Small Business Owner on Obamacare: “Every Restaurant You Eat At Is Impacted Negatively By This Law” (Video)

Obama Brings the Pain–
Small business owner Judy Nichols, a Papa John’s franchise owner, told FOX and Friends today that she will be forced to cut her staff or pay an Obamacare fine of $40,000 that she cannot afford. Nichols says,

“Every restaurant you eat at is impacted negatively by this law.”

Look for several more restaurants to close in the coming months.

Obama’s moocher nation could not give a rat’s behind about the problems of the economy and business.

They have their condoms and free abortions and the rest of you can sod off.

  • Adam_ME

And the idiots on the left are reacting in a predictable manner, accusing these business owners of being sore losers. As if they make it a habit of laying off employees and cutting back hours when Democrats win election.

The best part is their threat to boycott these companies. They better be prepared to never eat at any restaurants or buy food from supermarkets between now and January 2017.

  • Daisy

A business owner told my husband 2 1/5 years ago that this would happen. Businesses will drop health care becuase the fine is cheaper, and they’ll keep their businesses under 50 people to avoid the fine altogether.

He also said that some businesses will be able to attract the absolute best workers by giving them private insurance and keeping them out of Obamacare. These will be executive level folks ONLY, even if the company has to break into two parts to do so.

  • Granny

Restaurants have a very small profit margin. According to 2010 figures from the National Restaurant Association, limited-service restaurants had the highest before tax profit of any category of restaurant – about 6% of sales.

These significantly higher insurance costs &/or fines are going to seriously impact that. Expect the prices you pay when you go out to eat to increase significantly and more than a few restaurants to close their doors.

  • bigL

Several Buisness owners have powsted thast there is a paragrph or section that pegs the
number of employees at31, not 50. That is any company with 31 employees …

I have seen many tweets or posts noting such cuts.nit will effect the youth vote. Romney and GOP did a horrible job explaining this.

But we don’t want unhealthy restaurants like pizza places, BBQ shacks, fast food, unhealthy bleached wheat spaghetti joints, etc. Michelle Obama has been very clear on this: We all have to make sacrifices.

Well, it starts now. This is second term and so far you people haven’t done much sacrificing. It’s pretty embarrassing, seeing your fat behinds waddling around the world when Michelle looks so incredible in her slim, $5000 blouses. You put her and Barack to shame.

But you’re going on a diet now, America. No more pizza. Ribs. Burgers. That’s the King’s food (and even he gets told by Mama Queen Michelle when he can and can’t have some). Complaining about 16 oz. sodas? Why do you need soda?

  • Where’s the MF money Jon?

You hear that? She’s obviously threatening to cut wages too. We need a much higher federal minimum wage now and greater worker protections so these employers cannot simply fire people. If they just “let people go” then we’ll have to raise taxes to pay the unemployment. We cannot have that.

  • These restaurants will go to touch screens/self serve formats, then Obama will blame the technology like’s its ATMs fault there aren’t enough banking jobs

This law’s implementation is going to cause a major backlash the Gee Oh Pee needs to be ready to exploit…

  • snap boy

As the price of gas increases, people will be cutting back on dining out anyway…

All those single moms and others who make a living working 35-50 hrs per week waiting tables will now have their hours cut back to part time. They will all have to try to pick up second jobs. So all the restaurants will essentially be sharing the same pool of employees while trying to juggles schedules. The managers of Chili’s, Applebees and Red Lobaster etc might as well sit down together for weekly meetings to do their schedules. What a mess.

    Man, liberals sure are stupid.

  • Bigkahuna

I agree the companies need to put together websites about sharing employees so the workers can still get the hours they need. GOP should offer to raise taxes …just on democrats and make obamacare being eliminated as part of deal and let the left suck on that.

That’s one way of getting rid of illegal aliens.

A law the country didn’t want and upheld by a ridiculous Supreme Court ruling is now beginning to have it’s predicted effect:

Some low-wage employers are moving toward hiring part-time workers instead of full-time ones to mitigate the health-care overhaul’s requirement that large companies provide health insurance for full-time workers or pay a fee.

Several restaurants, hotels and retailers have started or are preparing to limit schedules of hourly workers to below 30 hours a week. That is the threshold at which large employers in 2014 would have to offer workers a minimum level of insurance or pay a penalty starting at $2,000 for each worker.

