here otherwise I would have left when I once had the means.

  • CT

Zero compliance…. Our Sheriff said he won’t enforce these laws. The legislators that vote for this crap should be the people personally charged with the enforcing the confiscation (knocking on doors).

  • Blacque Jacques Shellacque

…instead they need to start banding together and throwing the Liberals out. California was once a paradise, and now it is fast becoming a third world hell hole.

Not possible to do here. Liberals have pretty much taken over the large metropolitan areas, which is where all the power is concentrated. What’s more, the Republican Party here is more or less useless, even though they do have some good people in their ranks (Tom McClintock comes to mind).

It’s better to just let it all collapse; the people here either don’t know or don’t care about the eventual end result of the liberalism they keep on voting for, so they should left alone to enjoy what’s coming to them.

  • Buffalobob

Let them have it. The state can do whatever they want, but I don’t want my state paying for it. We need to cut all money going to the federal government by 90%! Each state should be accountable for itself, not each prosperous RED state paying for the blood sucking BLUE states.

you show them California; be all you can be; remember you’re smarter than the black market, supply and demand, the profit motive, undercover manufacturing, distribution networks and the will of the people

  • Joe

#33 “Don’t anyone in any other States ‘Without Firearms registration” ”

In Maryland of all states there is no registration scheme for any purchases. There is the background check and a 7 day waiting period for a regulated firearm. You must watch a video about “safety” before purchase as well. The handguns (regulated) are only sold with a fired shell casing that is fired at the manufacturer and included in the case which upon sale goes to the Maryland State Police Ballistics Office for their “Ballistic fingerprinting”. The casing is linked to the gun and not the end user. So we are told and believe. In the 7 or 8 years it has been in effect, tens of millions of dollars have been spent and not one crime solved using the database. That shows that law abiding citizens who buy yheir firearms legally rarely use them in a crime.

  • Jeannie

Sidney Allen, I’m one of the few Native Californians left and it’s family and the unwillingness to let these losers have the place that has me here still.

I hope the NRA makes mincemeat of this place.
And I want it on record that the guillotine ought to be reinstated here first for gross misconduct of politicidiots.

  • cavt

Agree with Blacque. This state sucks and is a lost cause. (McClintock is a good and rare conservative.) Brown and dems talk about how all is great and Ca is Nirvana–how could any business want to leave here and move to Texas. Shall we call it freedom and money–beyond their comprehension. They will never get my guns and I’ll keep going to Vegas to buy ammo. Fools

  • WillofLa

Any and all gun laws like this one are a violation of the citizens of California 2nd Amendment rights. The legislator’s are in violation of the Constitution, and what they propose is unConstitutional. They cannot do this, and no one should be obeying any of the other laws if you are a lawful, law abiding citizen with none of the problems criminals have if they went to go buy a gun or ammo. If you don’t have a record you have the right to do whatever you want so long as it doesn’t violate another person’s rights or freedoms. That is what the U.S. Constitution says and California is in violation of it.

Do not obey any anti-gun law that this illegal state is passing.

Let me tell everyone something. Any so-called law that violates the Constitution is NOT a law. It is a “decree”. A “decree” is a rule that is written like a law, sounds like a law, and does what a law would do, but is not a law. If anything that these legislative criminals are putting onto the citizens of California violates the Constitution, and they know it, they want to control the rights of the people. So they pass “decrees” that they claim are laws, buy if they do not agree with the Constitution, they ARE NOT LAWS, THEY ARE DECREES!!

    Today’s Headline:

Woman unintentionally shoots husband at McDonald’s

48-year-old Barbara Master, of Bend, Oregon, and her husband, Richard Cooper, were at a local McDonald’s restaurant. The couple was sitting in the restaurant’s dining area when Masters leaned over and a .22-caliber Derringer handgun fell out of her pocket and hit the floor.

I’m a conservative trapped in California (native). The only way I could get out is if I leave my wife and job and move somewhere else, where I’d end up divorced and unemployed. My wife is conservative too, but doesn’t follow much politics. I have high hopes of getting out at retirement (if there is such a thing), but that’s still 20 years away. A lot can happen in 20 years, but I’m 99.9% sure it will get worse instead of better. This place is going downhill at an accelerated rate.

We have democrat senators here who’ve been in office for decades. The recent tax hikes reportedly were placed on the ballot illegally, doesn’t seem to matter to anyone. Polls say Californians want change, but keep voting for the same crappy people. Definition of Insanity: Doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result.

