“Republican” Colin Powell Endorses Barack Obama… Again

Funny. It must be Barack Obama’s conservative policies. Right, Colin?

In August Powell was undecided.

Colin Powell endorsed Barack Obama again for president.
CBS reported:

Former Secretary of State Colin Powell broke with the Republican party during the 2008 election, to endorse then-candidate Barack Obama for president, calling Obama a “transformational figure.”

With 12 days to go before the presidential election, Powell publicly endorsed President Obama for re-election on “CBS This Morning” Thursday

“I voted for him in 2008 and I plan to stick with him in 2012 and I’ll be voting for he and for Vice President Joe Biden next month.”

Powell explained his choice to Charlie Rose and Norah O’Donnell:

When he took over, the country was in very very difficult straits. We were in the one of the worst recessions we had seen in recent times, close to a depression. The fiscal system was collapsing. Wall Street was in chaos, we had 800,000 jobs lost in that first month of the Obama administration and unemployment peaked a few months later at 10 percent. So we were in real trouble. The auto industry was collapsing, the housing was start[ing] to collapse and we were in very difficult straits. And I saw over the next several years, stabilization come back in the financial community, housing is now starting to pick up after four years, it’s starting to pick up. Consumer confidence is rising.”

Gee. What a complete shock.

Just like the piece of paper Holder carries in his wallet (according to J. Christian Adams), black first.

Big flippin’ surprise here, apparently someone ran over Powell’s head several times with a tractor.

  • Jaimo

Yup, sounds like. I would have thought he would come to his senses after 4 years of this. Just the foreign policies debacles alone should have had Powell running as far away from this administration as possible. Maybe he’s looking for another shot at Secretary of State.

    Who’s he?

  • Clafoutis

    It’s a race thing.

    Duh.

  • Joyce

Is he voting for the black half or the white half, sure cannot be for his ability to be president.

  • Chris Light

So, I’ll go ahead and summarize his interview: “Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah…He’s black…Blah, Blah, Blah”

  • race didn’t play apart in this did it. after four of obama’s communist policies he would like to see him finish the job and he was our commander in chief.

  • Robodog7

One would think that Powell, as a former chairman of the Joint Chiefs, would be repulsed by the horriffic handling of Benghazi. It must be a black thing because i don’t understand it.

  • Emilie Green

    Race uber alles,

  • Michael

It’s absolutely amazing that a man who devoted his life’s career to the safety and security of America, would even consider backing a marxist muslim scumbag trying to tear it down both economically and militarily.

Powell got a pass in 2008 when he was duped with almost everyone else to vote for the Messiah.

Do do the same knowing oBama’s 4 year record is disgraceful and despicable.

I guess racial identity does trump common sense.

  • saveus

    who cares?

  • regularguy

When it comes down to it, Powell was an affirmative action General as much as Obama has been an affirmative action President. Depressing results, but not surprising.

  • CatoRenasci

Powell was a political general. Anyone who doesn’t think his support of Obama is about race is naive. Colin Powell is probably not even self-aware enough to realize that his support of Obama is about race.

Things like this set race relations in this country back decades.

  • Amash

Black for black vote. It doesn’t really make a difference. No one cares who Powell votes for.
If you have half of your brain working, you know Eyecandy doesn’t have a clue about this pres. thing. He lies real well, but that’s all he does well.

  • yesmaasser

gawd…this is all we will hear/read from the MSM in the days ahead

The only reason Powell made general is because of his race and that’s the only reason he’s supporting Obama. Oprah is just the same.

  • dwdude

guess he doesn’t want an administration job next year

  • Powell is a close buddy of Louis Farraklown. But don’t mention it, and don’t mention the Jaguar he got from the Saudis and that diamond jewellery for his wife…..

  • Joe College

Powell could have been the first black president (I don’t remember the year he was in contention for that) but he suddenly dropped out of contention for some unknown and inexplicable reason. I think the Democrats know that reason and they can use him when they have to.

