Figures. Cambodian First Lady Gives Obama the Servant Greeting

How does he do it?
Obama embarrasses America again.

Bun Rany, Cambodia’s first lady, gives President Obama a “sampeah” greeting at a tilt usually reserved for servants. (IBD)

The First Lady of Cambodia greeted Barack Obama like he was a towel boy.
And, of course, our clueless president thought it was ‘cool.’
Investor’s Business Daily reported:

So amid all the colorful and flirty photos from President Obama’s first tour of Southeast Asia, what did he actually accomplish? As usual, he served himself politically in what was largely a Potemkin mission abroad.

It was obvious enough from the rubelike gaffes that the president hasn’t been particularly interested or attentive to the affairs of Thailand, Burma or Cambodia as he made his first trip since his re-election. It was pretty much all style over substance…

…On his trip to Cambodia, a country he claimed didn’t deserve a visit due to its strongman government, first lady Bun Rany greeted Obama with a traditional “sampeah” pressed-hands greeting reserved for servants, a little dig that was probably lost on him but not to Asians.

She must be racist.

He’s such an embarrassment to the office of President.

Maybe she has found the best way to deal with the fraudulent piece of trash- just publicly humiliate and mock him at every opportunity. Political correctness is a luxury we can no longer afford. We have been lied to, had our assets stolen and devalued, had the election stolen through massive fraud and we will soon see third world healthcare become our norm. Our children and our moral standards are being perverted at every turn and the foul mouthed mental midgets are being touted as standards to emulate. Our Congress and the courts have abandoned reason and conscience. Respect should only be given when it is earned. Obama deserves no respect- he’s a farud, a cheat and a fake whose ultimate goal is to destroy our republic and our way of life.

You flatter his intelligence by claiming his faux pas were caused by his interest.

  • Whiskeytangofoxtrot

He is not only our own worst enemy, he’s his own worst enemy! After his ham handed pawing of An San Suu Kyi, he couldn’t get a job as an outhouse attendant in her country!

  • They told me that if I voted for Mitt Romney the president would embarrass me overseas, and they were right!

  • JoeThePimpernel

Hussein hasn’t figured out yet that in order to cement their US workers’ paradise his fellow-travelers have to make him a martyr.

  • Sasja

To borrow a phrase from Rush.

Barry and his sycophants are “glittering jewels of colossal ignorance.”

  • BillWhit

Obama is the embarassment, not only to the Office of the President but to America! Never has America had such a Failed, Arrogant, Deceitful, Lying person like Barack Soetoro! Or is his name Obama? No one really knows who this son of a twobit whore is! I pray Psalms 109:9 for this Domestic Enemy of our Great Nation! Over Bengazi, he should be put on Trial for Treason and if found guilty, Executed like the maggot he truly is!

#6 Exactly what I’m afraid of. Remember Rwanda?

  • radioone

Unless John Stewart mentions it, the “Santa Clause crowd” could care less.

  • Steve

I don’t believe the First Lady of Cambodia was trying to humiliate Barack Hussein. (Why would she?) To Western eyes, a greeting with the hands at nose level or higher, looks a little bit absurd. Not very democratic, if you will. And she knew it, no doubt. Compare with Barack’s hands!

  • KansasGirl

    What a schmuck.

  • Blacque Jacques Shellacque

The First Lady of Cambodia greeted Barack Obama like he was a towel boy.

    That’s about what he’s worth.

  • Sasja

Steve the clueless. I’m sure you can figure out for yourself why she would want to humiliate our esteemed leader. This “greeting” was intentional and was played to her people.

  • Adirondack Patriot

She knows a wash room attendant when she sees one.

  • Steve

My dear Sasja 14 – Perhaps you could tell me why Bun Rany would find it advantageous – for her, or for Cambodia – to publicly humiliate the President of the U.S. ?
    (Or perhaps not…)

  • Steve

Your problem (as Americans) is not that people abroad are full of contempt for Barack Hussein. Your problem is rather that they have him as an idol.
    — A minister från the ’Liberal’ party here, went to the Dem’s Charlotte convention: ”The Democrats are like a sister party to us”, she said.
    – Federal debt? ”Eh? Anything wrong there” Unemployment? ”Eh? Worse than here?” Benghazi? ”Yes, the video! 5 million views now!”
    — If you get your information from mainstream media, well, the problems are no problem for you… You’ve never heard of them!

Was Scary Mooochelle Moocher Obama there?

  • jharp

You have got to be kidding me.

Now you’re whining about how Obama responds to someone greeting him?

Get a life. And try offering something constructive. Or you’ll lose again. Even worse.

Can’t wait until the day Hillary announces her run. She will crush your candidate.

  • events

Steve, perhaps the humiliation was aimed less at the office than you seem to think.

  • Sasja

jharp, the only whining I see is yours. You come here and whine about how we respond to his greatness’ lack of class. You won. So why are you still not happy?

  • pink tie Republican

She must have heard Slick’s statement about how Barry should be getting him coffee.

  • jharp

    Sasja,

Got it. Now you’re whining about Obama’s lack of class? Too funny. Obama has more class in his pinky finger than you bozos will ever hope to have in your entire life.

And I could not be happier. And I’m sending my 2 kids to the inauguration. How cool is that?

This election was very special for me. I simply loved the fact that you morons ignored all the polls and were going to wish Romney into winning. And you actually thought you were going to win only to get trounced. Exactly how us lefties predicted.

    Delicious.

Make no mistake, Asians are racist. To be charitable you could say they treat countries and people in a certain sterotypical fashion that could be perceived as racist (but if you spent any time there you know they are in face hard core racists).