The shift is one of the first significant steps by employers to avoid requirements under the health-care law, and whether the trend continues hinges on Tuesday’s election results. Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney has pledged to overturn the Affordable Care Act, although he would face obstacles doing so.

That’s really going to help the job situation, isn’t it?

When is government ever going to learn that its intrusion into the private affairs of men always has consequences, and, when they are outside the legitimate function of government in a free society, the effect is usually negative.

Congratulations Democrats, you’ve done it again…

  • Practical Jane

This is all part of Obama’s plan to bring America down. He believes we’re evil. See 2016:Obama’s America (Amazon 3.99) and Dreams From My Real Father (Netflix). We’ve elected a destroyer in chief. Be aware and be prepared. He’s no where near done.

  • JenBee

And it goes on… believe it or not, Taco Bell offers limited benefits to full-time workers, such as vacation time and even a 401K. So now the owner decides he simply cannot afford to give them all healthcare, so he makes every full-time worker a part-time worker. Now look at how many people who had a fairly decent thing going on is affected… no more full-time benefits.

To say nothing of the fact that now this business owner is going to have to have more people on staff, because now everyone is part-time… the cost of hiring and training and managing new workers is significant, and will also cut into profits.

Obamacare’s threshold of 50 employees ENCOURAGES small businesses will remain small. I honestly can’t think of any program/requirement that could have so effectively put the brakes on Capitalism. Good job utterly destroying what made this country great, Dems.

  • Jim

We closed our small restaurant the day after he was elected the first time. Kept telling the employees that all just loved Obozo that voting had repercussions, boy did they find out the hard way!

If history is any judge, that won’t happen. About a decade ago the Lebanon, New Hampshire, area had a great deal of job growth that left them with a negative unemployment rate – far more jobs than bodies to fill them. (My daughters were all working in the area at the time.) Employers in retail and food service all paid big premiums – some nearly 200% of what the same company paid in other areas. People drove in from 100 miles away to work fast food jobs. One thing none of those companies were willing to do, however, was share employees. No matter how many or how few hours their employees worked or how many employees that they had, all of them wanted 24/7/365 availability.

Do you really think that with 5 or 6 or even more warm bodies available to fill every part time job almost anywhere in the country that companies are going to put themselves out to “share” employees?

  • forest

On the bright side, all the people who are struggling to make a living will have to take on two jobs each. That’ll do wonders for Obama’s “job creation” numbers.

  • Fire the illegals first please.

  • Mahdi Al-Dajjal

I’m purposefully not spending any money eating-out and I’m cutting all other expenditures that help this economy. Barack (and the 47%) have told me that ONLY gov’t can stimulate the economy.

Frankly, I refuse to participate in the recovery of Barack’s economy. I’m intent on getting a front row seat on the bus as we go straight over the cliff. Hold on tight!

It’s going to be great watching all the Leftists scream “How can this be happening!” as the bus goes right over the edge. Can’t wait, actually.

  • Bigkahuna

People will take the 2 jobs on their own. It’s a fact of life if they need the money. College kids are going to be hit harder. I see many dropping out as they can’t afford it or will cut back on classes and will take longer to finish. Libs have no clue what they have done to this country…..but they ill soon learn.

  • even steven

My decision on opening a restaurant was contingent on the election outcome. I won’t risk the capital, and I won’t waste my time. I won’t be hiring anyone. I’ll check into getting Social Security disability and food stamps instead. Here I am. Pay me. That seems to be the new American way.

I feel sorry for people who own franchises near college campuses. I expect that our centers of forced conformity will be sites of boycotts, and there may even be vandalism a la Chik Fil-A earlier this year. But Papa John’s will do alright. It’ll just do it with several thousand fewer employees.

Perhaps to compensate, Subprime will use taxpayer money on pizza start-ups. Menus designed by the Mooch. They should last about as long as Solyndra, and with the same result to the federal fisc.

  • bobdog

No, no, no. You guys have it all wrong. It will create jobs. Business owners will replace full time employees with part time employees and “consultants” without benefits. Restaurants in particular will go the part time employee route. It’s not like it’s a skilled profession, and there are plenty of people at the end of their rope that will accept a crappy part time job if they’re hungry enough. It all counts as “job creation”, and it will help expand the Food Stamp program. It’s now one out of seven Americans. Expect one out of six by the time Obama leaves office.

And Democrats will brag about all the jobs they created next election.