And while I’m making wild unsubstantiated accusations, former MA Senator Edward Brooke, a Republican, could have been the first black president in the 70’s except he fell out of contention for some unknown and inexplicable reason. Wiki says “In 2008, Barbara Walters revealed in her memoir Audition that she’d had an affair lasting several years with Brooke during the 1970s,”

  • BarbaraS

Powell’s judgment has never been too great. He was at odds with W’s administration his whole term as SOS. Not only did he actively work against the Iraq war (he fought it every step of the way). He was supposed to get a way to Iraq through the north but failed. I think deliberatly. And he also was in on the Valerie Plame fiasco. He knew Armitage leaked her identity but left the Bush administration hanging in the wind and was indirectly responsible for a good man being punished and his livlihood taken away. I have not considered him a conservative since 2002. He talked the talk but he never walked the walk. I guess now we can consider him a liberal which is what he always was. No doubt obama has promised him something big.

Colin and his wife Anna Powell head up a “non-profit” called Americas Promise Alliance–and my guess is they are pulling down a hefty salary and want to protect it. Most non-profits are the biggest hoax ever perpetrated on the American trait of giving to others–the staff of the non profit are usually the only ones to benefit from the donations.

  • Brenda Hansen

To Michael, your comment turns my stomach. Your ignorance and racism should take away your right to vote. I sure hope you don’t have kids.

  • Sharon

Really? Colin Powell is only voting for President Obama because he is black??? I guess all your votes is because they all were or thought they were white. I say bought they were because no one has done the DNA tests on them. A lot of folks look white but have black blood. Don’t kill yourself if you dare find out. LOL You all need to get off the race thing. Truth be told some people only voted for the sitting President because he’s black but I don’t think Colin Powell is one of them. Some people won’t vote for him because he’s black. I hope you’re not one of them. I hope you vote for or against him because you have tried to become informed and make your choice on truth and not propeganda (did I spell that right?), This is America so you are free to vote for whomever you like and make whatever comments you like. We all are accountable for what we do only.

  • samminusa

Black folks be a funny bunch! I watched a black woman interviewed in Jersey today was cryin’ about gas at $3.85 a gallon and how it had impacted her personaln life. Was gettin’ her gas today for $1.84, same price it was when this Mooslim POS took office. They asked her who she was voting for…go figure…I be votin’ fo’ lil black sambo. I cannot wait to see the presidential library for this clown…My guess is there will be 6 or 7 books in it. “The Lies from My Imagnary Father” … How I F*cked up the Economy in 4 Years”… “How did a Gay Mooslim Like Me Wind Up with a Bufforilla like the Mooch?”… “It’s all George W. Bush’s Fault”…”MOOSLIM, Fort Hood Killings, work place violence,White Guy with a bad of chick-fil-a sandwiches,,,TERRORIST”. These clowns are a joke. For thousands of years they wandered all over Africa barefoot…they trread upon gold and diamonds yet never bothered to pick any up. They watched the winds blow but never dreampt of a sail for a boat. With miles and miles of timber …they never progressed past a mud hut. They would still be living in the stone age had it not been a hand up from the white man. If we knew then, what we know now…we’d a picked our own damn cotton.

  • Tom63010

If Colin Powell was truthful he would have said something like this:

After four years and much introspection I have decided to vote again for Obama because after four difficult years in office he is still black.

  • suzy000

I have no doubt whatsoever that Colin Powell is a racist. He is only endorsing Obama because of the color of his skin. In 2008, I wasn’t sure because no one knew for sure how Obama would govern. No Republican who is comfortable in their own skin would vote for Obama and call themselves a Rebublican. Powell has no principles…what a shame the military failed with him.

  • JoyO

He must read the Liberal newspapers so he hasn’t heard about Benghazi and the FOUR DEAD AMERICANS and the WHITE HOUSE LIES.

  • CT

Colin Powell can no longer claim to neither be Republican nor after this endorsement be considered relevant.

  • Dave616

Colin Powell – is about as Republican as Oprah !!!

He is a hack – just think if how better off today Iraq – the US and the World for that matter would be – if this tool – allowed Bush1 to finish off Sadam – like we should have done – when we had the – So called Coalition of the willing!!!!

One more thing….. is anyone on this site really surprised by this endorsement? Colin is about as popular within the military circle as OJ is with Nicole Simpson’s parents.

Who really gives as flip what/who/ Powell is supporting Go Romney/Ryan

I blame Colin Powell for effectively nullifying total victory in the First Gulf War when he personally thwarted Stormin’ Norman’s advance to Baghdad which in effect left Saddam in power for the next eleven years and necessitated a Second Gulf War. Colin is one of the most overrated military men in recent American history.