Generally they put their own group first, they then tier neighboring Asian countries and European/North Americans/New Zealand-Australia in an order (it varies country to country but typically the more successful countries are higher and the Philippines is down the bottom along). Asians do have prejudices against black Americans over white Americans, but black Americans have more status than say white Russians (the people, not the drink). Americans used to be mixed in relatively high (often the #2 spot, for our allies) given our influence and power. That is definitely changing for the worse. China is rising (but not trusted). Japan is diminishing (but not trusted).

    Below that tier are Russians.

Below that tier are third world countries in Africa, which Asians have nothing but contempt for.

And the bottom are Arab and Muslim countries. No one trusts Arabs or Muslims in Asia. They will do business with them and take their money, but that is about it.

  • timentide

Hilarious, they’re laughing at him while they’re pulling his chain and he has no idea.

  • jharp

“Make no mistake, Asians are racist. (but if you spent any time there you know they are in face hard core racists). ”

I spent over 1 year “there” and you have no idea what you are talking about. None at all.

Just because you are a raging racist doesn’t make Asian people racists.

    #28:

Do your homework. Asians are very nice people. That said they firmly believe in Asian Exceptionalism. People of dark skin are inferior in their eyes. That’s just the way it is.

    BTW:
    Racism is a natural state.

He was so hot to trot to get out of the country to re-affirm himself as President of the World. He left behind the looming fiscal cliff, Sandy victims, Benghazigate, the snake pit of his “Administration” and a country that is suffering and falling apart. I hope he and his minions get insulted all over the world! I was really hoping the Egyptian Pres would insult Hilly.

  • MarkJ

    jharp,

Judging from your posts, it’s heartwarming to know you love your Fuehrer so much. I presume you’ll be placing your kids in the Obama Youth soon? I see bright futures for them as district Party functionaries or minor government bureaucrats.

Just one thing: in the future, please don’t act shocked and hurt when your kids rat you out to State Security for complaining about ObamaCare and that you never got your free goverment pony. Fearless Leader so dislikes ingratitude.

  • Sasja

Jharp will not only have to worry about his children, but also his neighbors, co-workers. He gets on the bad side of just one….

  • shadow

OMG, I guess we’re in for four more years of Obama Derangement Syndrome.

  • Indiana

Obama is so self-involved….he’d probably not even notice if someone spit on him. He’s a legend in his own mind.

  • Brenda

Jharp…you spent an entire year there and you are an expert now are you? Well I spent well over a year there, and you are no where near the expert…in fact, you know nothing…so come on down off that high horse, you aren’t fooling one person here…but you are making quite the fool of yourself! LOL

  • Janet

Asians as a general rule are unimpressed with threats of being called ‘racist’ or ‘bigot.’ They hold Africans in very low esteem and aren’t afraid to show it. They think its hilarious the way we in America are constantly falling all over ourselves to fawn over blacks and genuflect all day because some of us run like scared little girls from that word:racist. Asians are prejudiced against blacks and they couldn’t care less who knows it.

  • Patty

He certainly looks like he is in servant mode. Where the towel over his arm?

  • I have hung out with Khmers (Cambodians) and her samphea is not respectful, if it were, it would be above the nose.

Yes Jarp, Asians are racist against blacks and hispanics. I know someone who did an AIDS project for Cambodian youth, and many of the older people and their peers too, thought it was a “waste of time” as Cambodians can’t get AIDS. As one gentleman put it “That (condoms) is for black and hispanic people. Cambodians can’t get it.”

Pity jarp likes King O, but soon he will lean, and all I will say is: Suck it up, You were warned!

I have no sympathy for him.

  • ricci logan

don’t come down to hard on jarp now you have to consider the source, uneducated on much of anything other than American idol adn whatever other reality program there is . As you can tell from its comments it has no clue as to what goes on in the real world outside of whats on tv……so I say to jarp go ahead and think what you will, we will understand and show pity towards you much like we do others of your ilk…….oh and before you say it sure im racist and proud of it but then again this past election proved the point of the people that supported your president ……….now i salute you as the first lady of Cambodia did obama

  • UpChuck.Liberals

So, she considers Barry to be the house Ni@@r huh? Just wait until Barry’s good bud Putin greets him like he’s dog $hit on his shoe. Barry will be all a tingles.

Greeting People in Cambodia: The traditional Cambodian greeting – known as Som Pas – is made by putting your two hands together (with fingertips near the chin) and a giving a slight bow with your head. The hands are held higher to show more respect to elders and monks. Many Cambodians choose to shake hands with visitors, so the best rule-of-thumb is simply to return whatever greeting that you were given initially. It is considered very rude not to return a greeting.

  • Kat

Respect for Elders: Aside from monks, elders are given the highest level of respect in Cambodia. Always acknowledge an elder’s status by allowing them to control the conversation, walk first, and take the lead. When seated, you should attempt to never sit higher than the eldest person in the room.

  • Kat
  • If Cambodians have an “n-word” I hope they use it frequently to address obama.

  • ken

Wait a minute. Who cares about poor, third world country like Cambodia and its malnourished people. People are making a big deal about Cambodia for what?

If you had taken the time to view the video of the President’s actual interaction with Rany, you would have seen that she performed nothing more than a normal greeting, with a deep bow and hands at the face.

    There was no slight involved.

No diss, and nothing to see here. Move along folks.

  • citationneeded

Being of Cambodian descent and having some familiarity with the culture, I can say with authority that the “sampeah” is not a greeting reserved for servants. It is actually a sign of great respect and deference and used when greeting someone formally. I “sampeah” my parents’ friends and elders in the community. I have also “sampeah”-ed monks. It would be a great sign of disrespect not to “sampeah” someone.
