To the trash heap of history…

Newsweek announced today that they will scrap its print edition and go all digital.
The Daily Beast reported:

We are announcing this morning an important development at Newsweek and The Daily Beast. Newsweek will transition to an all-digital format in early 2013. As part of this transition, the last print edition in the United States will be our Dec. 31 issue.

Meanwhile, Newsweek will expand its rapidly growing tablet and online presence, as well as its successful global partnerships and events business.

Newsweek Global, as the all-digital publication will be named, will be a single, worldwide edition targeted for a highly mobile, opinion-leading audience who want to learn about world events in a sophisticated context. Newsweek Global will be supported by paid subscription and will be available through e-readers for both tablet and the Web, with select content available on The Daily Beast.

Four years ago we launched The Daily Beast. Two years later, we merged our business with the iconic Newsweek magazine—which The Washington Post Company had sold to Dr. Sidney Harman. Since the merger, both The Daily Beast and Newsweek have continued to post and publish distinctive journalism and have demonstrated explosive online growth in the process. The Daily Beast now attracts more than 15 million unique visitors a month, a 70 percent increase in the past year alone—a healthy portion of this traffic generated each week by Newsweek’s strong original journalism.

It looks like their conservative-bashing, America-bashing, misogynist business plan did not work out so well, huh?

  1. Now they’ll be able to edit their content (when caught in a lie) without generating a paper trail.

  2. Once upon a time Newsweek was a highly respected weekly magazine. Then, it was taken over by the Liberals. It started dying when it no longer printed the truth.

  3. Now THIS is how you respond to objectionable thought, opinion and behavior.

You don’t riot. You don’t burn books. You don’t pass un-constitutional legislation.

You (we) stop spending hard-earned $$$ on the crap.

Americans are waking up…slowly, but surely.

  4. Now if we can get rid of Time magazine, then I can enjoy the checkout line at the supermarket a bit more.

  5. Don’t worry. The internet will take up any Conservative-bashing slack that appears.

  6. Good…won’t have to look at this piece of trash on news stands any more!!!!

  7. Anything run by socialists die.

  8. ANOTHER excellent Crossroads ad, “Mr. President, what did you know, and when did you know it?”:

  9. We use it to wipe with.

  10. Though the New York Times is softer and easier on our septic

  11. …yes, butt then there’s all that INK to deal with. The shiny Newsweek paper was better-ish.

  12. Digital, no print and yet I still won’t read it.

  13. This move has been in the cards since Harman took Newsweek and its liabilities off the Washington Post’s hands.

Say what you want about Newsweek/Daily Beast’s bias, they were the first MSM operation to do a thorough hit piece on our current President. And coming from a decidedly liberal publication, it had a tremendous impact on the rest of the media — the most important of which was they could get away with it.

This White House has used a divide and conquer philosophy against the media led by Obama’s close advisor, Valerie Jarrett. She makes phone calls to reporters and their editors when they challenge the President. Newsweek has broken the mold. But there is a lot more to do.

  14. Newsweek definitely put out two decidedly anti-Obama covers recently:

One said “hit the road, Barack-why we need a new President” was in August of 2012
    http://the-american-catholic.com/2012/08/20/man-bites-dog-newsweek-runs-an-anti-obama-story/

Another from May 21, 2012 cover calling Obama the first gay president

  15. Darn…no more bird cage liner!

  16. One to and more to come!

Could things be turning around, hope so.