  • Art Ewing

Hopefully most of those laid off will be OBAMA voters. Serve the a$$ holes right.

  • Jerry C

My wife’s relatives are mexican. When they ask me again for a job at my company, I’ll tell them we’re not hiring, even if we are. They voted for LUITPOS so let them suffer. Sad that it even comes to that. Can’t even look out for your family members, since they’re part of the problem. And they can’t say I didn’t warn them.

  • been there done that

So my son is looking for work, in Restaurants, because he cannot get a job in his field, and guess what, the small places offer him pay under the table, off the books, because they can’t even afford all the other payments they have to do, like unemployment, social security, medicaire, so forget about Obama-sh!t-care.

You know, this is what Hitler did first, universal Healthcare and gun registration, so he knew exactly where to go, when he started to “clean” Europe.

  • its the left’s and obama’s plan to DESTROY the american economy not to build it. a bad economy is cause for revolution.

  • Calindsey

Papa John’s and others…I see no problem here. You don’t have to cut wages…just lay off all the employees who voted for Obama. This is what they wanted…let them have it! Easy peasy.

Can’t we all comfort ourselves with the thought that now 30 year old college co-eds can get free birth control? And we saved Big Bird from the mean ol’ meany-fae Republicans?

    /Yes, that was sarc.

  • saveus

    tough luck
    obama won
and besides you didn’t build your business, the government did!

  • myohmy

Mitt Romney did an excellent campaign. It just the takers outnumbered the producers. Takers want their free stuff. Any amount of explaining will not get through their thick skull. Why do you think they keep re-electing Jesse Jr. and California has the super-majority democrats? It is all about

  • But Obamacare is FREE.

Oh by the way, my Papa Johns orders went up $2.00, $1 on pizza and $1 for Wings.

So not only am I paying more for my goods, basically paying for someone elses Obamacare, but I still have to go out and get my own insurance, or pay a fine, well, there is also the option to not file taxes.

  • The Conservative wall

Just to continue my thoughts from above…

The poor, the ones that frequent the fast food joints the most, will be paying more for their food, so they are paying an Obamacare tax to get their free Obamacare.

Also, the poor had free healthcare if they wanted it, but most choose not to get the healthcare.

Now they are paying for it, but they are too stupid to realize it, so four more years for Obama.

The whole thing is just silly.

The Obamacare tax at Papa Johns is around 15%. I ended up just buying one size smaller pizza after they raised it.

Mourning in America – Here’s Those Layoffs We Voted For Last Night

A short list of other companies facing future layoffs at the hands of Obamacare:

    Smith & Nephew – 770 layoffs
    Abbott Labs – 700 layoffs
    Covidien – 595 layoffs
    Kinetic Concepts – 427 layoffs
St. Jude Medical – 300 layoffs
    Hill Rom – 200 layoffs

    Darden Restaurants

According to the Orlando Sentinel, Darden Restaurants, a casual dining chain best known for their Red Lobster, Olive Garden and LongHorn Steakhouse restaurants, is “experimenting with limiting the hours of some of its workers to avoid health care requirements under the Affordable Care Act when they take effect in 2014”.

    JANCOA Janitorial Services

The CEO of JANCOA, Mary Miller, testified to Congress that Obamacare was a “dream killer”, adding that one option she had to consider “is reducing the majority of my team members to part-time employment in order to reduce the amount that I will be penalized.”

The American retailer in Cincinnati, Ohio recently was reported to be planning a significant slashing of their hourly workers. Doug Ross writes:

Operative Faith (a mid-level manager with the company) reveals that Kroger will soon join the ranks of Darden Restaurants and slash the hours of its non-exempt (hourly) workers to avoid millions in Obamacare penalties.

According to the source, Obamacare could result in tens of thousands of Kroger employees being limited to working 28 hours per week.

This is by no means, meant to be an exhaustive list. But it is meant to provide examples of real companies, real jobs, and real names, soon to be added to the growing list of employment casualties provided by the inevitable implementation of Obamacare.

Last night, America voted for four more years of President Obama and his destructive economic and health care policies. By extension, America last night voted their approval of the aforementioned layoffs and overall work reduction.

Now we must accept the inevitable. Welcome to mourning in America.

Suck it up lefties….you reap what you sow.