  • VicioMalo

Just out of curiosity…do you take the name from the air strikes over Viet Nam or the Indian chief that brought in the Rolling Thunder at Fort Hood when his son was drafted into the military? I read the book when I was in basic training at Fort Ord.

It’s a shame we even pay any attantion to this or post comments on something so predictable …Guess what Mr Bowell…your Obama vote comes a NO SURPRISE….and this is exaclty what Powell wants….to make racism the closing arguement …..He wants the historical narrative of ” the first black President ” to trump ALL….It trumps any other issue, party loyalty, principles, economic prosperity. It even trumps national security and the lives of men and women once under his command…..

Powell wants to provoke all those people who complain about the racial bias of affirmative action policies and bring all the white guilt trip voters back to Obama…..I can understand people quietly voting along ethnic pride….but the way Colin Powel is acting here is showing he is a real low life RACE BAITER . He borders on that Louisiana woman who just set herself on fire to claim a hate crime.

  • dave

Reality check: Colin Powell is Black. So he sold out his party & political philosophies & went with his personal, cultural loyalties. No one said it last time, so I’m saying it now. And no, it’s not a racist comment –haven’t you noticed the overwhelming Black support for Obama (which I don’t understand considering they are far worse off today, notwithstanding Obamaphones & 47 million people, many of whom are minorities,on food stamps) & his change of speech response to his audience? It’s OK for him to use race, but we can’t say it as we see?

Cui bono? Powell is a “strategic advisor” to Kleiner Perkins, perhaps the most politically connected venture capital firm (Powell and Gore are on the payroll) to the administration. They need Obama to win again for the tax/subsidy benefits their firm receives. With billions of dollars at stake, I doubt race has much to do with it. Rather, it’s a 21st century analog to Eisenhower’s concerns about the military-industrial complex.

  • Obamalony

In short, it seems President Obama has been engaged in gun-walking on a massive scale. The effect has been to equip America’s enemies to wage jihad not only against regimes it once claimed were our friends, but inevitably against us and our allies, as well. That would explain his administration’s desperate, and now-failing, bid to mislead the voters through the serial deflections of Benghazigate.

Is anyone really surprised by Colin Powell’s re-endorsement of Barack Obama? CBS asked the question during This Morning, and Powell almost seems reluctant to spit the words out, but it’s not much of a shocker:
    VIDEO

I’m not surprised by Powell’s choice, although I’m a little mystified at his reasoning, especially on economic grounds. This is, after all, the worst economic “recovery” since World War II, and it’s getting worse each year rather than better. Powell says he’s still a Republican, but I suspect that he’s rather bitter about what happened in the march to war in Iraq, especially as it relates to him, and still holds a major grudge against Republican leadership. I’m certainly not going to personally belittle a man who has served this nation almost his entire adult life until his well-deserved retirement over his political preferences in an election. I just think he’s very, very wrong, and demonstrably so.

Powell, what do you think of this:

2 US troops die in apparent Afghan insider attack

KABUL, Afghanistan — A man in an Afghan police uniform shot and killed two American service members Thursday, the US military said, in what appeared to be the latest in a rash of attacks on international forces this year by their Afghan partners.

It was not immediately clear if the attacker was an Afghan police officer or an insurgent who had donned the disguise to get close to the American troops, said Maj. Lori Hodge, a spokeswoman for US forces in Afghanistan.

The assailant killed the service members in the southern Uruzgan province in the late morning, she added. A statement from the US force in Afghanistan says the attack is being investigated.

Provincial government spokesman Abdullah Himmat said the assault happened near an Afghan police compound in Khas Uruzgan district.

Before Thursday’s assault, 53 international troops had been killed in insider attacks from Afghan soldiers or police so far this year, according to the NATO military coalition.

To date, more than 2,000 US troops have been killed in Afghanistan since the start of the war.[……………..]

    Ditto!

Powell’s part of the 1%/”Millionaire-Billionaire” club, and good on him. He got that “on [his] own;” no one “helped [him] with that.” I’m glad no one stepped in and told him that “at a certain point you’ve made enough money.” However, when 1%ers are Lefti$t, there is no stigma to being wealthy. Ironically, he can afford another Obama presidency because he’s is a 1%er. He speaks for himself when he talks about “consumer confidence rising.”

The only good thing I can say about this man is that he was a great warrior for the US, and I thank him for that.

