Sen. John Barrasso (R-WY) weighed in on President Obama’s second term today on CNN’s “State of the Union.” Barrasso does not believe Harry Reid will bring the gun-control proposals to the Senate floor.

The Hill reported:

Sen. John Barrasso (R-Wyo.) said Sunday that he does not believe President Obama’s gun-control proposals will be brought to the Senate floor for a vote.

Speaking on CNN’s “State of the Union,” Barrasso said election worries among Democrats will sideline legislation that could restrict gun ownership.

Obama has called on Congress to institute universal background checks for all gun sales as well as bans on assault weapons and high-capacity magazines, among other items.

“I don’t think Sen. Harry Reid [D-Nev.] even brings it to the Senate floor because he has six Democrats up for election in two years in states where the president received fewer than 42 percent of the votes,” Barrasso said. “He doesn’t want his Democrats to have to choose between their own constituents and the president’s positions.”

The White House has recognized that passing gun-control legislation will be tough, though they are confident, anger over a mass shooting at an elementary school last month has shifted the public debate.

  1. interest is fading, we have crushing debt to address

  2. “He doesn’t want his Democrats to have to choose between their own constituents and the president’s positions.” WTH????????? Always thought the people who got elected as “representatives” were supposed to be representing the people who elected them. Silly me. They really represent the regime. That’s who they are “representatives” of. VERY telling statement he made. Poor babies, gonna cry, wringing their hands….”Oh dear, who do I represent? The people who elected me to do a job here FOR them or dear leader?”

  3. This is the new republican strategy. First they say that it will never pass, then they say that we will get what we want the next time gosh darn it you just wait we will mean business next time.

  4. It will morph from ‘gun control’ to ‘gun safety’ and the RINOs will line right up….

They cannot be trusted….. prepare and don’t be lulled to sleep with the ‘bi-partisianship’ crapola.

  5. I think there is a good chance HRH will get smacked down on this issue and will end up having wasted a lot of time and political capital while the world burns, AMerican hostages are being killed and the USA slides into the fiscal abyss.

  6. Every Senator up for reelection in ’14 should be asked NOW whether they support ANYmore gun restrictions. Not one more step! 20,000 gun laws is quite enough.

  7. If Obama gets his gun proposals passed, Harry Reid isn’t going to have to worry about democrat candidates, once Americans are disarmed, and even if he did, Reid would just show them all to cheat in their individual elections anyhow – just like he did. All the socialists’ goals depend on disarming the American people – they know it isn’t going to be easy, but they are a patient, evil lot and will never give up. Never underestimate to what lengths communists will go to to achieve their goals.

  8. Sen. John Barrasso (R-Wyo.) said Sunday that he does not believe President Obama’s gun-control proposals will be brought to the Senate floor for a vote.

It doesn’t matter what you think, Senator. Plan accordingly in the event that it somehow does happen. In short, cover all the bases.

Nothing is worse than being caught with your pants down.

  9. I have a wide stance dammit!

  10. Why would ANYBODY think that dictatorial decrees from a tyrant will get a voted upon in Congress?

  11. Question: If the Senate (or Congress) does not vote on any EO’s, don’t they after a certain amount of time go into effect (much like a law) so that in fact, the only way to undo BHO’s EO’s is to vote on it and defeat them with a “no” vote which might be why Dirty Harry won’t bring them up for a vote so as to allow them to (over time) simply go into effect?

  12. Question: If the Senate (or Congress) does not vote on any EO’s, don’t they after a certain amount of time go into effect (much like a law)

Ummm … no. EOs go into effect w/o involving Congress. That is why they are controversial. The only recourse is through the courts.

But not to worry, so far Obama has not issued any EOs regarding gun control, just a few memorandums and report authorizations.

  13. “He doesn’t want his Democrats to have to choose between their own constituents and the president’s positions.”

Barrasso is kidding himself. Someone should remind him of the Obamacare vote and how much Kenya Boy cared about making reps choose between his policies (his decrees is more like it) and their constituents.

Kenya Boy doesn’t care about constituents. Electronic voting machines have rendered them (us) obsolete.

  14. #15 Shaddow . . .thanks for the explanation!