…and so it will begin. I suppose it is only fitting that such should start in the absolute armpit of america

  • Rick554

Theres a cop-killer wandering around LA and these idiots want to disarm the people ?? Must be something in the water…. you can already see the air there.

Hah! They can’t stop illegal aliens and drugs from crossing the border. They’ll just create a black market for criminals to make big bucks smuggling them.

This will be a test of how close we are to war within this nation. If this confiscation goes forward, and is successful, the blue states will rush to copy it.

The alternative is mass non-compliance and defiance, which means jail time and/or bloodshed.

My prayers for the those who stand their ground. May patriots come to your aid.

  • JDStone

Even if Moonbeam vetoes this bill the Legislature has enough of a majority to override it.This is a clear violation of the 2nd amendment and I hope the SC will see it that way.OUT OF MY COLD DEAD HANDS COMMUNISTS!!!!

Calif legislature has been told to do this in orer to get the bail out check.

#44, I meant “Defacto” Firearms registration by the government keeping a record of the background check, even if they are not supposed to. While Maryland and many other states technically, might not have registration, when they conduct a background check the government is keeping a record…Even if they are not supposed to.

  • CommieJuice

Hitler, Stalin, Mao and Mussolini all showed the path to totalitarianism, now the Democrats follow the path given to them by their ancestors/teachers. With a complicit state-run media, who can stop them now?

The National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) bill that was written by John McCain and signed into law by 0bama, gives 0bama the power to declare American individuals or groups to be terrorist, that gives the military the right to detain those people indefinitely without trail. Sound like kook, conspiracy, Orwellian stuff? Welcome to 0bama’s America 2013! Look it up!

Now the 1st amendment to speak out is limited by the NDAA. If you protest the government you can be declared a terrorist which takes away the 7th amendment’s trail by jury, the 4th amendment’s warrant clause, the 5th amendment’s due process and 6th amendment’s speedy trail. Indefinite detention without trail also infringes on the 8th amendment’s cruel and unusual punishments. 0bamacare was upheld by John Robert’s supreme court. 0bamacare infringes on the 1st amendment’s freedom of religion unless you are muslim or Amish. The 2nd amendment that protects all the others, is now under attack with the threat of confiscation! If they take the guns away, what is left? With 0bamacare, the NDAA, a complicit media and gun confiscation, WHAT IS LEFT?

If you don’t feel that uneasy feeling that something bad is going to happen, if you don’t have the sense that America is close to the edge, then hope is almost lost for most of us, but not all.

I would go to Texas but its financially impossible… try having mortgage on your resume! Yea its one of the reasons Im long term unemployed, worst off I was a B2B rep but get lumped together with all the LO’s & brokers who shafted ppl! Ive been looking for work but as I understand it you have to have a job to get a job soooo Im pretty much screwed.

Only been in this state for 12 years and when I came here it was nothing like it is now. What ppl need to understand is that the way CA goes so does the nation eventually! EVERYONE should be extremely concerned.

  • Action Now

Conservatives need to organize and fight back, starting now. We need to actively fight the liberals, starting in the few remaining red bastions in the state. In those areas, conservatives need to band together to pass local ordinances that target liberal institutions and causes. One step would be to raise taxes on newspapers, which are nothing but liberal propaganda. These local newspapers will quickly learn that they have to support conservatives or perish. Another step is to pass local ordinances that require the local schools to hire conservatives in the same proportion as in the local population. We need conservatives educating our children. We need to require local libraries to start carrying books by conservative authors. We need to organize and fight back.

I hear parts of Ca. Coastline is slipping away into the Ocean with the help of an Earthquake.
In California, for example, there are two plates the Pacific Plate (which extends from western California to Japan, including much of the Pacific Ocean floor) and the North American Plate (which is most of the North American continent and parts of the Atlantic Ocean). The Pacific Plate grinds northwestward past the North American Plate along the San Andreas Fault at a rate of about two inches per year. Parts of the San Andreas Fault system adapt to this movement by constant “creep” resulting in many tiny shocks and a few moderate earth tremors. In other parts, strain can build up for hundreds of years, producing great earthquakes when it finally releases. Large and small earthquakes can also occur on faults not previously recognized; recent earthquakes in Alabama and Virginia are good examples. [………………….]

California has the most earthquakes in the United States.
PARTIALLY FACT: Alaska registers the most earthquakes in a given year, with California placing second. California, however, has the most damaging earthquakes because of its greater population and extensive infrastructure. Most of Alaska’s large earthquakes occur in remote locations such as along the Aleutian Island chain. Florida and North Dakota have the fewest earthquakes each year.

And guns? I would worry about deaths from Mother Nature. And death by Taxes.