  • Get lost, Colin. You’re no more a Republican than I’m ET.

  • Freddy

Powell: “We were in the one of the worst recessions we had seen in recent times, close to a depression.”

    – – A depression is not a one off event. It is a series of economic mistakes over a period of time. We had a recession in 2008 that ended in mid 2009. It has been the Obama policies that have failed to allow a recovery. In fact, it is exactly the Obama economic policies that are leading the country into a depression. Instead of reading about FDR, Obama should have looked at the failed government interference, and spending policies, of Herbert Hoover.

Powell: “The fiscal system was collapsing.”

    – – actually no, that issue ended before Obama took office in January. The TARP giveaway program had already bailed out the major banks. Obama used the second half of TARP to take care of his doner base, like the UAW.

Powell: “the housing was start[ing] to collapse and we were in very difficult straits.”

    – – actually the housing industry was collapsing in 2007 and 2008. By the time Obama took office, it was already at a bottom.

IS Powell senile or is he simply changing facts to support his candidate?

Brenda, back out quietly. Try not to attract their attention. Whatever you do, don’t look them in the eye. Fortunately, they’re none too bright so you should be OK. Good luck.

    Colin who?

  • Campfollower

I never thought this about Powell before, but possibly he rose to power based on racial quotas in the Army. He he could not be so dense to endorse the guy who calls Navy corpsmen…corpse men and propsed that combat vets pay for their own healthcare.

A past great admirer of Powell’s, I also can’t help thinking, “Who cares who he endorses?”

Is this man so far removed from his former office that he doesn’t hear how awful the Obama administration’s rules of engagement are? Does he see the body count of young Americans losing their lives overseas? The lack of focus from Obama on the war? The strategic non-engagement of Obama is disheartening and alarming to miitary families everywhere. But Powell made his big bucks and is enjoying retirement. He and Carter should get together.

Skin color over character…..right Powell? Powell just ended his career on a really bad note.

  • burt

He wants to be the next Secretary of State so he can take the fall for Obama, just like Hillary.

  • Viv

There is only one reason Powell is voting for Obama…….color. Powell’s vote is a racist vote.

We sure had a lot crawl out on this thread and can’t remember this many comments about race.

Collin Powell is a dishonorable man. I have been saying it before he announced his vote for Obama in 2008. I could care less if he is voting race or not.

I think he is another Obama in the sense that he has to blame someone. Remember he went to the UN and then tried to say it was someone else’s fault.

He then allowed Bush to be stalked by something created in his agency and he kept his mouth shut and allowed it. Shameless. I cheered when he quit because I think he knew he was being replaced.

Collin Powell is knee deep in what happened in Iraq. His position in the first one helped create the next one. Now he supports Obama who made sure we threw Iraq away.

Collin Powell is a lowlife form. A true back-stabber. Blamer. Racist? I dunno because it is really not even necessary on the list. Other thing he has in common with Obama? I think he likes petty revenge. Used to admire this man and then I really watched him. Petty. That word remind you of anyone? Yep. I’m glad he is being true to himself.

Who cares what Colin Powellestinian thinks.

  • aprilnovember811

His endorsement only suceeds in making him look pathetic. Is he mentally ok? If he is, he lacks good judgement.

  • Truth Teller

I think we have all seen the depth of black racism over this past 4 years.

Any white person that supports Obama must be prepared to answer to their children why they hate themselves and their children so much.

    It’s a sickness…

  • Wayne

    Powell is a racist.

  • Jackson

    Skin color?

  • Jack

Colon Powell, total sell-out, totally irrelevant.

  • Whipley

It’s obvious from these comments that you commenters are racists. Kinda funny that you think any support for the President is only due to his being part black. What do you call a racist who accuses others of racism? I call him a hypocrite.

  • John Thane

Ok since a man who happens to be black endorses President Obama ’cause he’s black, then by the same argument all you who despise him are therefore racist ’cause he’s black. Or maybe you’re just hypocrites. But my money is on both.

  • Kevin

I agree with Brenda. all you have to do is look at the facts. alot more would have been done had the republicans backed him but they didnt. its the republicans you should be looking at not obama. and if you voted for those republicans youre just as responsible

  • He’s Not A Republican

Colin Powell is the former leader of the Million Man March. He and Obama are Brothers
