Most Americans will likely face a $63-per-head Obamacare fee in 2014 to pay for those with pre-existing conditions. Under Obama’s plan insurance companies will be unable to turn away individuals with pre-existing conditions starting in 2014.
The Washington Times reported:
Your medical plan is facing an unexpected expense, so you probably are, too. It’s a new, $63-per-head fee to cushion the cost of covering people with pre-existing conditions under President Obama’s health care overhaul.
The charge, buried in a recent regulation, works out to tens of millions of dollars for the largest companies, employers say. Most of that is likely to be passed on to workers.
Employee benefits lawyer Chantel Sheaks calls it a “sleeper issue” with significant financial consequences, particularly for large employers.
“Especially at a time when we are facing economic uncertainty, [companies will] be hit with a multimillion-dollar assessment without getting anything back for it,” said Mr. Sheaks, a principal at Buck Consultants, a Xerox subsidiary.
Based on figures provided in the regulation, employer and individual health plans covering an estimated 190 million Americans could owe the per-person fee.
The Obama administration says it is a temporary assessment levied for three years starting in 2014, designed to raise $25 billion. It starts at $63 and then declines.
Most of the money will go into a fund administered by the Health and Human Services Department. It will be used to cushion health insurance companies from the initial hard-to-predict costs of covering uninsured people with medical problems. Under the law, insurers will be forbidden from turning away the sick as of Jan. 1, 2014.
But it’s just a temporary tax… Right?

“Most of the money will go into a fund administered by the Health and Human Services Department”. Now just what could go wrong with that? A government agency run by incompetent bureaucratic with no over site or consequences if they (and they will) screw up.

And when the shortfalls begin (and we all know they will) that “temporary” fee will not only become permanent, it will probably skyrocket …

There has got to be something illegal about Obama care but the Supreme Court is too stupid to find it or getting a kick back.
Freddy commented:
Something is completely amiss in this. I am not aware of any regulatory body that can randomly assign new fees.
How long until this new tax by regulation ‘authority’ is found to be unconstitutional? Before you laugh and point fingers at the courts, every regulatory boday does have clearly written limits. Someone needs to find out what part of the obamacare law allows these regulations.

Obamacare is 2000+ pages of vague legislation, chock full of clauses that allow for rules and regulations “to be determined” at a later date by persons unnamed. But, we had to pass the bill to find out what was in it, right?
squeaky commented:
“Obamacare is 2000+ pages of vague legislation..” and aren’t they still adding to it as we write? even passing the bill was no guarantee we’d find out what’s in it. we may find it to be a tool used to punish or reward…….

That is just the start!
Next, I’ll hike it to $163 per person!
I say tax the rich, the middle-class and the poor! Ha-ha!
hermie commented:
Of course the fund will be used to pay for other programs created by HHS which were never written into the law but once in place will be called ‘vital’. Any attempt to cancel these progams will be called ‘cruel’, ‘heartless’, ‘evil’ and of course, ‘racist’.