Hello people, are you ready for slave labor? Obama will have your’s and my childen, grand-children, etc., working for the good of the people, with 0 wages for food stamps and free housing. Thank you all you stupid people who voted for this SOB to continue in his dictatorship. America is gone, freedom is gone, and yes, you can live your dammed inmmoral life because you can get free condoms and continue to kill (you mother killers).

  • That’s ironic. When Stalin expropriated, or “collectivized,” agriculture in the U.S.S.R., it ruined the farm and food industry for as long as the Soviet era lasted.

And here is Obama, collectivizing our medical industry, and that threatens to damage the food industry. I guess government collectivization and expropriation is just destructive in general.

First Bush was Hitler, now Obama is. Until someone puts people in camps and executing them for being racially impure, let’s hold off on the name calling. The fallacy of equivocation on these responses are rampant. Most of the comments are fraught with logical fallacies also. Coincidentally, the guy calling himself “logicalUS” commented with several logical flaws.
Last time I checked, we still have elected representatives and no constitutional amendment is being proposed to change that, so again, until that is being brought up, let’s hold off on the “we are no longer going to be a free country” and “Obama is a dictator” speech.
On an unrelated note, I would like to know something. A republican president started the National Park and Wildlife Refuge system. A republican president started the EPA. 20 years ago, republicans were the ones warning about global warming. Now, republicans want to drill in our parks and wildlife refuges, get rid of the EPA, and say global warming is a hoax. I just want to know why the turnaround now?
You only have yourselves to blame for Obama being re-elected. It is the extremist positions that you have let infiltrate the GOP. Barry Goldwater even warned about the dangers of the Christian right having their agenda pushed into the GOP. You have taken extremist positions and pushed away moderates. Did you know that most women don’t take birth control pills to prevent conception, but rather to regulate their cycle to treat conditions such as ovarian cysts and endometriosis?
Roe v Wade was a decision based on small government. The decision was based on the fact that government has no right interfering with the privacy of a woman’s body. They decided that a pregnancy was a private matter. If you were in favor of smaller government, I would suspect that you would be in favor of Roe v Wade. Isn’t making laws banning homosexuals from getting married and having equal rights expanding government? Eventually, those states that ban homosexual marriage in their constitutions will eventually be overturned. Banning gay marriage in the constitution would force the court to overturn every decision banning “separate but equal”.
But back to Obamacare. Many are looking at this with a very myopic lens. They very idea of insurance is that you insure people that don’t need the service to cover those that need it. This is the basis for all insurance, not just health. We also have to keep in mind that hospitals are forced to treat people with or without insurance. One reason for high healthcare costs is people needing care and not having insurance. Obamacare will lower costs for both insurance and medical bills since more people will be insured. It may not happen immediately, but costs will go down. I see many people on here looking at the short term effects and not the long term growth that it will bring.
But if you are complaining that Obama won, you have only yourselves to blame. You need to do a few things to get the election back. 1. get the Christian right and the Tea Party out of the GOP. 2. Overhaul your social positions 3. Get back the principles of conservation of past. Do these things and you will get the moderates. The Republican party right now is too extreme for the majority of Americans. Reagan and neoconservatism is what killed the party.

  • Bill

Also, I think it important to post this here since many are politically charged. I get politically charged and this grounds me. Listening to things like this makes me realize politics don’t even matter. It isn’t political. It is science and looking at things on a universal scale, to look at the universe grounds me. Here is the latest episode (parts 1 and 2)

There’s just one problem with your logic here; it has nothing to do with reality. I haven’t met a server in any restaurant that gets a full 8-9 hour shift. Two of my kids worked as servers both fast food and fine dining restaurants to earn money for college, one also worked as a prep chef in a popular restaurant near Virginia Tech and neither worked more than five hours in a shift ever. They wanted more hours, they just couldn’t get any. BTW, this was over six years ago–had nothing to do with Obama.

  • OBAMACARE will increase outsourcing in Central America. Enacted in July 2010, The U.S. healthcare reform (“Obama Care” or the “Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act”) is intended to pressure large and small employers through force and taxation. The end result will show North American companies deciding to send customer support, sales, lead generation and appointment setting jobs offshore to stay competitive or risk going out of business. Many business owners will hire a dedicated bilingual employee nearshore who is 100% committed to their project. ESL call center employees in Costa Rica are just as or more effective than transitional in-house staff for half of the cost. Finally, giving small to medium sized companies the freedom to scale up their BPO staff without getting caught in the Obamacare challenge in 2014.
