Detroit Demands Obama Bailout: We Voted For You, Now Give Us Some Bacon (Video)

FOX 2 News Staff reports the following:
DETROIT (WJBK) — The city of Detroit faces a major financial crisis and one member of city council thinks President Barack Obama should step in and help.
City Council member JoAnn Watson said Tuesday the citizens support of Obama in last month’s election was enough reason for the president to bailout the struggling the city. (Click the video player to listen)
“Our people in an overwhelming way supported the re-election of this president and there ought to be a quid pro quo and you ought to exercise leadership on that,” said Watson. “Of course, not just that, but why not?”
Nearly 75 percent of Wayne County voters pulled the lever for Obama in November.
“After the election of Jimmy Carter, the honorable Coleman Alexander Young, he went to Washington, D.C. and came home with some bacon,” said Watson. “That’s what you do.”
Young served as Detroit’s mayor for 20 years and served as vice chairman of the Democratic National Committee from 1977 to 1981.
The White House has expressed no plans to bailout the cash-crunched city that some experts say could run out of money by the end of the year.
The federal government has bailed out cities in the past, however. In 1975, President Gerald Ford extended more than $2 billion in credit to New York City to help it avoid a financial collapse.

In 1975, New York City was filled with people working and paying taxes and there was a real expectation that the money would be repaid (which it was). With Detroit, it’s a city filled with government dependents. No reasonable possibility of ever paying off a bailout. It’s good money chasing bad. The comparison to NYC is almost irrelevant.

It seems the Mayor has the issue in the forefront.
“We are in an environment, I think, of entitlement, we’ve got a lot of people who are city workers, who for years and years, 20, 30 years, think they are entitled to a job and all that comes with it,” Bing said. He added: “Nobody wants to go backwards, but in order for us to move this city forward we’re going to have to take a step or two backwards — and then, I think, all of us have to participate in the pain that’ s upon us right now.”
But the real bombshell may be Bing’s sense of the hardest jobs in the country.
“(My job is) to make the hard decision so this city would have a future, but it’s probably the second most difficult job in this country behind the president,” he said.
As part of managing expectations, he said people have to realize “Detroit’s not going to be what it was,” adding, “We’ve got to look at it differently.””

It appears like he understands somewhat the scope of the problem and what’s needed to fix it. Too bad the council members (at least ONE of them) don’t.

I don’t feel their pain. I do feel that many who are so memorized by Obama mania during the election are receiving their dues. Just can’t stop that loving feeling they have for Obama.

Until the city council decides to actually do something expect lansing and Washington to bail them out (something like honest and open tacking of their budget messes.) Detroit will still be a cesspool and no amount of ‘stimulus’ monies will change that.
There are only a handful of reasons to come to downtown Detroit; the Fox, the Lions, the Tigers and the casinos.
